Thread: Fanshot bugged??
I head out to go just waste stuff in celebration. On Yavin, I see a nice camp of Mamiens, about 6 or so huddled together for safety around their lair.
I go prone, make sure all targets are within 64 meters...
giggling like a schoolgirl, I cut loose with a 10-shot Fanshot macro and see a constant
HEAD HIT
ARM HIT
BODY HIT
LEG HIT
BODY HIT
BODY HIT
over the poor little critters' heads...
but wait...
my main target drops like a rock, I tab to another target and
W T F ?
he took ZERO damage, full HAM bar. I tab thru the rest of the mobs, same deal. NO DAMAGE.
Repeated this 3 times at 3 camps.
NOT
HAPPY
I've pointed this out a few times over the past weeks.
Every so often (most noticable at the Naboo Dark Trooper base) I fire Fanshot a few times, see it go in the combat que, yet zero damage is taken or reported in my combat window or on the mob(s).
The only fix while I take on damage is to clear the que and switch to any other shot or just let the shots clear the que.
I've also noticed Fanshot has a better chance to work if you open with another shot, then followed with Fan.
Just add it to the list...

"If you examine the description on fan shot in your skill tree, you will see that it is a shot that has a chance to land multiple times on a "SINGLE" target, not multiple targets. The name of the shoit is a bit misleading."
The description is what is misleading, not the name of the shot. Fanshot does hit multiple targets, and it's supposed to, as long as these targets are all in the cone area in front of you. *sigh* Why do I even bother repeating myself over and over about this? Nobody wants to listen to a Master Pistoleer, what do they know?
But say they are more spread out, as in side by side shoulder to shoulder, i rarely hit anymore than one.
That's because it is an aoe cone effect, and the cone does not seem to be terribly large.
I don't see this as being bugged....it's actually logical in a sense and realistic.
This special along with many other specials in the game that hit multiple targets is completely random. You are not suppose to hit everything in the cone every time. Look at it like this. even when a grenade goes off in real life the shrapnel can completely miss you even though you may be standing a foot away from the grenade. Why? because it comes out random in random directions.....there is always a gap inbetween somewhere. Fanshot is similar to that each time you shoot it.
Don't expect that everytime you shoot fanshot and targets are in the AOE that they all will get hit and/or take damage. You can even shoot something with any other shot and sometimes see in the combat window that you shot so and so for whatever amount of damage but the shot missed. Same thing happens when enemies shoot us....the damage does not always take but is rare and shouldn't be that much of a concern. Another thing....I don't know about anyone else but I really can't tell who got hit and where they got hit when I use fanshot on a bunched up mob. Sure I see arm hit, head it, chest....blah blah blah. But who got hit in the head, who got hit in the chest....There are just too many numbers and letters floating overhead to know what's really going on most of the time.....
Also the shots and action sometimes happen so fast that I don't think the combat window can keep up sometimes.IF I shoot 10 fanshots hit or miss my combat window never ever shows a message for each shot.....they are just too **edit** fast (as a master that is).
Just remember that fanshot and other AOE attacks only have a chance to hit other targets in it's AOE. As far as enemies getting hit by the shot and still have full HAM, I've never seen it happen where only the targeted enemy takes damage and all the others in the AOE don't. I have seen 1 or 2 not get damaged at all though.....I just look at it as if they were standing behind the targeted enemy.....the shots won't go through the target and hit the enemy directly behind him....therefore the enemy directly behind the targeted enemy should not take any damage at all in this case. we are firing lasers not bullets.....bullet can potentially go through 2 targets lined up.....I've never heard of blasters shooting through 2targets.....the shot is usually absorbed by the first target....leaving anything behind undamaged.
This is just how I look at it and I have no problem with fanshot at all....It works fine for me. Giving the speed, power of the shots and effectiveness.....I'm happy with it....doesn't need a change as far as I'm concerned.
We should be more focused on the other specials that don't work at all instead of one of our best ones. Everything will never be 100% perfect...nothing is and we should accept the fact that the special will not be what everyone wants it to be.....it will be what it is and that's that.

well, the problem is that there is spam above the heads of the other mobs in the area (see original post) so according to that I am hitting. It's the same spam you get when you have a nice batch of closeley grouped mobs and you're tearin it up.... except they don't take any damage.
I think the first reply is the accurate one: it IS bugged, and the mobs don't take damage unless they're in "combat" mode (I was prone and did not have aggro when I fired).

before you comment, you should actually try playing the class.
That way you don't look stupid.
