I'm against the weapon delay timer as it currently stands. Looks like a good idea implemented in true SOE style. i.e. poorly thought out.
If you want to make it work here are the changes.
- Add in animations for the switching of weapons - preferably with holsters and shoulder slung carbines and rifles.
- Seperate the delays for each weapon type.1 second delay when the switch is between two different pistols. 2 second delay if the switch involves a carbine weapon. 3 second delay if the switch involves a rifle or heavy weapon.
- Add a special to the quickdraw line of pistol which makes the next switch have no delay.
The fourth change I've long been in favour of is putting the delay before combat begins reflecting the ease of use of the pistol.
e.g. A commando and a pistoleer of opposing factions crash into each other as they turn a corner in Coronet. Both begins to fumble for their weapon. As it currently stands the commando has the advantage as the weapons draw immediately, and he has the most damaging weapon.
With this change the pistoleer suddenly has a change bringing his pistol to bear a full2 seconds before the commando.
This is what pistols were designed for.

the armor and weapon delay both address two exploits. one that was already happening, and one that was going to happen. the first was the weapon delay..
some people were hoarding weapons with DoTs. nightsister lances are a good example. they would make a macro that would attack with one weapon, switch to another instantly, and attack with another. the DoTs from different weapons stack. so in a matter of 5-6 seconds, they could land enough DoTs attacks that you would be dead in one or two ticks. basically a poor mans combat medic.
next was the armor. jedi cannot use force powers while wearing armor. the delay on armor is to prevent the jedi from making macros that would unequip armor, use a force power, and reequip the armor.
so everyone suffers because a few people were able to abuse the system in place. I am all for the delay, but I dont think it should have been an across the board delay. it should be varied, and depend on the weapon.

I actually didnt even notice it last night, switching a few times in combat.
Here is how it works, some people do not understand fully.
If you have blaster 1 equipped and then enter combat, you can immediately switch to blaster2. But if you try to switch from blaster 2 to blaster 3 right away you will get a 3-5 second delay. So basically you just have to hold a weapon for 3-5 seconds before switching, or it "makes" you wait. So if you lead with one pistol for a dot or something and then switch, you won't be effected. But if you try to switch from that second pistol within 5 seconds of equipping it, you get the delay before it will switch them.

No.... actually it shows that they're paying more attention than people realize, and that most players scream at them when they don't understand a change. If there was a "complete disconnect" between the Devs and the players, then the Devs wouldn't have known about the ways to rapidly switch weapons and armor in ways that can lead to exploits. But, of course, when they take measures to prevent those exploits, nobody bothers to understand why and just cries "nerf."
I'm not saying I like the change, in fact I'm indifferent, but understanding a change and liking a change seem to be two things people have trouble separating around these forums.
I probably should have been more explicit in my scorn for this change ... or this type of change. It's just a typical short-sighted band-aid that's been slapped onto a problem because of the terminal lack of good engineering resources available to the devs. They just don't have the resources to adequately maintain the code they already have, because they've devoted most of it to creating new code they hope we'll buy. It's a vicious circle that results an an ever-deteriorating product, and this type of change is just a symptom of the greater problem.

The reason for armor delay is that Jedi no longer can wear armor and use force powers or a LS. If they could switch armor instantly, then it would be very easy to macro so that each special could be "armor off/Force special/Armor on", this would defeat the purpose and allow them to have armor protection while we stay vulnerable to LS damage. So, I agree with this change.
I explained that part of BH tactics is to use multiple weapons as our carbine line is status effects and people switch back and forth. A 3 second delay coupled with a 5 sec KD timer ( time opponent is on the ground w/o dizzy) would make that special worthless as we'd have only a 2 sec window of opportunity. This was well received by Keldarin and JustG and they will look into accomadating BHs.
Got that from a developer quote thats stickied at the top of the Bounty Hunter forums, but I'm sure nonBHs need some peace of mind on this issue too. Personally I think its long overdue. "Guyver" and "Go Go Gadget Armour" macros look **edit**. I use them, not saying that I don't, but they do look **edit**.

Hell I nearly gota suntan in the Bounty Hunter forums...
(so many anti-dev flames, and now they've started spit roasting Tanks, one of the best corresp's around)
