Thread: A reasonable request from a pistoleer: fix our profession

Umm duh this is the pistoleer forum, of course all we care about "in this forum" is pistoleer. Do you think any other profession has discussions about us, or any other besides themselves? Bah not likely. I agree with you that some other professions need REVAMPING because they are not much and don't add much. Hell I'm master ranger, and even though we completely work, we are not anything special, and don't add much. We are the gatherers of the galaxy. Not even the best hunters.

Even though smuggler or SL are kind of lame, and need to made fun, and useful, what they at least works. More so then what pistoleer has. Who the hell, redoes and makes "Improvments" on something from the past, when something else from the past doesn't hardly work to begin with? We need fixing, end of story. They devs only seem to care about adding new content. Yeaaaa. I have never been all that impressed with SOE development practices. They have no idea what they are doing IMHO about developing, planning, customer service and actually thinking about what players want or do in a game.

You want a list of "tweaks"? first lemme give you this...


whos better? TKM? or a TKM with Master brawler and master swords? Uh oh does that mean that TKM is not a stand alone profession?!?! must be the case.... how about Master BH with some pistoleer or carbineer How about Commando with TKM? I mean do you get the point that all thats wrong is that if a pistoleer cant stand alone and do exactly what a rifleman can do then you guys arent gonna be happy. Even if they made stopping shot a pool specific shot (prolly be health or action cuz theres too many people that can hit mind now...) then you would not be happy cuz a rifleman could still hit mind. If you COULD hit mind you wouldnt be happy cuz a rifleman could hit it harder. And if you COULD hit mind and you were faster? you STILL wouldnt be happy cuz a rifleman could STILL hit harder and ALMOST as fast, oh not to mention... my pistolmelee special doesnt work right... it only kd's and doesnt do a dizzy or a stun or anything....WAAAAAAAA


Tweaks... first? make bodyshot3 do more damage than BS2. (this is about the only real FIX i see needing to happen)


second, give one special pool specific damage.


third make pointblankarea do area damage, but since you should be moving around in the first place not standing there i dont know why you would need to use this that often but for the sake of the name... cool


fourth disarm should delay for 5-10 seconds


fifth stopping shot should uhhh stop a target... perhaps> (not really sure that should be fixed... hmmmm....)


sixth ok, ok make your pistolmelee attack (aka pistolwhip) be more effective... (even then its still pretty useless and ill kd with TKM anyday instead)


last? This is what i think would solve alot of pistoleer problems... DUAL PISTOLS. It makes us faster and cooler (if thats what your here for, the cool look and all) and we would do more damage.


as far as im concerned? this is all it needs and i bet its gonna happen when the combat balance comes out. So im gonna start a new thread in the pistoleer forum for cool stories that have happened to you as a master pistoleer. And i really dont care if theres a post in there about someone who is a TKM/pistoleer that kicked some serious ass and loved it

one more thing... PLEASE dont think that i dont want my profession to be better... I do agree that pistoleer is the COOLEST profession in the game simply because of waht we are and do i have always loved a gunfighter that shoots the bottles out of the air and shooting from the hip and all that cool stuff. I jsut want to see more positivity rather than ONLY negativity all the time...


But i gotta be honest, even if they make Pistoleer the new UBER prfession im still gonna keep TKM/ Master brawler just because it makes me that much better of a player all around

Threethings here:


1) I have said nothing about any other profession's abilities or skills. I haven't said anything about Rifleman. I haven't said anything about Commando. I haven't said anything about TKM or Master Brawlers or Master Swordsmen. You don't know me, so don't tell me how I would feel about things which I have yet to expressed opinions. If you can't stay on target, get off the firing range.


2) Your list of "tweaks" seems to consist almost entirely of 'fixing our specials'. How original. I wish Pistoleers had thought of that themselves. Oh, wait, we did. It happens to be our number one profession concern:

3) I doubt very seriously they will be fixing these things in the combat "balance", given TH's comments: "If the CB is implemented all at once, it will seem like a gameplay change. If we do it in pieces, it will seem like a series of nerfs." It sounds to me as if they are just going to nerf everything and say, "See, isn't that better? Wasn't that worth waiting a year for?"

I don't want Pistoleer to be the "new UBER prfession", I just want my freakin' specials to work. It has been 10 months, they should have been able to fix BodyShot3 by now.


I don't see how the hell they can "balance" combat, when none of the professions work at even 90% and the only way anyone gets by is by stacking defenses/specials from 2 or 3 professions.


Give Pistoleer (and every other Profession) working specials and let things run for a while - THAT would be the best "combat balance" they could do.


Unfortunately, it seems they are intent upon totally reworking combat, which means that we will be back to where we were last June - totally FUBAR.I can only imagine that a year from now, people will still be asking why BodyShot3 is worse than BodyShot2.

I see both of your points. Some of them I agree, some I don't.


Pistoleer is fun, but you would have to have blinders on to see we have no options besides picking up another profession that may/maynot help us overcome Pistoleer's shortcommings while other people can have the flexability to choose other non-combat professions and be just as good. MBH I've always said is a waist of skill points atm. Are they weak, hell no. But can you get more for your skill points, thats a big YES.


Being completely serious, you should try to grind half the combat professions if you have not done so. Try them out, a new world opens up in the way of filling your toolbar with worthwhile specials. I never wanted Pistoleer to be uber, I personally just didn't want to get laughed at every time I'm in a group and were going over what roles each of us are going to play. I mean EVERYONE asks why I'm a Pistoleer since its so obvious little to nothing works except for the defenses. Will it get fixed in the Combat Balance, who knows. No one knows when the Combat Balance is coming anymore, Pistoleer is never mentioned anywhere for fixes. Its my dream that Pistoleer will someday become a force to be reckoned with but not invincible. Give us some "special" love and you will see threads like these disappear.


Anyways I'm glad someone is enjoying the profession, at least the devs can hang their hat on that.
