Thread: The Removal of Armor Piercing is a boon to our Profession!

I'm real excited about this change because it just seems like the only way the Devs would truly make mobs more challenging was to set them to Heavy AP (Stated before the release of the game to be reserved for Tanks / Spaceships if shot by a standard blaster...) and stack on tons of ~90% resistances.

Now that AP is going out in favor of ELV (Energy Level Value), our wide variety of pistol choices will certainly give us an advantage that'll make Pistoleer a worthwhile profession again.

All of the other classes with much higher AP weapons will get brought back into line with our damage potential and the CURB will probably also balance their speed so even master riflemen won't be shooting at 1 shot / second unless they've got an entire closet of Rifle Speed enhancers.

I think the next couple of months will be a good time to be a Pistoleer.

Maybe... still I had the chance of reading a devs chat where they said pistoleer wasn't supposed to be a heavy damage dealing profession, so... lets not rise our expectations very high

I read the same message, but if you think about it, removal of AP isn't making us do more damage, it's making the other professions do less. Most Rifles have AP and most Pistols don't. Assumingall professionshave access to a variety of ELVes (Elf rangers, Elf wizards, Elf druids and rogues... j/k) Pistoleers will be better off than they were with AP, since we didn't get anything that did AP Medium or Heavy like the other core combat professions.

Wait guys, that post also says that you can adjust the ELV on your gun, and that different armor types will have specific ELV ups and downs. So before every fight you will need to adjust your pistol to be most effective. I see how it is usefull in the one-on-one fight, but in massive PvP it will be a bummer unless you will carry many pistols set up on different ELVs.

I think the level differential idea is good. It adds a dynamism and a tactical edge to combat - esp large scale skirmishes - sadly lacking as it stands.

well, I already carry several pistols in the hotbar to switch based on damage type, so it's not that much more of a stretch to carry some different ELV settings as well as damage types.

I don't think every weapon will be designed to be able to switch between all (or any) types of energy settings.

From their wording, it sounds like some weapons might be only one or two mode guns, while others might have more...

I carry about 10 pistols with me, no biggie to switch.

Versatility is the Pistoleer's best ally.

I place all my pistols in F-slots on my sixth toolbar pane, and use aliases and macroes to equip my pistols. That saves my first pane for food and specials. I used to have my pistols using up valuable food and special slots on my main toolbar, but now I'm free of all that clutter!

When you say you use aliases, you mean you type a letter and press enter and it switches to pane 6, selects the appropriate slot and then switches back to toolbar 1?

Wouldn't you be better off assigning that to a key via a macro rather than calling the macro via an alias?

I suppose it avoids cluttering your keyboard with macros though.

I use full names for all my macroes so I know what they do when I look at my CTL+A screen. If I type alias, I see all my aliases, and the full name of the action they represent. It's not the most efficient, but it ensures that I don't forget, and it saves me the trouble of checking my CTL+A screen if I do forget. lol

I've got modal chat switched on and all my custom macros bound to the keyboard and mouse.

That way you can just tap out different combos, seeing as I only have 6 useful combat moves as a Pistoleer I put them on 1-6 on the Num Pad.

Here's my macro file that I manually editied if you want to have a nose.

Whatis modal chat and how will it help meunlock?

Seriously, though. I've heard of modal chat, but neverunderstood it. How does it work?
