Thread: Fan Shot: Getting it to work more often.

Yesterday I had a full days use of Fan Shot after Levelling in the morning (3344). To me it was just an Full Charge Shot with less variance damage so that it consistently did damage in the 600-1K-ish area.

Then later on.....

1 Fanshot spammed this on my Combat Menu:

Fan Shot does 600dmg to X

Fan Shot does 450dmg to X

Fan Shot does 700dmg to X....

It happeneda few times, but what I want to know is:
How do I get this triple shot to happen 80-90% of the time?

If I can get this triple shot predictably working 90% of the time then its definately worth it to keep it ina hot key. If its just a lottery shot with no way to predict when it will triple-shoot, then its not worth it.

It's a cone effect. Be careful you'll end up aggroing mobs far away you don't usually want to mess with though.

Anyway, it's a cone effect, not sure what the angle is, but if there are 3 savage quenkers running at you you can fire it and it will hit all three. I used it as my main shot for leveling once I was Techniques 4.

Not sure of the angle of effect, but it is certainly capable of hitting more than 3 enemies at once. I cleared the Imp/Gungan battlefield the other day in a matter of seconds using fan shot. The main thing seems to be to make sure that your targets are reasonably close together and all within your direct line of sight.

Picture a cone in front of you, a small one, and aim for things that way out to 64 meters. It is great.

otherwise you are saying the one shot hit the same thing three times.

It's definately a cone effect, less than 45 degrees i would guess. if your enemies are spread out try to flank them so that the line up or closer to it. You should see more hits registering in your combat window.

As far as I can tell it was 1 target.

I will test according to what you guys have said. Should be easy to test with 2-3 natives attacking my pet or something.

This shot should hit the same target multiple times as described, not multiple targets. That's what the master pistoleer area shot is for. This is something that's always bugged me about pistoleer. This shot and many others don't work correctly yet people seem to think they do lol. Stopping shot should knock the target down as well in my oppinion. I'm hoping the combat revamp will make pistoleer a viable profession to have once again. I've done basicaly all the professions in the game and pistoleer is now and always will be my favorite profession.

The devs used to complain that there were too many pistoleers, but the way it is now there's hardly any pistoleers from what I've seen. I don't care if they need to hire more developers on a temporary basis. Get more people on the current game and get it fixed while we are still waiting on the JTL.

Nope, fanshot is an AoE shot. It does hit (or at least is supposed to) enemies in a cone area. It's the reason you dare not use it in places like the geo cave, because the shot passes through walls and can bring half the enemies down on your head. The master shot, "Multitarget pistol shot", doesn't use a cone, but rather is supposed to hit everything that's an enemy all the way around you (full 360 degrees) within 32m. The MTPS however is rather bugged, more so than Fan shot.

If Fanshot is indeed hitting a single target three times in one shot, then it's a new feature to the special, be it intentional or not.

I have never paid much attention to the combat pane, but fanshot definately does work, as everyone mentioned out in a cone in front of you.

I'm not sure if it lists all 'hits' in the combat info, but it does show above the creature/NPC's toon. If you can get them to stand in a line or small group (ie. storm troopers ), you can mow them down with ease and have them all drop close to at once.

Its close to useless if the mob is surrounding you (then multi-target helps, but you need to be aware of lairs close by, you'll start popping out more creatures).

it's a 20 degree cone effect and on the first shot, agros everything in the field that are not in combat and damages your target

after the first shot, it will deal damage to all targets that are agroed

These guys have done a great job of explaining it, but here's a visual aid. It sometimes pays to watch the radar rather than the main action when using fanshot when you are trying to keep a good cone going.
