Thread: Concerned Combat Rebalance?

Jawa Joey. I think you misread AhJahFrolio. He wasnt saying that a master pistoleer should be able to beat a master BH OR Master Smuggler OR a Master TKA. He was saying this COMBINATION of those three professions should be able to go toe-to-toe with a master BH and win.

Very interesting folks.

Lots of interesting stuff folks

The skill points thing is actually pretty critical - have the Dev's ever defined what they mean by balance?

As a former BH I'd be inclined to say they get short changed on the skill points they spend - by the same token a BH shouldn't be better with a pistol than a pistoleer. this is what I menat by the balancing act - not how it was coded by how you actually decide what different profs get for their SP.

PS

I have somehting further to add - I was in the DW bunker last night and frankly it sucked.

Not the design, not the idea but the way the mobs were implemented.

Simply put there is no way that a humnoid mob should have the HAM of a Krayt Dragon

The Thunderheart quote that people are referring to when they talk about nerfing in the CB is this one:

/agree

I definitely think that one of the most important big changes is the Combat Balance. Things like the items you've listed here are definitely what would be covered in the CB and are critical. In the past few days, we've been talking about different ways we can break it out and accomplish our goals as fast as possible.

The thing about the combat balance is that it covers so many of these types of issues. As individual elements, they aren’t so large, but in the scope of the combat picture in the game there are a lot of little pieces. If the CB is implemented all at once, it will seem like a gameplay change. If we do it in pieces, it will seem like a series of nerfs.

Im pushing and hoping for a more creative solution where we can create a sandbox for players to try out the combat changes and push them out in one fell swoop.

Just to showing the context. He also says that he considers the CB to be very important.

I'd love to know why the heck they won't let us know at ALL what they are doing. Giving us some examples will help us think about what's coming up instead of arguing about everything.

Personally, as 99% non-pvp, I like Master Pistoleer. Sure the specials don't work, I couldn't hold my own at either the DW Bunker or the Corvette, or against NightSisters, but aside from all that, I survive. I don't get killed just walking around. I can kill anything that's in any place I go day-to-day. So I'm somewhat happy. What I don't like is that pistols are fast enough butare so weak, and that I'm a MASTER and there are pistols I'm not allowed to use. Also, the HAM usage should be almost non-existant on a pistol. It's not that strenuous to use your finger that much. I hate when I'm fanshotting 5 or 6 enemies and I look at my HAM and I'm all out of green before I realize it. Especially with my DX2.

And this is sort of a petty one, but that there aren't enough pistols out there. I wouldn't care if there were pistols with identical stats that ONLY looked different, add more pistols to the game. Pistols have gotta be the most common firearms in Star Wars, so it should seem like it. But add more weapons in general anyway. I know there are a few rifles shown in the movies that are definetly now in the game.

Once they put a totally new HAM bar up to TC and had it working like the 'specials' bar, draining when you did specials but not taking your HAM away...
I don't say yea or nay to the idea, just that it's a gigantic fundamental change in playstyle, and they did it without prior notice.
I see the upcoming balance as being a little bandaid, or a great big mother-nerf of tons of stuff. Either way, I'm more worried about the bugs that will creep in than the actual philosophy of change.

I believe they're still going to implement this after the CB has been done (or might indeed be part of the CB). And you're right, you've every right to be feeling trepidations overthe CB, as it's success or failure really will decide whether combat in SWG remains messed up or fixed. I unfortunately can't see there being much of a grey are between success and failure, as if they get it right, all elite professions will be of equal worth with different roles, where as if they get it wrong, we're still going to see the FotM combo that defeats next to everyone.

Only thing we can do is hope the Devs get it right and help out all we can when they need our help testing.

Katana_Blade your right in what you say about my post. I definately believe what your saying is correct. And I think that a Master Bounty Hunter Vs. Master Smuggler, Teras Kasi Master, and Master Pistoleer should always be like a 50/50 fight. I think tactics and situations should play a huge part in this no one will win regardless or another will win by spamming one specific shot over and over again. Another thing that should be a factor is equipment and perhaps some tricks to play by either side. We know that Smugglers and BHs can be very tricky and downright nasty if it comes down to it. I hate to bring it up, but think of Jango in the space battle with Obi Wan or Boba when he attached to garbage to track Han, Chewie, and Leia in ESB. On the flip side look at Talon Karde and Han Solo and their constant ability in beating the odds and coming out on top. I think there needs to be more to it than just professions and skill points.

Now I do think standing or running 10-20 meters away from one another Master Pistoleer Vs. Master Bounty Hunter using pistols only a Master Pistoleer should win in pure combat with the pistol, and the same goes with Carbineer Vs. Master Bounty Hunter. I think there needs to be other variables and situations where the MBH can win, but not in open combat against these 2 professions using their respective weapons. I have no idea, but maybe by implementing a trap, using a carbine vs. Pistoleer or LLC they can increase their abilities ten fold and achieve victory, but not by using a pistol only or carbineer only.

Nice idea Tulkas and I like your last post.

As a former Master Pistoleer and now almost Master Bounty Hunter it's a tough issue. Both sides have a point but I like the last posts idea about a trap. Bounty hunter's are supposed to be dangerous and tricky scum. If I go toe to toe with a Master Pistoleer I wouldn't mind losing as long as I had a sneaky chance to get the upper hand like a trap or something to distract my opponent. To me that is what BH is more about than just spamming who has the better specials.

Well as of now i realize how freaking bad balance in this game is

Master Pistoleer = non elite profession

Went hunting with a wookie tonight, he is a fencer, i am a master ch and pistoleer.....so we hunted black sun. Cool i thought..until I see this.. MEDIUM armor...what was i good for?

Having my pets because cannon fodder.

/begin rant

Why? Well are their actually any pistols with ap2? Or all we all stuck hunting corsec troppers the rest of the game.
How come we as masters cant use all pistols?
How come our health bleed...or as i call it, sticking a thumbtack into the npc, so freaking weak?

I am done with this game in 2 weeks until the combat crap comes in.

/end rant

Strike entertainer from the list of working professions as well here. Half the time our buffs don't take, dancers still have dances that haven't worked since launch, none of our highest level dances have anywhere near the number of flourishes they're supposed to, and we can't make a living because of AFKers and buffbots.

As a master dancer/entertainer/pistoleer, I think I'm qualified to say that I am a triple master of some of the most broken professions in the game.

Oh, and to add to the list of things the devs should be looking at in the combat balance, don't forget MOBs. Once we've been 'rebalanced', they'll have to take a look at the relative levels of all the beasties in PvE to make sure everything still works there. If everyone came down to Pistoleer levels, say goodbye to the DWB and Corvette, because it's likely that no one could handle those levels of dungeon.
