I know exactly how you feel mate. My first elite profession, BH, a joke. My second, pistoleer, I kept with the BH pistols line, then I though I'd give carbineer a try, again with the BH line. But since dropping master scout and trying the professions "pure" along with other sidelines I quickly found that my two favourite weapon types have no advantages as the devs have lent the inherent advantages of both pistols and machine guns to rifleman.
I have a monster template for pistols and carbine usage that I was going to build, but I vaulted it up until after the combat balance. I personally think you're much better off looking for a profession you can enjoy while we wait an undetermined amount of time for the alleged combat rebalance. Although it was announced to take placeone month after the jedi revamp, there are rumours floating around in game and on chat that it is being delayed like everything else, but until november. The impacts of such a delay may be deadly to pistoleer, with their post combat balance weapon which he can't use. In addition the revamp on jedi is based on post combat balance stats, which means for six months they're either top dogs, or underdogs, but we won't know which until the bodies start dropping.
Until the rebalance I'm going to try out every other combat profession, I'm done with rifleman (which I can say is definitely overpowered by comparison) and the brawlers. I however, am not touching combat medic until it becomes a battlefield healer and not a bio-warfare specialist. My server is run by headshots and mind dots and I have no interest in further polluting my server with the "click and kill" method to PvP

I don't think Pisotleer is a great primary combat skill, but combined with other lines I think it can be an effective suplement to a melee class (which in some ways is logical). I'm working my way up it for the simple reason I've wanted to since the game came out. But it will not be my primary combat class. I am just so sick of seeing combat medics and the Riflemen templates. Like some else said it seems to dominate a lot of pvp. I would prefer to do something a bit different rather then pollute the server with another copycat flavor of the month template.
That's what I'm doing. Right now, I'm gonna master TKA and I might go smuggler for the specials, still not sure. I might also go TKAM and Rifleman. It seems like Melee and Ranged Defense does do some good and Pilstoleer doesn't have very much of that at all, even with master marksman. Plus I hear that rifleman is getting nerfed in the "combat revamp" with running penalties and a speed nerf. That brings me to the purpose of this thread.
