Thread: Disarm Shot = Greif Shot
I can't see anyone being happy with this skill except greifers. I like PvP only when it is not that detrimental to other players. Games that require big death penalties are not fun for me to PvP in because I know what a drag it will be for the other player.
So would I use this skill as a pistoleer? Heck no. It's designed to hurt the condition of the other players gun but a "fix" has been announced. That other player probalby went through a lot to get a good gun equipped and as a former weaponsmith (at one time my character Dink was probably the most advanced weaponsmith (or one of the most advanced)on Chilastra - until I got bored and swtiched. I never had trouble selling guns even when I priced them at incredibly expensive rates. . . my problems always were in lack of supply.
So why make guns more destroyable when weaponsmiths already have trouble meeting demand. It's not a terribly fun class to play and you only need so many millions of credits before the "payoff" of the class becomes meaningless.
Either you would completely destroy the other player's gun making them defenseless and greifing them terribly, or you will only hurt their gun and waste an attack unless your only intention is to greif other players.
I'm totally against this "fix" and hope pistoleers agree.
Imagine this scenario
1. Disarm1 does increased the normal damage to another players gun, possibly destroying. We will be the only class that can outright destroy other players property and people will hate it, will call for a nerf.
2. It gets nerfed so it does decreased damage to another players gun, thus it becomes pretty much worthless like it is already and people will still want it nerfed again.
Eh maybe it will be cool..people wont want to fight us with their better weapons.
SanTsu - I don't expect ad hominum posts from correspondents. Pointing out the negative effects of a skill in a constructive manner with explanations is not "whining". You should expect better of yourself.
The biggest threat of disarm shot is that people will avoid PvP over it because of the greif potential.
I'm not afriad of losing guns that much because I am "wealthy" in game and have a great PA weaponsmith to get pre-sliced master weaponsmith crafted guns from. However, many will avoid PvP if it means other players can create such large amounts of down time for them.
I am VERY afraid of not being able to PvP on a large scale because players are afraid of losing their guns to other players.
If you have suggestions on what DisarmShot should do then I am all ears.
Why not make it a "stun" that makes the other player lose their next attack? When their round comes up they don't do anything but read a message in the combat window saying something like "Your weapon flies from your hand and you quickly to regain it. This would be VERY effective because it would keep one enemy from attacking while the pistoleer got an attack off. Of course the HAM cost would have to be high enough to keep pistoleers from spamming it indefinitely. Maybe take a large chunk of mind so that they can't heal-and-spam.
I agree that maybe they should do some damage this way people will tend to avoid Pistoleers in PVP like many avoind BH in PVP. you shouldnt be able to walk into a PVP fight and think haha I have this so I am (we all know everyone loves this term LOL) Uber. I think all fighting classes should have some kind of special move that will make someone else THINK about fighting them.
However I also like the idea of it just doing what it says and DISARM them put it in their inventory for a set amout of time. They can pick up another weapon but not that same weapon for say 5 seconds or so. The reason I say set amount of time is you can put a weapon on a Hotkey that if you get disarmed just hit say F9 to reeqquip it. So there would be no big use of DISARM.
Before I knew what this actually did and read any posts thats exactally what I thought it ment by the name was it would disarm them. so if I am fighting an NPC that has is shooting me from a ways away if I disarm them they loose their next fight round and it gives me a chance to move in or MOVE OUT.
With that disarm shot at your disposal - you guys won't get many duels in the future.
Speaking for myself... I won't duel anyone anymore because he could have disarm shot. And I don't want to scratch my beloved scatter.
Cheers,
Cut
scatter, pfft. i still wait for the day that pistoleer will get certification for a pistol that will put scatter to shame.
i know it will happen.
Disarm shot should temporarily konk the weapaon out of commission, not damage the condition.
Right now it's not useful in PvP because PvP doesn't last long enough to destroy someone's gun. So it's a possible grief tool and not useful in real combat. So what's the point of this special?
To use the conventional BH form of arguing (not all BHs)
It's to make us uber powerful, because I'm a Pistoleer, and I should be uber powerful. They giv meh Disarm Shoot to take out those **edit** diurty Jedi Biatchis. I men, if the Jedi can run rempvent6 and grierf others players, they need to be contered. I get to blow they **edit** Lightsword up! YO!
Otik - Actually, I have played LOTS of MMOs and can't think of any that allow others to target your gear except for EQ. . . then you don't lose your gear so much as you are required to do a corpse recovery. SWG does that. Can you give examples of PvP in other games that require as much downtime to get back to full capacity as a weapon destroying attack would?
I think the idea that the weapon is temporarily disabled or popped into the inventory is a great idea. Disarming shot 1 would have a lower chance of success than disarming shot 2. I actually think this is a good 'fix' because in a way, it's a weaker knockdown. The opponent can't attack, but they can still run around and heal. Of course, with our fast attack speeds, it's spammable, so it could make for some easy duels. But unlike, KD, the opponent isn't completely helpless and I think that makes a big difference.
