you cant say funcitonal at all most of our specials are broken. From what i have seen you said so faris that yourbuffed and have armor on...that reallydoesnt say much.Your also using a Geo pistol which in most cases cost about a million creds....less we forget id rather spend it on hard working dancers then waste it on some stun pistol. Real pvp occurs when 2 people duke it out without buffs thats whenthe real fight to survival begins. You should try it some time...oh without your million dollar pistol.. see how ya do..GOOD LUCK

Oberon is correct, our specials are not broken. yes they can be much better, yes they are redundant, and from a straight comparison, we are not equivalent to a rifleman in speed, dmg or accuracy (at 64m). Melee classes are a joke to any expereinced range combatant, just don't getcloser than 25 m. As for ours being the worst class? Have to disagree, all the professions have problems or could use improvements. Pistoelers will have concerns addressed in time, we just need to be patient and learn to play the profession effectively in the current environment (back in july no one wanted to PvP a pistoleer). Also, for all those straight comparisons, how many are not augmenting pistoleer, or any combat profession for that matter with another? There are no uber 100% 1 elite professions out there, they all have weaknesses.

I agree with Oberon. On Chimaera there are loads of PVP Pistoleers that are doing extremely well; it's all in the gear. You want to whine? Make a pikeman, then you can whine.

my point is this...

Is Pistoleer a completely gimped Class? No. Most of our specials work, some are redundant...

We are still useful if you know what you are doing...

Maybe it's because the first three professions I mastered were Smuggler, Squad Leader, andCarbineer, I tend to think of Pistoleer as a pretty together profession...

Personally, I think attention should be focused on the professions that are worse off than pistoleer first...ie: Squad Leader, Carbineer, Ranger...etc. When it comes to working classes, Pistoleer is right up there with TKA as being pretty well off...

and Mka, as I stated above, I was using a Pistol I payed 80k for...it has (I believe off the top of my head; at work, so I can't check) 212 max damage with powerup...

No, Pistoleers aren't totally gimped. We're actually quite decent at PvE. But do we stand a chance in PvP? Not unless we pick up Doc skills as support or the BH Pistols line.

(as a disclaimer, I'm referring to organized PvP, not unprepared skirmishes)

Pistoleer is in no way a working class like TKA or Rifleman. I think we fit well in between Carbineers and Squad Leaders, with some utility, but not the necessary power to use it to full extent.

do we shoot pistols? yes.

are we comparable to other pure combat professions? no.

can we do anything interesting with our weapons? no - just a bleed, a pistol whip, and broken random HAM attacks.

are we to be feared in combat? no.

are we useful in high level pve? no.

pvp? no way.

Gonna have to disagree on that last point...my Geo Pistol is something people fear, and I get the cert at.....Techniques 2!

Something from Pistoleer that people fear!

The other dayI faced 6 people by myself...I killed 5 of them, the 6th ran away...

(I was using a pistoleer special)

Just becauseyou aren't effective in PvP, doesn't mean this class isn't...

And the biggest noob response in the world...

I've got a 400 max damage geo pistol, and BH pistol 4 as well as master pistoleer.

As soon as ANYONE puts on stun layer armor (which on wanderhome is a large majority of people) you'll do about 100 damage at the most with your powerfullest attack.

Can we hit a pool for 300-500 a shot through armor of 80% resist and 40% stun resist like a rifleman? No.

Do we have any state effects like carbineer? No.

Pistoleer is a joke, by itself or with rogue or expert BH. If you want to win in PvP, get rifleman.

I have to say once you have BH Pistols + MGunfighter Stoppingshot does some nasty damage! random ham or not, if all that ownage went to one ham bar WE would be the uber prof. No we're not as gimped as some people say but hey we're not anywhere near decent either...id like to see fanshot become better then stopping shot since its one step above heh heh...hell I can spam stopshot as fast as or fast then any other special....still the most usefull PvP move HAS to be Eyeshot ha ha nothings better then a buffed opponent with no brandy attack you...can you say OWNED!

