I would suspect that even after the combat re-balance, until the professions that do not work are fixed (carbineer, a lot of pistoleer) that the working rifleman profession, not matter how nerfed will be better.
A lot of the flaws in the other professions are that they are not designed well or are bug ridden. Anything that generally effects combat will probably hit them hardest, no matter what the developers think they are doing.
So you can either stay with a broken profession that is going to be nerfed, or switch to a fixed profession that is going to be nerfed.
I am at the least giving rifleman a try (master carbineer at the moment).
As far as rifleman being a support class, where does it say that??? In fact the description of sniper does not imply support, it in fact implies to me independent abilities or in groups of 2 or 3. This may be in support of others, but only insofar as damage is concerned.
A support class is a doctor, a tank is a melee, the ranged classes should all be pure offensive power and damage.

I would stick with pistoleer. My hunting partner is a rifleman and yes he has conceal shot and does awesome damage as compared to my pistol - and as a master he is darn near as fast as me. But when things get close he is in a world of hurt. Plus with pistoleer you can always try a side profession such as Smuggler. Now, if they could only up our speed a little life would be good and we really could stand toe to toe with other melee professions.

Id stay with Pistoleer sir.I was a Master Pistoleer/Ranger on another server and yeah I agree it is not as strong as the rifles but hey for me it was nice not too have to walk back and forth to harvest creatures while I wasn't a master but after reaching it you'll have very good accuracy up close along withhigh damaging attacks but I think with the combat balance revamp they'll make things how they should be :
Rifleman strong attacks,ok speed,good accuracy at medium to high distances
Pistoleer strong attacks,fast speed,good accuracy at close distances
Carbineer medium attacks,strong status attacks,ok accuracy all around/good at medium ranges
Stick with whatever your gut tells you because I can guarentee you whether the proffession is broken or not you will want to go back if you leave,good luck on your decision sir.

I would stick with pistoleer simply because if that is what your gut wanted stick with it and after the combat balance revamp you can hopefully expect to see changes that are proper to each type of classes such as;
Rifleman better accuracy at greater distances bad in close range situations/medium speed
Pistoleer better accuracy up close and medium distances bad in long range/fast speed...etc
As for me I think these changes will come and Im going to change so it wont be a pain to harvest creatures like my other character who is a Master Pistoleer,Ranger on another server.If you are into PVP and want to kick butt and enjoy spamming attacks then Rifleman is the class for you ...for now.
