For MOBs that attack in groups, use the prone/bleed approach. Go prone, bleed the target, peace, then walk about 100m away. Once the bled target takes damage from the bleed only it will attack you and the others will ignore you. This works without pets and only occasionally will they group attack you.

I should point out that this no longer works. With the new bleed changes, bleeds deal damage on impact. Social mobs immediately agro you as they normally would. Sorry people who were confused. You aren't doing it wrong, it just doesn't work any more.

I have expressed concern on the topic in the corresondent forum. It was pretty lame and left you with a "am I supposed to be doing this?" taste in your mouth, but it was a crutch for our profession. It probably had to dissapear, but I would have preferred it didn't until after we got some of our specials fixed so that we could deal with the social mobs that will now be attacking us en masse. Nearly all mid to high level enemies are social. I've never seen an MMORPG with such a high concentration of social mobs coupled with such sadly limited crowd control available to the players.

Get Novice Brawler and some BE gear with Warcry/Intimidate mods. Use Intimidate to make your targets easier to hit, and Warcry them to delay them 10 seconds. You need to be within 30 meters for this to work, and it will be changed in the next publish, though I don't entirely understand how (seems like Warcry will only be good BEFORE combat really starts, butI could be wrong).

Also remember that if you use Warcry on a target that's prone, kneeling, or knocked down, they'll stay that way for 10 seconds. That makes for some serious damage you can inflict on your target.

Other general advice is to not use the Pistoleer specials until you're a Master, except for PistolMeleeDefense1 to knock down targets, and Disarming Shot 1 to take out lairs (it does double damage). Instead, use Body Shot 2 as well as Roll Shot and Kip Up Shot, which all do better damage at a faster rate than any Pistoleer moves (until you get Master-level speed). You can waste your time with the flashy shots if you want, but really, the Marksman shots are better.

I find the best way for me personally is faction missions. I get buffed up and take a crate of muon along, then get two faction missions in the same direction, but at about 400m apart. Im at 0010, and the lvl 15 missions I get from the terminals spawn yellow and red con rebels that get me about 2-2.5k each, plus I get faction for the kill.

If you want to increase the XP/FP per mission set, go to one, kill the NPCs but dont finish the mission, just leave the flag and go to the second one. Kill the NPCs there, leave the flag, and by the time you get back to the first one its respawned more NPCs to kill It takes about 45 minutes for the flags to de-spawn, then you just head back and get to more.

Its probably faster levelling with other critters, but Im grinding chef/trying to open a bar/want to hit 1st Lieutenant so I can avoid contraband scans as well as levlling pistoleer, so being able to work towards two of my goals at once is a nice bonus.

You are right that it no longer works for a normal Pistoleer, but you add Scout in there, and it works perfect with mask scent. I actually found this out by accident on a mistype while milking the other day. I hit 3 which is my bleed, and immediately on realizing my error clicked peace. Ran away, and only aggro'ed the one picket instead of the whole gang. I just figured it was our normal tactic for single pulling. I do find that if I miss I agro everything, but if I do not miss I just have to stand around with my thumb up my butt until the first bleed tick and whatever I was fighting comes at me one at a time.

I have to admit I have spent some time on savage quenkers/quenkers in the last week, and just got up to 0-1-1-0 in the skill tree. Thanks to the suggestions here I plan to keep my creatures stashed until they age, and get me some probots tomorrow. Hopefully I can get some more money for better armour as I can finally stay on my feet with it on.

My technique is for a solo player and requires a little bit of preperation, once done though you will gain a ton of xp.

1. Get a droid or pet and group, this is a must even if you leave it at the starport or where ever you must do this.

2. Get Buffed. I have ended up switching my stats to 600/400/400 600/400/400 1000/600/1000 once buffed my Health and Action are nice and high, I already have very high mind stats, throw in muon or brandy and I can hit 2000+ easily to all 9 stats, this is very, very helpful when you need to spam out special after special after special.

3. Go to Endor, I've tried Datooine, Lok, starting planets & Dath but Endor for me works the best.

Here is what you do.

