like the above poster said u definatley need acid, energy and heat based weapons for sure which is what i carried for a long time but after a bit found that i had to expand my weapons inventory a bit more and grab some kinetic and stun based weapons.

Basically even crappy weapons like thestriker and tangle pistols have a time and place to use.It all depends on resists and armor.

Personally i carry

dx2-acid and AP1

republic- energy and AP1

scout- energy and better dps then my republic so is good against non armoured opponents succeptible to energy

fwg4-heat

tangle-stun

striker-kinetic

the poster above me has very little understanding about what he is talking about. Yes, you could use a great republic blaster from start to finish, but for best results having a wide array of options in dmg type does make a differance.

Tangle Pistol is the only Stun Damage i know of, Striker the only Kinetic i know of. Yah they suck as guns but they aren't for every day use. Only certain critters require you to use them to be able to do damage (the high end Voritor on Dantooine come to mind)

thats a lot of roll playing crap

Republican blaster with a high end damgage slice is all you need no matter what. you can use it from novice marksman and still be using it if you make Master pistoleer.

I have almost every pistol there is in the game along with every weapon for commando, marksman and pistoleer.

The Scout pistol

excellent for speed and dps, but far less effective against armored npc's and even less if they have any type of resist to energy. basically if they have one or both, your effectiveness with this will net you a very weak attack, longer fight and eventually death even with the speed of the weapon. so basically against one or both you will have your damage reduced by 50% for them having armor alone and an additional percentage from their resist to energy. So if they have 25% energy resist and armor, your damage will be reduced by 50% and then another 25%, factor in the hit to miss ratio, your movement and theirsand you can well be doing less than 80 points of damage and not at a very high rate with this weapon.....agains't something with 8k HAM, it's gonna be a long fight or short death......so use it against non armored enemies only.

The SR combat pistol

this is basically a scout blaster with less speed and dps, but is better suited for armored and energy resistant npc's. This gun has AP1 which basically negates the 50% decrease when attacking a armored npc. Therefore you wil be doing normal damage, which would be more than the scout blaster can do even with it's faster speed.

The FWG

by far the best pistol with combination of speed and damage, plus it's heat damage. you can get the speed of the scout pistol with lowminimum damage to high max damage. with a speed/damage slice or HAM powerup, you can really do some extreme damage with this weapon. Only drawback I've found with this weapon is it's wide range of damage. One time you might get 100 damage, next you might get 400 depending on the stats of the gun of course.

The DX2

THis is the one I use the most as there are very, very few creatures and npc's that have any resist toacid at all and a lot that do have low resist to acid. The range on it sucks, but damage is almost equal to the FWG when sliced and HAM isn't too bad. not the fastet pistol but very effective. Also it has AP1

The Tangle pistol

got one but don't use it, since my DX2 does the job....so I don't know much about this one in battle....but it does have a good chance to stun your target which if i'm not mistaken lowers their defense and makes them take double the damage when stunned. Overall though I don't think it does extreme damage.

The striker pistol

Not useful in my opinion as there is a lot of enemies out there with light armor and kenetic resist. Plus, it virtually has no punching power. Probably good for low level critters, but that's about it....helps to have it handy though if you want to do kenetic damage. A Krayt enhanced one might be nice but i've never seen one of those...ultmately, the pistols listed above will be more effective against mobs that spawns dark blue, yellow or red than this pistol will.

The republic blaster

I'm having a problem with finding anPost-Patch one on my server. Currently the only ones we have available still need the certification.......so sorry, I can't give any advice on this one....currently the only one I don't have.

Just for reference: The only weapon that's missing in my opinion is a pistol that does cold damage....but the devs stated somewhere that they will eventually add new weapons in the game......I'd bet that the ones you see mounted on the wall in guild halls might be future versions and new types of weapons......check them out for yourself.....

