Pistoleer Archive
Thread: Hello Pistoleers!
I was an almost master Pistoleer and I had all the BH pistol skills except the 4th one (the one with Torso Shot) in the Beta. And I have a few things to say ![]()
First off, Pistol Melee Defense 2 sucked. Maybe it's just me but I don't know why it was even mentioned. It didn't have knockdown that Pistol Melee Defense 1 (Pistol Whip) had and it did maybe 200 more damage.. but in exchange you get the crap kicked out of you, including wounds. Melee Defense 1 was definately cheap and efficient. Pistol whip is a really nice move.
I'd like to devote this little section to Pistol Whip. I mean.. it's not every day that you have a skill that you can knockdown ATSTs, Kimogilias and probably even Krayts by smacking them with your pistol. The fact that it costs almost nothing to use and that you can spam it quicker than anything made it my most used PVE move. BTW, It does more damage than any Body Shot move, however, Body shot is focused.. pistol whip is not. In a group you will definately want to use Body Shot 2/3 unless you're the only pistoleer there with Melee Defense 1 or the only one smart enough to use it. Trust me, when that Mantigrue Screecher is 3-hitting everyone on Endor.. they will love you when you keep it continually knocked down and not giving it a chance to get up at all.. while still cranking out 450+ damage.
I loved the Pistoleer tree in the Beta. I still love it right now. I am pretty sure I am going the Carbineer class, pistoleer was my first true class that I played. I was Pistoleer twice in the beta on Bria. But onto what I can say about BH skills..
Bleeding shot. Ok.. I'll just say this. Excluding testing it out when I got it.. I never used it. Yeah.. wasn't that great. But the Scatter Gun that you get from being a BH is AWESOME. It's truly amazing. Mine did 76 - 109. 2.9 speed. It's range abilities were 0/39/0 with 0.0 Ideal range. Obviously.. for a shotgun Pistol.. this thing is bugged. But it was amazing ![]()
Eye shot. PVE.. Don't really plan on using it. In a hunting group you will use Body Shot 3 or PMD1 unless you happen to be apart of a riflemen group. PVP.. well.. I know I used this skill a LOT. I did 450 mind damage regularly with my scatter gun. I guess the gun was bugged.. combined with the fact that I was an almost master Pistoleer I never missed at all. Even from 64m. Eye shot was pretty fast. And if you pump out 450 mind damage that quickly in PVP.. it's pretty good. Sure.. it's not sniper shot at all. But.. Think about it. You have what a rifleman can do combined with TKA knockdown abilities (PMD1) and the fact that pistols are perfectly accurate at any range. I'd like to think of that as nice.. it's basically the jack of all trades right there.
Eye shot was a really nice skill in PVP. Most fighters have low mind.. so Eye Shot drops them in (usually.. could be less) 2 shots. Also, it was pretty funny using Eye Shot and leaving the people incapacitated. Medic and Doctors cannot heal mind damage like they can Health/Action. The most damage you will take in PVP will be to your health, then your action. Mind damage was rarely done in PVP that I noticed. I played in the Bestine/Ancorhead area on Bria and I was only incapped by mind damage twice. 99% of the damage was done to my health (body shots, most likely).
I didn't get to test Torso Shot.. but I don't expect it to be really good. Maybe a beefed up version of Body Shot 3. Fast Blast.. well.. I saw a few master BHs and they weren't using that skill. Also, stopping shot > Body shot 3 from what I could tell.
This is the things I have experienced in the beta that I would like to share. Obviously, the pistol isway too accurate at long range. I don't know how long it will stay that way.. but it is. Personally, I see this as more power to Pistoleers, of course. But nothing is more cheap that shooting a Rifleman with eye shot and killing him because he kept missing and you did not (especially with a shotgun pistol). Just my thoughts.. I hope they mean something for someone.
I am currently working to become a pistoleer(I have the expert pistol skill from the marksman tree) and I was wondering. Does the tumble to ____ skills from the ranged support skills do anything for you, like giving accuracy bonuses or something of that nature?