Find a spot on your 128 radar with at least 3 lair groupings todgether. Plunk your droid in the middle of them and spend the next two hours jumping from lair to lair not attacking the lair but the critters. By the time you are finished killing the animals atthe lastlair the firstlair you attacked will have respawned. I average a kill every 45sec 3 to 5 critters per lair. Blurrg Hunters / Bolle Bol Colts / Swirl Prongs 2k each kill. Spiders / Boar Wolves / Roba / ect, 3.5k per kill. End result even though other planets have much higher xp monsters the consistancy of a good location and constant kills adds up. If you figure a 2 hour buff (almost all last longer) and only 100 kills (very conservitive total kill number) on the easiest monsters you have made yourself 200k xp. I routinely make 300k - 500k per buff and never have to move more than 60m. In 7 horus game time I have gone from marksman 4 to pistoleer 1.0.3.2 I think that is pretty good. Once these animals get to be too easy and the xp drops, I will do the same thing in a more difficult lair grouping.

Where to hunt.

I have found that the area between the two rivers about 700 to 1200m away from the research outpost always has lots and lots of lairs, I always go out there, find a lair grouping I like and start racking up the xp.

Problems I have had with other planets is that the lair groupings don't seem to be very close together and I end up spending half my buff time running around just looking for animals to hunt. The caves are great XP on the surface but I haven't found them worth while. For instance the squill cave on Tatooine earns me about 40k to 60k each time because I have NEVER found it empty of other players, some group always comes along and ends up killing most of the monsters before I can get to them.

My two cents worth

This isn’t a "what to hunt guide" but a little basic info on armor. Some choose to go without armor and some live by it. If you choose the way of armored tank, here’s some armor tips on what to get.

Ideally you want to find the best armor possible. If you’re fighting creatures, look for armor with high kinetic protection.

80% Triple layered kinetic Composite is the best. It will absorb 90% of incoming damage. Problem is, it’s cost between 200-500k credits per suit and you have to take buffs and spice to wear.

60-75% Ubese armor is a great for grinding. It will absorb around 80%+ of incoming critter damage. You can find it for 50-150k credits per suit.

50-65% kinetic chitin is a good choice for the grinder with a budget. It will absorb around 75% of critter damage. Often made by non-Master armorsmiths you can find it for 30-70k a set. Because chitin can be pricey to make with less profit than Ubese, it can be hard to find with high kinetic.

5-20% kinetic Mabarir is the poor mans armor. It will absorb 51%+ of critter damage. The best thing is, you can find it on the bazaar for cheep (under 1k per peace). Madarir chest plate dose have one drawback, it doesn’t cover the biceps (or shoulders). Pick up some chitin biceps to plug the hole.

I've found that taking Savage Guf Drolg missions on Talus works pretty well. You get 1500 xp for destroying the lair, and 900 xp per Guf Drolg at Novice. This gets you about 6500 xp per mission, but it's easy to solo (yellow con at novice pistoleer), and pay decently from a novice standpoint (2k creds per mission). All you really need is some good kinetic armor and a Republic Blaster/FWG-5 with decent stats. Unfortunately, they do group aggro, but going prone at max distance and focusing your attacks on one should kill one of them, and it's relatively simple to take out the second from a distance.

shadowpaw and booster blue are two spices that enhance action for a good bit...... it's useful to help spam specials and you don't need to run around and find a doc to buff you...... just rest up or use less specials during your downer

Doctor Buff's, Muon Gold and Savage Quenker missions on Dantooine. The Quenkers don't DB and there is only 2 of them at a time. They give about 20k xp per lair barring babies and payout around 6800. Once you get Fan Shot you can take a lair out in about 5 min. That's what i'm doing and it works out great.Easy xp and money.

Im grinding pistoleer at the moment to and my way is similar to hallaballas since i have fan shot

1. Get a 70%+ Kinetic Ubese Armor

2. Get a Sliced DX2 and some speed/dmg powerups

3. Get a set of Doctors Buffs

4. Get some Brandy/Canapes

5. Get a pet/droid/AT-ST

5. Go to Dantooine Imperial Outpost

6. Get your At-ST or join somebody with a AT-ST

7. Get lvl50+ Savage Quenker missions (spawn 5 quenkers instead of 2 a pop)

8. Group up with your pet/droid and leave it at the starport

9. At the lair tab the lair and use Fanshot all the way while running away

Thats 15 Quenkers a Lair (less if there are babies)for 3900 XP each

Lair is approximately 4300 XP

Thats an optimum of 62800 XP a lair and takes about 10 minutes

Repeat until buffs wear out
