As I have learned in my short time in WoW, PvP and 1v1 duels are NOT the same. If you really wanna PvP, lose the /duel button and find the /pvp button. Arguing about how well you do against this class, or that class, in a 1on1 is useless. There will be certain classes that you have an easier time with, and classes that you have a tough time with.
In SW:G, where there's no set class, just a bunch of profs that you can use to customize your own class, you and you alone are responsible for designing your own strengths and weaknesses. If you don't like the Pistoleer's weaker offense, no one's holding you back from taking up Swordsman or Carbineer. If you are unsatisfied with Pistoleer's low offense, and only want to be a Pistoleer/Doc or Pistoleer/Dancer, or Pistoleer/Shipwright because that's what you think your character should be, and still want Pistoleer's offense buffed, get over it.
SOE isn't limiting or nerfing any profession. You, and only you decide what your toon's strengths are going to be. Stop epecting each profession to be individually self-sufficient. That works in a game where you get only one class to pick from. It does NOT work in a game where you can mix and match your professions to create your own class. Instead of expecting SOE to do all the work for you, decide how you want your character to play out, do some soul-searching, make some hard choices, and do what you need to to get what you want from this game.

I think its funny that you can read through the forums and see different trends in CU like/dislike by the various professions. Generally, pistoleers like it, TKM hate it, swords and rifles don't know or hate it, Carbs and Pikes have a purpose finally, etc.
I played it and have detailed notes on all profs, and I like it.
As for roles in combat, not only are MMORPGs set up that way...COMBAT is set up that way, boys.

Yes, absolutely right - I love the concept and what I have seen so far, and it fits very well with my playstyle which has been very successful in PVP and I think will be even more successful afterwards!
(Unlike that whiner who thinks that state effects are not important and just wants to talk about power output!)

yes, I also love the CC role. I was giddy when I learned the killer CC power I would get from my 2 favorite profs, smuggler and pistoleer. I think what alot of folks are not realising about CC is that in a PvP situation CC BECOMES defence. Kind of hard to get ganked when you can literally stop the person in their tracks. I can't wait!

It will take some getting used to, but in the end...it will be good. Look at TKA...they KD you and then smash away at you...now we can KD and shoot the shiz out of them.

I really hope this is the case, I'm really fearing our profession will be the "Hey Riflemen and swordsmen! I got the enemy distracted and under control now finish him while I hang on the side and watch."

I'd really hate to see that as well.

I had a play with all of our PIstoleer specials on TC when you could use all specials... Fan Shot is a smaller cone it seems and does stun, then you have intimidate shot that didnt seem to have a cone...
I can't quite see where "crowd control" comes in... in my eyes that would need 32m area state effect hits... or at least cone shots of all our specials.
Disarm shot seemed to be a single hit special too... although nice.
I was sticking intimidate shot, then stun with fan and use stopping shot to root and kite and spamming body shot... but I wasn't controlling any crowd of mobs... more aggroing a load with Fan shot that I had to target individually one afetr the other to kill.
Saying that, maybe when you get the Advanced specials they all cone/area, I couldn't test that with Pistols 4.
I also had a play other profesisons specials, Torso Shot (highest damage pistol special it seemed at the time), confusion shot (dizzy and stun) and some smuggler ones... all looked interesting.
I'm up to Novice PIstoleer on TC-5 now and awaiting the elite trainers... I'll be testing:
Master PIstoleer
4/4/0/0 CM
2/4/0/0 Doc
And the rest in BE to see what can be crafted. So far the CU seems great and I cant wait to see how Master PIstoleer handles high end stuff... very happy with the Intimidate and Stun so far.

Dont think of it as one pistoleer controlling 20 enemies cause I doubt it will be that. BUt it is more like the riot police, with a squad or team of people working. Imagine a team of 10-15 pistoleers working together to take out a large mob of players. Will be pretty cool. Add in the "master" of 1 on 1, BH, and I really like the looks of the CU.

Well, no... I'd be a tad underwhelmed it if that were the case.
As I said, I'm hoping that the Advanced forms of all our specials are cone or area, then "Crowd Control" would really work.
For example, in PvP... you get two melee players running towards you, you open up with Advanced Stopping shot and they are rooted, then you hit Improved Fan Shot and Improved Burst shot for Stun, Initimidate Shot them both and start laying into them with Improved Body Shot or Advanced Quick Draw.
If anyone gets close to you then you can hit Advanced Firearm Stirke and Improved Disarming Shot, then go back to Advanced Stopping Shot and start all over again.
For ranged players, you can Root them, Disarm themand wade in with AFS (coining terms already :smileytongue
then blast away.
