Thread: Wepps resigning from BH Correspondant.
I won't debate at all to know if he was a good person or not, I have my own idea. All I can say is that he was a VOLUNTEER that agreed a huge responsability and he mainly harvested more frustration. I'm affraid most of correspondant are on the same boat (except maby 2 or 3 that are listened ?).
Btw, I trully think it is a sad news.
Good luck to next BH correspondant.
I gave Wepps a chance at the beginning but he went psycho on us.
There 3 pinnacles of correspondent screw ups in my opinion due to the exposure I've had. The first is Jaegen88 asking for holsters and twirly moves. Anyone who has any experience of any sort in project management knows that when you start asking for extraneous eye candy in any sort of project, you've just signed the dotted line that says "There's pretty much nothing else wrong." Yes, the correspondent position is a project management like position. You're trying to herd the devs to do what customers (us) wants. The second is SanTsu's declaration that smuggler profession sucks in combat because he got beaten by dizzy. I don't need to say more about that. The third is Wepp's infamous proposition that medical skills be given in Investigation.
After composing myself from the fit of laughter that ensued, I moved Wepps' name into the fruitcake column.
Wepps was a great correspondent for the bounty hunter profession because he embodied their desires to be the most uber; I spent 217 skill points so I deserve to win against everyone else. He bought into and tried to sell that idea. He represented bounty hunter well. Sadly, his crusade to better the profession failed miserably because he tried taking on too many issues at once.
My suggestion to Philosopher and all the other correspondents is if there are problems (plural), pick one (singular) and focus in on it. Get that one fixed before moving to the next one. Wepps stretched himself and the bounty hunter community across so many issues that their collective voice was greatly diluted. The best thing a correspondent can do is to unify their community into one voice focused in on one issue. A room full of people saying different things is noise. A room full of people saying the same thing is a message.
It appears there is not even any reply on their forum (like ours btw)...
Hell, Philosopher still don't have access to TC, isn't that relevant ? They simply DON'T CARE about those PLAYERS that help them to fix the game...
I don't think it's SOE's place to tell correspondents how to present things. Everyone does their own thing slightly differently. Personally, I believe strongly in the focused message methodology. For example, SOE messed around with experimentation and retreated when the artisan uproar came up. It was flawed and they didn't realize the flaw either.
You're absolutely right there's no data sheet for bug reports or wishes. I think this is where an effective, skilled, and wise correspondents steps in and creates one. The list should be prioritized and the community that it affects should target specific issues with the devs to correct. For example, master pistol moves suck or is simply broken. Let's fix that.
A planned progression whereby the parties involved agree with each other that certain issues will be addressed one in each patch should move everyone closer to a bug free skill tree much quicker. By assuring that within each patch, the devs look at one box of some skill tree this assures that within each patch, every profession moves closer to being perfected. Sure, it'll take 16 months but that's better than the schedule we have now which is simply no plan to progress. Right now it's a haphazard reactive plan instead of a clearfully thought out progression. At least it seems that way on this side of the business transaction.
Sorry, but the BH's did that.Agreed on one major problem(White Marks..)
Guess what...It's worse than ever..
No, the BH did not do that. The BH got split between investigation, Eye Shot being moved, LLC damage, pistoleers out doing their damage, their issues with other professions 1 shotting people, and can bounty hunters take on Jedis.
Take a look at what the Teras Kasi folks are getting done for their profession. We had 2 practically useless skills. One of which gave us 50% mind wounds and the other one has no practical application anywhere. Their was enough unity to bring focus in on the mind wound issue that we got it turned from mind wounds to buffing mind at no wounds. And with the upcoming death/decay system the force of will actually stands a good chance at saving us from dying should we be incapped.
Why is it that the only time I can find a good discussion on one class versus another is in Bounty Hunter and commando? The only other recent time I've found a post about class X versus class Y is in carbineer when they were comparing damage between carbines and pistols.
deadnewbie I agree with most of what you say (pinches self
).
Let's divide Wepps' presenatitons into4 categories, bugs, bad fixes, bad skillsand wishes.
On the bug side, devs had all of the issues regarding investigation (25 in all I think) for months. The only feedback we have had is that in the next publish (past December) they would increase money and experience for bounty missions, no word on fixes.
Bad fixes IMHO is the carbine HAM issue, in order to fix KD spamming thye increased carbine HAM costs across the board, this didn't work so they put in the timer, but the carbine HAM costs basically prevent me from using a carbine for anything other then status changes, and that with a DH-17 at best. I can't even use my marksman carbine skills without hurting myself due to HAM cost, Let alone the BH carbine line, so for all practical purposes a third of my weapon skill lines is bonked.
Bad skills, bleeding shot is worthless. It does very minimal damage and bleed is negligible in duration, fastblast is great idea in that it damages all 3 pools, but again with minimal damage (300 PvE per HAM). LLC cone 2 is great, but HAM costs that exceed even the carbines. I think considering the effort it takes to master BH, the specials should mean something.
Wishes, well here I agree with you, the med skills, changing LLC to rifle etc., should not even have brought on the table until the other issues were taken care of UNLESS the devs were asking for future enhancements for planning purposes AND other professions were getting enhancements. I can see the medical thing though, CMs got terrain negotiation and burst run efficiency AND they have skill points to spare for scout. So, I can kinda understand the thinking that came with it, especially at this point there is really NO benefit to doing investigation except for showing everyone that you lack in common sense
.
As far as Wepps approach, well I think the one shot kill screen shot thing was a bit over the top. He also might have gotten extremely frustrated with the perceived/real lack of feedback from the devs.
A lot of the frustration comes from dealingwith SOE. We have had patches that broke more things then the fixes (TEF building issues, PvP lag, last publish debaucle). Patch notes have been sporadic, inconsistent and contained outdated information. Patches have included stealth nerfs that people weren't even aware of (eg. 2.5x melee modifier for heavy weapons). Bugs that have broken whole professions were not addressed (chef food bug) for months, while rushing for new content (dewback noises, player cities, mounts etc.)
I can see a correspondant that has to deal with all of that and also with his community, be discouraged. Hopefully TH (who has been here 3-4 weeks now) can open the conduit to the devs, and be responsive in getting the communication going both ways. We know bug fixes/develepment take time, and I'd rather wait a bit longer then rush broken content and fixes through. But I would like to know that things are getting addressed, the priority and schedule. It is all about communication.
After composing myself from the fit of laughter that ensued, I moved Wepps' name into the fruitcake column.
Agreed. The guy had a few screw loose.I disassociated myself from the BH community mainly because of him. The guy is a total psycho-DP
Who is to blame, the nutbar leading the parade, or the parade following the nutbar? Hopefully the next guy will focus on BH issues and leave the rest of us out of it.
/pity the next guy.
About the carbine and HAM thing ...
Seriously, you guys should look into getting some spice for combat purposes. Yes, spices have downer. I'm notorious on Sunrunner as the 10 minute PvPer. I fight for 10 minute. Deal with downer for 2 minute. Back in the action for 10 more minutes.
It takes a little getting used to and a little planning but in the end, I don't use heals anymore. I just use spice and armor.