Get all of these weapons as you will need them sooner or later......also, an overlooked aspect of the game and weakness of combat is that they are the weakest weapons in the game. Carbines, rifles, bh and commando weapons are much more powerful. For example the max damage I get when using any of my pistols is around 600-700 with specials. I can get 2000 each shot with a carbine or rifle using specials without any rifleman skills or carbine skills other than what marksman profession offers. So having a variety of weaponsand being able to start off combat with them can make using your pistols a lot easier once your enemy closes in on you. I normally start off with a good sniper style shot with a rifle or carbine using /aim and /mindshot1 or /legshot1 or 2 to bleed, then once they get close, pull my pistol, healthshot2 and finish them off. this is formobs that con red though. Normal shots can take out anything less than a red conned mob with few specials. I always examine my targets first and attack the weakest HAM bar first. Using a good rifle or carbine before your in pistol range can take half the HAM of your enemy making it easier to kill with pistols....plus carbines and rifles come with Armor peircing 2. No pistol has AR 2 as far as I know and no mob or player character has higher than light armor....so AP2 means you will always do 25% more damage vs light armor and 50% more damage vs no armor. It's also possible to take out npc's with one shot with AP2, usually the rifles though, never a pistol as far as I know.

I use my dx2 80% of the time, FWG 15% of the time and others for special occasions when the first two won't be effective. In some rare occasions you will run into npc's that have 25%-50% resist in everything except stun plus light armor and then sometimes they will also have resist to stun. On this occasion, I pull out my most damaging weapon with the highest AR rating and speeddepending on how fast and/or how hard the enemy moves or hits. I have 60% composite armor, pets and probots so they have to hit pretty hardbefore I run orkite and result to using my T21 or laser rifle.

also to maximize your xp group with pets but don't use them as the more damage your pet does, the less xp you will get......Use all your bleeds...healthshot1 and healthshot2 stack and can do over 1000damage every 20 secondsif used together.....If you use these right, you can get max xp everytime from any enemy. Your gonna need it.......Lastly, overchargeshot 1 and 2 are your friend.....they double your damage you do at the cost of 2 points of condition to your weapon, I only use these against mobs that con red.....but with decay in the game, I'd rather lose condition to firing my weapon than 5% dying even thoughI do have the luxury to repair my weapons with minimal risk of total loss.....but I have yet to replace a weapon at all.......

bottom line is that the best pistol for you as a novice pistoleer is dependent on the type of mobs you hunt and the planets you are on. so use your examine feature and look at what your targets weakness is and use that particular weapon they are vulnerable against....this is why you should have one of every weapon in the game.

A good pistol is only a small portion of the equation.

I'm not totally sure about this, but I do think that you need to be at least novice scout to be able to see detailed info on mobs when examining them other than the default info, but again I'm not sure. As it stands now I can see all resist, whether they have armor, if they are tamable, their ferocity level, whether they deathblow or not, their aggressiveness, what kind of meat or hide they produce when harvested and sometimes in the examine window you can see what type of weapon they have so that will help you determine what defensive tactics to use....i.e. if they have a rifle....move in close and use your pistols....if they have a pistol....stay at a decent range with cover and use your rifles and carbines...or if you want a longer fight or pistol xpyou can still use your pistols but use the /aim feature to increase accuracy, a little slower but you'll hit more and do more damage......or move in bleed them with healthshots and move out of thier range.

one more thing, to improve your effectiveness with any pistol, special attacks are very important, so other than the option to migrate your stats or use buffs.....look for low HAM Encumberance on weapons.

hope this helps you....a little more than i intended on writing...LOL

im sorry but i know what i am talking about after earning over 1 million pistol XP and using ALL of the availible pistols on my server. The republican blaster is still by far the best by 100000 miles even factoring resists, which imho seem to do nothing in PVE.

to the poster who says he hits for 700 consistantly... thats great me and my rep. blaster consistantly hit for 1100 styled no matter what... you try and read too much into this cheap game

1 million pistol xp... lol... well I'm sure that puts everyone else in the shade by a long way.

Are you seriously suggesting that the Republic (NOT Republican) Blaster is the best weapon, for example, at Point Blank range against a mob with high energy resist? And yes resists do work in PvE, read the numbers over the mob's head and compare to your text box spam.

In my (more than 1 million pistol xp) experience, the Rep Blaster is a superb weapon for long range sniping - you need a switch out when mobs close on you.

You must be confusing it with your Jackhammer...

1 million Pistol XP is nice and a lot of work! no one will begrudge you that you have experience. However, to master pistoleer you need nearly 4 million pistol XP!

4 Million exp guh don't depress me I'm already depressed after reading how broken the pistoleer profession is supposed to be.

I amd use Republic blasters and I think they are spinkii but I will look in to aquiring a dx2 and other weapons as I go
