Hello All:

Just a quick question on terminology. Combat Balance vs. Combat Revamp. I got it in my head that Combat Revamp is the sweeping overhaul of the combat system that is to come after JtL and the Combat Balance is something that is going to be applied before JtL to keep me from cancelling my subcription.

What I'd like to know is, is there a CB and a CR? Am I right about there placement on either side of JtL? Was the summit for the soon to be made changes or the far off no definite date, after JtL changes.

Any light that can be shed on this would be appreciated.

There is a difference, but nobody seems to be keeping it straight. Maybe it keeps on changing. I'm calling it a Revamp here because what we went over at the Summit was pretty darn Revamp-ish. Take it with a grain of salt, because truth be told I have no idea anymore. I get the idea something changed in the plan and they forgot to update us.

They are calling it the Combat Balance Summit, so I'll change the title. We went over everything though, as near as I can tell.

So does this mean the small changes we were to get prior to revamp are now not going to happen?Any word on love for pistoleer pre-revamp?

I would assume Randonb, that what we discussed at FanFest, ie Pistoleers being in closemobile combat, carbineers being crowd control and rifleman being the long range killers, made it into these discussions? I brought up weapons classes, ex. heavy pistols and the like, in the ranged combat forum at FF, and it was said that this was a direction they wanted to go in.

I definately want each class to have a role. I've been a Pistoleer for most of my time in SWG, but have dropped back to novice because it has been described by to many people as weak and redundant in regards to rifleman. I have novice rifleman and I have 2 less accuracy than pistol in rifle, but +1 more in speed, and this is with a mod of +3 to pistol speed due to CorSec gloves!!

I hope pistoleer is finally given a role that we can enjoy. I want to be the mobile run and gun type with pistols, but I can also now be a run and gun type with rifleman, but do twice as much damage, with more speed and higher AP.

Randonb, glad to have you back. I'm looking forward to the Cb and can't wait to get in the Sandbox server (I'm going as one of the smugglers) and really test this thing.

Randonb,

Thanks for the update. I really didn't expect much info to be released from the summit. As for the Pistoleer profession and the CR, this profession can only improve with the CR seeing how weak and ineffective it is by itself in it's current state. I'm thinking those that will be changing professions will be those in uber professions that are no longer uber, most career pistoleers won't be going anywhere.

Cheers

I tell you there is no finer correspondent I have seen. Always positive, supportive, and technical. The way he glances by my loving but sardonic/sarcastic posts about the gimpedness of the pistoleer profession shows how focused this guy is toward a great pistoleer profession.

This sounds promising. I hope it is because pistoleer has become weak to me.

Well welcome back, now if only I could get you to start reffering to it as the Combat Balance and not Revamp.

I have a question for you. And I am not posting this to be negative, I just want to know...

we all know the combat balance is supposed to be a huge change. we have been told that for a LONG time now. I understand that the devs have a grand sweeping plan to get it all in. but...How reasonable do YOU see their changes to be? by that I mean, do you think they can actually pull it off? how far along are they in developing this revamp? is it basically the idea stage, implement later, or have they started to actually code some changes?

I know your first response will probably be what the devs told you. and I have a good idea what that is...

"well, we are focused on JTL right now, as soon as that is live, we can dedicate more of the team to working on this"

do you believ they can pull this off correctly? my subscription isnt hanging on your answer, but I would like some honesty. The fact is, I have been around since week one. I have heard the combat balance/revamp thrown about since darn near last christmas.

I know the devs are enthusiastic about this revamp, so they will talk it up a great deal, especially in a meeting like you had, with all the correspondents. but are they getting in over their heads?
