Thread: Pistol Speed = HUGE advantage ???? HELP!

Ok .... I have a Scout Blaster with the following stats:

speed: 2.3

dmg: 50-103

special move costs: 11, 23, 11

My friend has a Scout Blaster with the following stats:

speed: 1.7

dmg 66-127

special move costs: 10, 22, 10

We went hunting on Dathomir last night and I found out that he was getting shots off in a 15:1 ratio. Yes, thats right 15 shots for him vs 1 for me. Why is this? My quickness stat was 3x higher and neither of us had any wounds. He had better armor than me. Just knowing that alone I'd think that I'd get off more shots. Take into account his gun speed and I would think that we'd be about even. But NO !

I'd pound the Attack hotkey 5 times and watch the queue fill up with 5 attacks but 4 of the 5 would immediately disappear without executing and the one left would finally execute 50% of the time. I'd pound out another 10 attacks into queue and 8 of the 10 would disappear without ever executing and then 1 of the next 2 in the queue would execute.

Great .. I did 300 points damage to the target while my friend would amass 3000. His first 15 attacks would go and hit ... then my 1 ...... then 5 more from him .....then my 1.

What gives?!?! Anyone know??

We tried a test with him using a similar gun to mine (almost identical stats) and the fire/hit rate was 1:1.

Can a difference in pistol speed of .6 make THAT much difference?? Help !

I've seen the queue issue before as well, not sure why it doesnt' always execute the entire queue.

with regards to speed..15:1? That's just crazy!

Was he using default attack mode and were you using slow specials? Even with that, I'd venture a guess that he has a far higher skill mod to his Pistol Speed.

Was he the same "rank" as you in terms of pistol speed skill mod? I noticed pistol speed had a HUGE advantage on me vs an unskilled pistol user. More testing is being done on delay/pistol speed, I hope we have answers to this soon/

I believe I have seen a slightly different version of what you are experiencing. As a Doctor/Pistoleer I heal people in combat. To do that i click on them so that they are now my target. When my combat cue is emptied i can apply a stimpack. After I apply the stimpack i once again fill up my attack cue but occasionally it doesnt work. What i do is re-engage the target using the radial menu and selecting attack, or double clickin on the mob. This makes my "target" the mob begins the attack sequence and allows me to once again issue attack commands that work. Sometimes i try using the /assist key on my hotbar to make sure im attacking the creature thats tearing up my friend afterhealing. Try that, its not how the game is supposed to work but it might help. Be sure your target is the mob and not a corpse or the nest if you are engaging multiple opponents.

As a general rule if you are experiencing problems with game play find a relative safe spot, sit down and use the /logout command (and type /disband if your grouped). Stay logged out for 10 minutes to allow time for your avatar to finally poof from the game. If you are grouped ask someone to verify you did finally disappear before you logged back in. For some reason if you stay in a group when you logout the game keeps you longer so be sure to use the /disband command. This fixes most of the annoying little problems and should always be tried before beating your head on the keyboard.

Your quickness stat has no bearing on the speed that you fire at. It determines how much of your action pool is drained each time you use a special.

Jim,

Nope. No special moves. My F9 hotkey is set to /attack.

Well don't jam your regular attack key 5 times. Just hit it once. You hit that to start auto-attacking and the game does the rest. The whole problem here sounds like /attack might have some delay built into it and you are jamming it too many times and suffering through a bunch of delays. I'm not sure why you would hit that more than once.

As for the queue emptying problem, this does not only occur with corpses. If you are trying to double dot a ton of healthy mobs in a row, I frequently notice that my HS1/HS2 are ignored on the new mob. Basically special moves queued to your look at mob are often ignored especially if queued too soon after the switch to the look at mob.I seem to be able to guarantee they won't be ignored by issuing an /attack and then queueing up the Health Shots.

I only skimmed the thread, but as others may have said:

- You only hit "/attack" once. You will continue to do your default attack until your icap'd/dead, your target is dead, it's out of range, or you stop it.

- Was he using any ranged powerup on his pistol?

"My F9 hotkey is set to /attack."

So why are you spamming it? If you're not using specials, you don't have to keep hitting "attack" over and over again. Press it once and you'll fight on automatic until that target is destroyed.

If your using the attack key there is a delay. Second you only need to hit it one time. And it will clear from the que if you try and queue them up. The only time to use the attack key is start combat with it or use it to do a regular shot inbetween specials. If used to do a regular shot inbetween specials you get no delay. But hitting the attack key more then once brings on a delay. Maybe it is looking for a new target.

But as a pistol user you have a style attack that is great for lairs disarm attack 1 seems to do double damage on a lair. I can take most lairs down with 2 hits using it. Some take me three but never anymore.

Thanks all.

I don't know why I was mashing the /attack key. Your explanations make sense.

I have noticed an issue with commands disappearring from the queue. In all instances in my experience, it was due to the fact that my current target was a corpse.

Make sure you tab to switch targets immediatelywhen youdefeat one. Otherwise you may be shooting at something that is attacking you but targeting the corpse. Pressing Esc a couple of times removes the targeting on the corpse. See my example below.

I was in Fort Tusken last night with a group of 8-9 people. I Tabbed to acquire a target but there may have been 3-4 total MOBs. When my targetwas killed, the target box in the upper right corner lists corpse of...

If another MOB attacks me I will auto-attack back, but if I try to queue up several commands the quickly just disappear. I have to hit Esc or Tab to a new target to be able to use the queue.

I understand the concern for my character shooting something that is already dead/gone. It isn't that, but I understand how it could be.

Here's more info:

We were hunting Baz Nitches on Dathomir (exploiting the 9k non heal bug).

  1. My bud and I would both target the lair.

  2. He'd shoot first. As soon as I see his character fire I pound the attack hotkey.

Then I'd watch him do all the work as my character just stands there and does nothing as I hit the hotkey 10 more times. As you can see, the lair wasn't dead before my character "should" have begun shooting. My character does eventually get a shot or two away. It was VERY frustrating because he'd say .... "Nice XP we're getting, huh? 1500!!" And I'd say, "Uh .. no .... I got 150 XP, not 1500!"

It was very frustrating so I asked him to let me do all of the shooting on the next lair.

  1. I targeted the lair.

  2. I hit the Hotkey 5 times.

  3. the first 1-3 in the queue would disappear with no actions being taken.

  4. THEN my character would start ripping out the shots in succession after I queued up another 10 /attacks.

I got 3000+ XP and I killed the lair solo. We split the money.

Like I said, we tried this with him using an almost identical gun (speed and damage) and we both hit at 1:1.

My ping was 112 .... his was 245.

Did you hit the attack key 5 times or were you using special attacks? There may be some delay from pressing /attack.

Another test - line up, target the same nest/MOB, and both hit /attack once only. Watch the combat tab, not the spatial tab. You should see how much damage you do on each attack. Specials can cause delays.
