Thread: Is Ranged Support worth having?

It gives you ranged def +6 and melee def +2. Makes your aim command better , but i dont honestly use it much. Any master pistoleer not use it? What is everyone's thought on this. I would love to spend the 14pts elsewhere.

I used the points in medic quite honestly. Had it, never used it, dropped it, never missed it. Of course, I have other skills that more than make up for it, and in a PvP template, it is probably usefull.

suppression fire and warning shot are pretty handy...aim isn't.

do realize, though, that the closer you get to mastering marksman, the closer you are to bounty hunter...

ya just the aim special. Thats exactly what i was thinking, use the 14 pts in medic instead. How well does suppression fire work in PVP for you? I've tried it a bunch of times and it doesnt seem to help that much. Does anyone like using suppression fire in PVP?

suppression fire 2 is a carbineer special..... which leads me to think the marksman one won't be very useful for us in pvp/shrug

i've also never had it actually work- ever
not saying base it on my experiences alone, but i never use it

suppression doesn't usually stick on the first shot, you'll have to give it a few gos from time to time, but it gives you precious seconds of time to continue pounding on the enemy. with low blow, suppressionfire, and PMD1...you have 3 ways to stop an enemy in his tracks and get the #311 out of dodge.

The ranged support line from Marksman really comes down to Suppression Fire & Warning Shot. With Warning Shot you can kite low and some mid level animals all day long, but isn't really worth it at Master. The animals that it can be reliably used on will pose no threat at that point.

Suppression Fire is usually used to slow down an enemy that is chasing you down, and it is presently our only such attack (which is odd, since running & gunning is part of our role). Pistol Melee Defense 1 sort of works for containment if things get out of hand, but I like having both.

On the other hand, in the present state of SWG, many feel that both of these are blown away by the ability to heal yourself with Master Doctor made Stim Bs.

Does it have any mods to accuracey? or is that all just to the /aim special? If it's no additions to accuracey then I think I'll drop it and re-work my template (although I do find Supression fire very handy when mixed in with either PMD1 or LowBlow, having them work one after the other due to different timers etc.), the few extra SP will come in handy

I have a Master Smuggler/almost Master Pistoleer and I don't have ranged support, the extra free skill points are nice as I am pretty squeezed for points ( I also have novice medic and novice merchant), at with pistols you won't miss that much, and you get alot of defences from pistoleer. Personally I would say that don't bother with it unless you are at low levels or are after master marksman.

Ya, thats what i'm thinking. The suppression fire doesnt work to well, i tried at TKA a bunch of times and noticed nothing with the Suppression shot. The 6 ranged def and 2 melee def pts arent that big of a deal either.

Having the 14 points to spend elsewhere is worth a lot more than having this branch of marksman.
