Thread: How many of you actually have faith in the CU?

Rehn,

Thanks for your response. I will count you as one in the positive column.

I need to point out something to you. This post is not a dev-hating, curb-bashing,

rant. If you read it this way, you need to read it again. You tell me that I can

feel free to post constructive criticism. Well re-read the post.I had never played any

MMORPGs before I came to SWG. I have no plans in playing any others. I play this one

because I am a Star Wars Fan.You see, since I first saw Star Wars at the age of 9, I wanted

to fight the empire and fly around the galaxy in the Millenium Falcon. I drooled over the

announcement of the prequels and went to see them all on opening night. When I first started

playing SWG, this game was great. Sure it needed fine tuning. But what it didn't need is to lose

the "Star Warsy" feel. By straying from the timeline and making all the melee's the most

uber in the game, it did just that. I agree with you that no-one should ever be able to solo

a krayt. My point is that right now, they can. We can't. The CURB is supposed to make

everything fair. How fair is it now? I see great things happening in the recent publishes.

The devs are listening. I am pleased. My constructive criticism and contribution of the day

to our community is exactly what I have said. If there is to be a game based on Star Wars,

then make it Star Wars. Don't make it EQ or Wow or whatever that just happens to take

place in the Star Wars Galaxies. That isn't right. Let the kids go play EQ and leave this one

to the people who really care.

There have been so many dev-bashing posts in the past I can partially understand why you thought this

was another one. My "negativism" is there to get us somewhere and make us more credible.

Not the opposite.

Thanks, and I will have a nice day

I too have been here since day 1 and I am eagerly looking forward to CU/RB. I love my MP/MBH template and have no desire to change. Just to hear the devs say "....blasters, blasters, and more blasters..." has led me to believe that ranged will once again be the integral fighting class it was when this game first kicked off..

If there is one thing this game has taught me it is patience. I for one feel that my patience will be rewarded!

I vary my position on a day to day basis.

Some days (like today) I think the CURB is going to be absolutely amazing. Of course, that's partly because they showed us some of the new CURB weapons with today's Friday Feature

Other days I'm pretty doubtful. I've been around since the early days (July 2k3, not quite a day 1 guy, but pretty close), so I remember all the pain we've been throuh and it's disheartening.

Most of the time I'm pretty optimistic about it though. I guess only time will tell

I can honestly say that I don't. I've been here since launch. I'm convinced that most of

the devs have never actually watched Star Wars. We all know this timeline isn't supposed

to have Jedi running around in packs everywhere. I never saw any melee fighters in episodes

IV-VI. But still, the devs cater to Jedi and all melee's. Always have, always will. At least that's

my feeling towards it. I just can't get hyped up for another monumental letdown by the devs.

Has anyone been on the tests and can cheer me up about this? Will I actually be able to

survive more than 10 seconds in PVP? Will I actually have a chance at soloing a Krayt?

Hopefully you won't be able to ever solo a Krayt. The CURB is supposed to make that an impossibility for anyone of any profession.

As for lasting in PvP, yes, you should be able to last more than 10 seconds.

I don't know about other people here, but I for one am not a big of the Dev-hating here, and find it rather annoying and discouraging for people to rant about how much the CURB isn't going to fix our problems. Some of us are very hopeful for the CURB and want to help it be the best that it can be. We're here to work for our profession, and help out in any way we can, and this kind of negativism doesn't really fit with that focus.

Please feel free to post constructive criticism, or make helpful contributions to our community. Dev-hating and CURB bashing is neither constructive, nor helpful, and gets us nowhere but less credible.

If you aren't encouraged by the recent publishes, then you may be of the type that is merely unpleasable. The Devs have been working hard for the last while, and the fruits of their labors are showing now. I'm confident that whatever the CURB doesn't fix for Pistoleers, the profession revamps will. I do have a lot of hope in the CURB, and I think that what we have seen in the past couple of months should give everyone hope for its outcome.

Have a nice day.

I've been here since the web site went live (5 years ago?), helped test in Beta 3 and have been enjoying this game ever since. It's never been perfect and never will. However, I have complete faith the CU will make a extremely positive impact in the game. Why do I have faith in this? Well, all you have to do is look at all of the great changes/enhancements that have gone live over the last two months. The Dev's re-commitment shown by adding more staff (sorely needed) and focusing in on getting the game back to a Star Warsy feel have made me a believer. Remember the secret team? I can't wait to see what they have planned for us next

If you love your pistoleer profession so much, why don't you consider dropping those useless BH and Smug lines, and consider taking a melee profession. For someone who loves being a pistoleer, why don't you make your pistoleer stronger with some defences in the TK line, or some fencing lines.

Please remember that quite a few people are "new" on the Dev side....those that didn't start us down the non-Star Warsy path. The management changes and new hires over the past 12-15 months should be showing everybody the renewed commitment by SOE and LucasArts to SWG. And almost all those people are putting food on the table and keeping a roof over their family by making SWG a success....they have incentive enough to make the player base happy, it just takes time fix the many things that went wrong since beta AND not break the many things that are right and good about SWG.

The Combat Upgrade will NOT fix everything, but it is the foundation for which all other changes will be based on the combat side of SWG.....GCW, profession enhancements, etc.

BTW, I was not paid to post this

I dont have any problem with the Dev's support, we the community, are just losing hope in your guys' ability to help us all out. Im sure you hear every profession cry about something wrong, and until "you"(Devs) can silence us all with some uber attachments and weapons we will alwalys whine and cry.

I just noticed this sentence of your post, which I really didn't think much of before. Now that I think on it though, I hope the answer is a resounding, "no." I also hope that no other profession can solo a Krayt, Rancor, or any other creature that is meant to be extremely powerful and feared by a lone player. I'm all for solo content, but I'm very against players being able to solo creatures that are considered legendary in the Star Wars universe for their ferociousness(sp).

He does have a great point. If people can bash me for saying an hoth idea is not in the timeline, so is jedi and TKA. I think we should of started the game post-GCW, because the empire still has about 800 systems under it's wing. The republic just called a truce, and territories where split. I hope combat revamp does something to help my avatar, but the way it looks they are just stalling for more times with these publishes. I really also hope they come out with a enviroment revamp to make the game seem more star wars realistic. Just had to put in my two cents. So, I have 50/50 faith about the revamp, but I do agree it will be a better foundation then what we have now

For the record, I didn't see any 'dev-hate' in your post. It's very possible to question authority without being hateful. Your post reflects that.

Now in response, I hold 50/50 hope . I believe that the devs now want to fix it, I just question whether they can.a fewreasons- one, the QA/QC process quite frankly is a bug in itself. WAY too much gets through in your average weekly update to convince me otherwise. Two, pure speculation, but it is possible that the entirely new combat paradigm might also be flawed. The existing one certainly is, the new one might be a whole new can of worms. Three, the game engine itself. I question whether the engine is capable of increasing firing range (they've stated a desire to do so) from 64m as it exists today.

I am encouraged by the amount of changes recently, and the willingness to respond to the community. I think some game design ideas they have are dumb, but that's neither here nor there. but there's alot of history showing they aren't up to the task. either way, some folks wil never be happy. Me, as long as I can kill or be killed with the same level of skills as other profs, I'll be happy. I just don't want to have to go melee to be a good pistoleer .