Its because of these kind of posts that nothing gets fixed. Devs read 42 complaints and 3 posts saying "My Pistol Pwns" and think everything is fine. Those 42 ppl must just be whiners. For the average casual player pistoleer sux. A powergamer will excel at any prof they have, well maybe not pikeman

The main problem is people are leaving this game left and right nowadays. Once we get our toon honed its gets boring after that. There is just so many times I can go and kill object A. Pub8 is junk. I think it was TH that said since Combat Balance was shelved pub8 was going to address "major combat issues". I'd like to know which issues they mean. I don't see anything in the notes.

I hate gettin' on a rant andwhinin' and moanin' about the game but I'm paying $30 a month for this. I expect more customer service than "your thread has been deleted". I submit a ticket and wait, and wait, and then get a CSR to tell me sorry that poofed there is nothing we can do. I want this game to be good but I'm not sure I can wait for Space much longer. Besides, if space is gonna have this many probs should I wait around? Maybe they need to pull some ppl off the expansion and get this game fixed before there is nobody left to play it.

A standard Sonic Blaster is around 100-300 dmg AP0, nothing a good stun layered armor and a synthsteak can't reduce to a mere sting.

If you're talking about a Krayt tissue enhanced version - almost all high-level pistols are somewhat useful when they're enhanced.

Just because you can afford a gun like that doesn't mean that the average Pistoleer can.
Do other combat professions have to rely on a rare dropped schematic weapon with an even rarer loot component? Definitively not.

Just because we do less dmg, does not mean we are broken. Our profession is functional, the specials are redundant. Lets look at the whole picture, we have hands down one of the best professions in terms of defenses (and I would put us on par with fencers, TKA, and rifleman in functionality of our class). We have absolutely no game stopping issues. We can solo any creature in the game (and I am not a powergamer), just takes time and good strategy. As for PvP, name one PvP (serious PvPer) that is a 100% single elite profession. A master rifleman (rifles 1..4, and master rifleman) is not uber combared to a master pistoleer (pistols 1..4, master psitoleer). Place some stun armoron, have entertainer buffs, and some brandy and canapes and moun gold, do you really think the rifleman will drop you before you get out of their ideal range and into yours? Please, people calling and saying our profession is broken is why devs would ignoreour profession (which I do not think they are). Best way to effect change is to simply state our concerns based on facts, and offer constructive criticism on how to improve the profession (also there are teams working on the different professions, so just because some issues are being addressed with other profession quicker does not mean that we are not being enhanced). I would welcome more dmg for a pistoleer, or more interesting and varied specials, but we are far from useless. People just need to learn how to play there profession the way the game design intended and how the current system works (even with balance issues, not buggy or broken specials). And if the argument is that we can not dmg in PvP due to armor/buffs then matbe the armor adn buff systems are what are out of balance?

Whenever there are two extremes the truth lies somewhere in between

PvP doesn't take place in a single-profession vacuum. In addition to your template, there is the other guy's template... and there is no golden template that is always better than everything else. I even know a few pike templates that are quite deadly...

Is Pistoleer not meeting its full potential as a profession? I'd say it's not.
Is it unplayable? No.
Is it gimped? Not really.
Is it equal to other combat professions, in itself? No. And this is where most peoples' problems begin.

Pistol skills have been spread out among three professions in the game (smuggler, pistoleer, BH) and as a result the Pistoleerprofession is less able to stand on its own offensively, without being augmented by either smuggler or BH. That doesn't mean it can't or won't be a valuable component of a more comprehensive combat build... but it does mean that you have to spend more skill points on offensive-related pistol skills in order to reach parity relative to other weapon types, even if the pistolswe wield had identical stats to the weapons other professions get.

The short version is that being successful as a pistol combatant depends very heavily on the rest of your template. This is somewhat true for every profession, but it's most true for the heavily diluted ones - Pistoleer and Carbineer.
