Thread: Our next 19 questions for TH (submitted on the 15th)
Many Pistoleers feel that their attacks are generic. Vanilla random HAM is a big issue. How do the developers intend to "spice up" the profession, in the near and distant future?
This round of questions is getting long in the tooth, so “it’s coming in the Combat Balance” is a busy answer, but it is the truth. One of the main parts of the Combat Balance is to examine all of the specials and make them fun and interesting. Beyond that, on a currently unknown timeline, Pistoleers and Fencer’s will be getting Duel Wield abilities and that’s uber-spice
Pistoleer is a professionfacingsome pretty challenging problems. We've been told that the Combat Balance aims to fix a lot of these problems. Can we look forward to sweeping changes (revamped specials, added functionality, speed, significant number tweaking, etc), or primarily only basic bug fixes?
You can look forward to sweeping changes in terms of functionality, speed, etc. But again, I stress, we talk about this topic a great deal in a conceptual form. The rubber is going to meet the road when we bring the correspondents and other players onto the Combat Balance Sandbox server. When that happens, we’ll be able to ask all the important questions and make changes based on the answers as opposed to all this nebulous discussion (which is a result of asking specific questions before specific data is available. All I can communicate this point are goals).
By the way, TH told Fencers that dual wield would come at some point after JtL. I'd be wary of asking anything about dual weild because it is so far off, and we have the CB between now and then. It's hard to even discuss without knowing more about what combat will be like at that point.
So, keeping all of this in mind, what would you like our next question to be?
EDIT: Polls are closed. I will open up a new poll after we get our answer for this question. You can read our question this week here.

What is the intended role of pistoleers?
This is a great question that many of us have suggested for our 19 answers, and yet it has been asked. Direct it to, "what do the devs see as the pistoleer roll? And does this roll go along with the majority of the community based on the "Pistoleer, Combat Roll" thread that was up 2 months ago?
Also, it has been said from Fan Fest that 1. the speed formula is going in the trash. 2. They are still keeping the Pool specific attacks, but they will be much less effective, by lower accuracy. This is for all combat professions.
With those two points in mind I would like to know just how they plan to make the different combat professions different and unique enough? In particular, what are "some" of the "ideas" on the table right now to make pistoleer unique after the CB?
Personally I am very curious if a speed factor is implemented...meaning the heavier the weapon you carry, the slower you can run.
This would mean fast to slow
melee: TK->fencer->pikeman/swordsman (SW should be slower when equiping a powerhamer)
ranged: pistol > carbine > rifle/commando (again depending on which weapons is equiped, somthing like this: pistol >LP > carbine > light rifles > LLC/RL > FT >heavy rifles> heavy weapons)
In short, assign a "weight" factor to each weapon, decreas/multiply/whatever you speed with that))

What is the pistoleer's intended role in the game, and can we expect to see that role changes with the combat balance?

I personally see Pistoleer as a more techinical profession than its elite ranged counterparts... with high speed, low damage, area effect (as in everything wthiin 64m, not cone AoE) and lots of directable state changes, not ones that sometimes stick if you performa certain special attack. I'd like to know it the devs share a similar vision.
This ex almost exacty like I think pistoleer should be
- fast (high fire speed)
- mobile (best when moving)
- useful but not the best in all situations (all or nearly all damage types)
question : since the pistoleer profession is limited to ap-1 weapons and hence are rendered useless in high end pve , shouldnt the trade off be a comparative advantage in pvp compared to other professions ?
or
question: can the developers just acknowledge the fact that as things stand pistoleer is probably one of the weakest professions in high end pve and pvp ?
