I'd say you get about 200k xp per hour at the lower levels, probably going up to 300k or more once you get higher up in the trees. So with this in mind, it probably takes you something like 15 hours to get the pistol XP, and a little more to get the remaining ~50k combat XP.
This all assumes you go out there with armor, brandy, doc buffs and a decent sliced DX2 or something. And you probably want to progress from normal quenkers to savage quenkers once you get the first couple of boxes of pistoleer.
Oh my god this was just what i was looking for!!!!!!!!!!!! I printed this thread out....you guys are great. Really rekindled the fires for pistoleer for me...I was feeling a little down about all the complaints I've heard in game and negativity from riflemen about how suckies I am.
I could care less about how others view me, it's not like they are paying for my subscription.
There always seems to be something weirds about whatever profession you use. I was a high level Agent on Anarchy Online, and I remember getting nerfed two and fro every few months. I got used to it, could still hold my own in pvp and pvm and still had fun.
I started the game when the servers went live in US and left, never got ot experience true solo running (or a swoop)....or even quenkers. Now it looks like I will....

Two savage quenker missions, payout of 6800-6900 each. Drive out on swoop, hop off at 65m and go prone. Spam HealthShot1 into first quenker. It will probably die before it sees you and charges. HealthShot1 is x2.0 damage, x1.0 delay. It's the best shot we get till MASTER Pistoleer (better than FanShot, and targetted pool, too). The other one will charge when the first one finally notices you, just blast it apart too, pistol whip it if possible and finish it off with HealthShot1. Go up whatever tree you like--I'd take the Dodge tree first, honestly, because you do not need FanShot unless you plan to take on 2 quenkers at a time (and there's no reason to).
Kill time per savage quenker is 15 seconds for me. It takes them 10 seconds to notice you while prone, and they die before getting to you. At Master Pistoleer (74 speed), HealthShot2 is the best targetted pool, and FanShot is more DPS, but random pool. At +76 speed FanShot caps in DPS, and at +86 speed Stopping Shot caps in DPS, becoming your best single target random HAM. (Actually it's better than Fanshot around +80). This is with a 1.8 delay pistol, by the way.
Anyway, you can do 2 savage quenker missions and be back at the terminal in 10 minutes. Grouped with a pet/mount/droid you get 3900 xp per kill, 6 kills per mission, and 4000 for the lair. Just make it 3900 x 6 and assume you'll get a baby each lair. That's 23400 per mission, and you do two missions for 46800 pistol xp! Now you can do this 6 times an hour, for 280800 xp per hour, and your buffs should last you 3 hours, for 842400 pistol xp off one set of doctor buffs. Since you also raked in an average of 6850 per mission, 13700 per run, 82200 per hour, 246600 credits by the time the buffs fade. Shouldn't be too hard to buy more buffs and brandy.