Hey to everyone out there. I was planning on going Master Squad Leader and then some of the Pistoleer and BH pistol skills so I could be at least useful if the situation did not call for my Squad Leader abilities. As it is turning out in game, I will be a Novice Pistoleer LONG before I become a Squad Leader. What I want to know is: Is it worth all the extra skill points to get into the BH skill tree for just the BH pistol skills, or should I concentrate more on becominga Master Pistoleer and forgetting about BH altogether. Lemme get some opinions, thanks people.

I'm loving the Pistoleer path, I had full intentions on becomming a commando, but with the fun im having from pistoleer, I think im gonna explore this and see what its like at the top.
Actually there were Master Pistoleers in beta from what I've heard. I played beta throughout phase 3.
What you have to keep in mind is that they want this game to continue being a "growing" experience for most players for at least a year. Take other online games like Evercrack where it takes power gamers a good 3 months to raise from level 50 to level 60. And from level 0 to level 60 it takes them a good 6 months at least. The average gamer takesa lot longer than that. But it keeps that game interesting...gives youa goal to shoot for. If everyone became Masters at their desired professions in 2 months (SWG) then what would keep you playing for another year or more before the space expansion comes out?
Raising your character's stats and gaining new abilities is the addiction gained playing any RPG. But there isn't a single well-planned RPG that allows characters to legally raise to their limits within weeks, especially when those RPGs have monthly subscription plans attached to them.

I was two skills away from Master Pistoleer with 3 of the BH skills on top of that. Right now you wouldn't believe that because group xp was changed.
In the beta it easier than ever to gain Exp. You go out on a hunting group and find a dewback. Instant 1.5k for everyone. Banthas.. 1k for everyone. You'd maybe kill 4 or 5 dewbacks so you'd get a good 7k xp from that encounter. Then if you destroy the lair, add another 3k onto that. From just discovering a dewback nest with 20 people, you just gained 10k.
Of course group xp was toned down and so was lair xp. And now killing a creature is all about who does the most damage in order to get xp. So now xp is much harder to get and soloing is much too slow.
Oh yeah, and I don't want to even talk about Endor or Lok. Endor.. you find a pack of monsters and end up with around 20k xp after everything is done. And for Lok. Well.. let's just say that I once gained over 650k in a 5 hour Lok hunt. Kimogilias gave around 4k - 4.1k and with warning shot they ran away in fear or just turn around in fear. It was really easy to keep a Kimo from hitting someone with warning shot or atleast keep them front constantly hitting people. Then they fixed that.
Basically, it was much easier to get XP before than it is now. Most people would agree that it was a little too easy to get xp. 650k in 5 hours.. if you could do that now, how far would you be? Pretty far.
I feel so proud! I finally got my 70k XP for pistol spec. and im on my way to Novice Pistoleer. I am disapointed in health shot though. Hope to see you guys in the game.
i'm 10,000xp away from pistol specialist (60k down, 10k to go! woohoo!). i was actually aiming for smuggler profession, but have become attached to pistol and don't really want to bother climbing up the unarmed brawler tree.
and as someone mentioned elsewhere on the scylla forum, there's a guy selling awesome pistols on naboo which helps alot.
what i've done is made my own macro to use /intimidate and /bodyshot2 (4 times) and works effectively against thugs.
anybody else made any creative macros for pistol users????
I am with Ere, I need some good macros for combat. I have been using health shot to start, roll, kip, then body shots. Seems to work okay.
I am pistol specialist and way too confused to figure out what to do next. I have eng. III but hardly craft anything and Survey IV that has made me tons of cash. I hate to give up survey but I might have to from what I have read here. Someone posted what seemed like a good skill list for pistoleer, master marks, scout, pistol and BH pistol I-IV. It looked good, but I am afraid that I can't make enough money to own a house as a pistoleer. Any thoughts on that?
Pistol specialist at 70,000 xp, but 450,000 after climbing the second tier??? That's gonna take a while, I don't care what anyone says.
Beta folks have the jump on where to hunt and probably will make their professions in a time that seems reasonable to them.
The newbies will hope that missions will open up waypoints to camps with reasonable monsters that give reasonable exp.
Me, i'm searching for those slow moving mobs or static single spawns to macro my way overnight or tres-fiesta my way up. It's a chore to level with broken grouping and it being boring while playing solo.
