Personally, I favor getting marksmanship first and putting combat xp into the stances tree. In part, it was due to the life changing event that happened for most smuggler's when accuracy mods were fixed. I still have fond memories of a Master Smuggler that posted a screenshot of kiting a bantha and missing 10 of 10 shots at 10m. Wish I could find that post...

But the others are right. Fanshot is great special and stopping shot is no pushover either. If you like all green in the combat log and don't mind sticking with bodyshot2, I would say go marksmanship and stances (speed). If you want to do a bit more damage, techniques and stances.

I think we all agree that training some pistoleer first will make smuggler much eaiser.

Hi I posted this same question on the pistoleer forum, but I might get different answers here so:

I'm a new pistoleer/smuggler. Which should I get first: Dirty Fighting 2 of smuggler, 1000, 0100, or 0010 of pistoleer?

My personal opinion is to get up to 0040 in pistoleer for fan shot, then go rake in xp at an unbelievable rate. Going up dirty fighting is not as beneficial for XP gathering as Fan Shot is.

I went and got fan shot first because thats what everyone said to do. Fan Shot is only good if you are a distance away.. then you hitmultiple targets.. but at close range I found HS2 to be much nicer especially mixed with a knock down (lowblow or pistol whip). Sure you may lose some xp due to the bleed but I dont care about that. I was doing mostly savage quenkers on dantooine but just started doing crimson blurrg missions on Endor, these are great 11k missions that a pistoleer can easily do. Crimson blurrg's have a vulnerability to acid so brind your dx2 and I found that they were as easy as quenkers and gave 500 more xp and 5k more credits. I still love doing quenkers but if you want a change of pace try crimson blurrg lairs on endor.

Do what Ternque said to do, it is way faster than Fanshot and there is no way you should die if you have ubese armor with at least 70% resist. Stay at 64m /prone /healthshot 2 ... stand up and wait for it to come to you, run back a bit. Then when it comes spam healthshot 1 ... I say healthshot 1 because it is faster than HS2 and it targets one pool ... no random pools like Fanshot. If you use fanshot you wil be running around like a fool for quite sometime trying to get them off your back and may even die. Believe it or not HS1 is prob the best thing to use, try it you'd be surprised. I finished my last pistols box with it ... wish I had know earlier xp would have gone so much faster. Kill quencks one by one or even better use that routine on pikets ... if you do you will get about 8-10 per lair killing them one by one. You definetly need brandy as well with at least 400, once you have that a full buff, good kinetic resist armor and this routine you will be invincible. Also make sure you check the resists on the creatures and use the appropriate gun. Good luck.

Oh yeah, fanshot is ONLY good with ranged enemies ... not Melee's. I owned six Storm troopers today in less than a minute lol.

another thing that is good, if you have suppresion fire then use it, it helps. /prone /healthshot2 /peace get up, move back about 20mwait ... when it approaches within range /healthshot 1 /healthshot 1 /supression fire /healtshot 1 and if needed /pistolmelledefense 1 and healthshot again.

Not true, because you are not waiting for the tick to do dmg to them you are spamming HS1, you only use the tick to draw them to you away from the pack. I got the same amount doing this as I did with fanshot and NEVER came close to dying once.

Smuggler 0040 before anything else.

Don't get anything else unless you want to make spice (0-0-4-4) or slice (master smuggler).

Get Fanshot first (Stances & Grips 4). After that, it doesn't really matter, though I'd suggest Accuracy (Marksmanship) or Dodge (Tactics) before going much further. I found those a lot more useful than the Smuggler specials.

These guys have their heart in the right place... but i have a better solution if you want to climb up
master pistoleer/smuggler - being one myself.

Get buffs and good kinetic armor, head to Dantooine and take quenker/savage quenker missions. Get a driod, have him
stay at the outpost your at, and get him to group with you. This will give you near 25% more xp per kill. Oh yea,
get a nice DX2 or FWG5.

Drive up to 64 meters from the lair, get off, then go prone. Hit the first quenker with healthshot2 until he drops -
he should die before he knows what hit him. Hit the second with HS2 until he drops... he should die right before he
gets to you.

Tap the lair until a new quenker comes out of the lair. Healthshot2 him also. So on and so forth.

I would HEAVILY recommend putting your skill points into pistoleer 0-4-0-0 first. This will make you accurate as hell.
I'd personally invest in 0-4-4-0 next, all the while investing in the pistol speed skill with your combat xp.

Many people have leveled 0-0-4-0 first because of fanshot. It is fantastic, but healthshot2 WILL kill quicker!
It targets only one pool (health), fires quickly, and does ALMOST as much damage as fanshot. The result is a dead quenker.

With you investing in 0-4-0-0, you should be killing alot more quickly and efficiently.

Also, those saying invest in smuggler 0-0-4-0 might not be up to date with smuggler abilities. Before they were nerfed, you
could knock an enemy down then keep him there for 10 seconds while you do 2 times the damge to him by delaying him with Panic Shot.
This is no longer the case, you can only knock them down now, and panic shot only delays until you do damage again to them...

Go 0-4-0-0 first if you want to get your masters most efficiently. And to be honest, I'd wait till master pistoleer to begin
leveling smuggler.... seeing as you can whip through xp like a lightsaber through a stormtrooper.
