Thread: Dual wield. A new approach?

Although I envision the devs taking the quick way out and just creating a weapon with nice stats and the graphic of dual wield I do like this idea. Let everyone dual wield and just make the masters better, I do see a problem however with BH. Seeing as a BH is the ultimate marksman, then surely he would be able to dual wield his own pistol. He has his own pistol and pistol line with dual wield mods by your system, telling him he can't dual wield that gun is a little unfair in my opinion, very much in the same way that master pistoleer alone can't wield the DE-10 effectively with the current speed formula. Obviously a commando should not be able to dual wield his launcher pistol because he's not a pistoleer, but the recoil of the launcher pistol should require both hands anyway. Smuggler only being allowed to dual wield the marksman pistols makes sense, but smuggler needs his own pistol and some pistol mods along with the option to dual wield his pistol if he so chooses. Giving master pistoleers the sole right to dual wield other guys pistols is wrong. Just my opinion.



Also because dual wield would be so code intensive, I think dual wield should be dedicated to an entire publish and made a fully new character customisation technique. Rather than just allowing light weapon users (pistoleers and fencers) to dual wield their weapons with a minor penalty, why allow the medium weapon guys to wield their weapons in one hand (with large penatly) while using a lighter, certified weapon in the off-hand. This would allow a daring BH, or other pistol/carbine hybridto wield one of his carbines in one hand and his trusty scatter pistol in the other, he might not hit too often because of the penatly, but damn it would be cool, and it would help BH in combat because that weapon switch delay was a big time nerf to BH and they've had enough nerfs already I think. Similarly, let swordsman wield one of his own weapons and combine it with a fencer weapon (as long as he's certed) again with large accuracy penalties, but adding a new flavour. This again allows players to get round the weapon switch delay time and utilize more damage types than they can currently. This might not sound too reasonable to most, but how many times do we see carbines being used in one hand in action movies, and also, many swords can be wielded effectively in either one hand or two depending on preference.


That's just an extra thought on dual wield, sounds daft but at least it would make purposeful content.

Similar to a shotgun, but at a much lower scale. You could wield it in one hand reasonably comfortably with enough skill/practice, think of it more as a magnum than a shotgun.


I must of misunderstood your system, being able to use one scatter pistol and one other pistol is fine, I thought you meant that no combinations involving the scatter were possible. I'm on board now.

I like your idea, but I'd rather see off-hand accuracy skill up rather than gun certs,myself.

Love the duel wield idea... but the thought of all of these uber-jerks running around kill-stealing everything in sight kind of worries me. To deter or make it harder for someone to do this make it so that the weapons have to be identical. Speed, min and max damage, range, and even wound. Something like this would definatly boost sales for weaponsmiths and also more buisness for smugglers (lord knows smugs never get any love.... thanks for the chef revamp DEVS... killed the spice industry in one publish!!!) since they would have to but multiples of a single weapon just to try and get a matching slice.... just a thought....

I would prefer no dual wielding until Master Pistoleer.

I am master pistoleer so according to any plan suggested, i would be well off int he duel wield. but the more i think about the duel wield, the more i don't liek the idea. Think about it from the pvp perspective. A guy running at you with a strong mind fire in one hand and a strong health fire in the other. then he switches to a pair of poisons. then goes to his highend de10/300 damage geo blaster and lays down a torso shot and stacks health shots on you. then he just hits you with eye shot from there. All this could be done fairly quickly also, especially with a good macro. You instantly have about 6 or 7 dots on you and are taking eyeshots now. this will be tough to beat then. Looks like if i get duel weild, fencer may go out the window for bh 0040 and a couple smuggler lines.

Look guys, the devs said this wasnt going to happen, so why bother keep making new threads about it? Do you seriously think they are going to read this thread and go, "oh, actually thats a good idea, lets implement that"?
