Thread: Rogue or Trickshot?
I'm in the need of some good ranged skills to help kitting in pvp. I only have enoughskill points left over to get one more elite ranged profession tree- from pistoleer or smuggler.. I have basically decided to go with either, Rogue or Trickshot. To help deal with this kitting issue during pvp, I've decided I needed some type of ranged knock down. I know the Smuggler's-dirty fighting tree(rogue) has low blow and that is suppose to be a ranged kd, but I'm not sure ifPistoleer's-(trickshot) treehas a ranged knock down at all.. does it? Is stopping shot a kd? My main reason for getting a ranged skill is for a ranged kd of some type, but having other valuable skills in the same tree might be more benifical than simply having an entire profession tree just for a ranged kd. I just need opinons on which skill tree I should go and why? Any benifits one skills tree has over another would also be good to know. thanks alot.

If the defenses ever work, Trickshot might be a very valuable line of skills to get.
But right now, Rogue wins hands down.
Stopping Shot does 5x damage and is slow, Last Ditch does 6x damage plus a Stun effectand is even slower.Both are the big shot of their respective line. Honestly, you could probably use either one and be fine.
I have to say that Fan Shot from Trickshot is one of my favorite attacks. A ranged AOE that does great damage? Sign me up! In a group situation, this can make everyone's life much easier. As a soloist evrsus another group, this can help you take down a group much faster than would otherwise be possible. This shot is simply great in group PVE, assuming you are strong enough to hold off what are sure to be a few aggros. The tricky part is knowing when it's a good shot to use and when it'll get you killed - as an AOE shot, you can hit other targets that are normally peaceful, who will charge you if you shot them. That's the only true trickshot in the line, as far as I'm concerned.
There is no other shot in the Trickshot line that's worth using. Not even occasionally.
On the contrary, Rogue has Low Blow (a ranged knockdown which is great...if it hits and is not resisted), Panic Shot (a ranged delay shot which is great...if it hits and is not resisted; oh, and Panic Shot is AOE, too, so watch where you use it - don't aggro peaceful targets near an enemy of you'll be under attack from more than you can handle), and Feign Death (which gives you an escape valve from PVE combat).
I have both lines. I know that ifI had to surrender one, it would not be Rogue. Rogue is one of THE keeper lines regardless of anything else I do in SWG. If I were to start a new character on another server, I think I'd pick up Rogueas soon as possible. It has turned into my go-to skilltree, and I love everything about it.
I hope one day Trickshot is reallyworth something more than two good shots (Fan Shot and Stopping Shot), but at this point it's anybody's guess when the state defenses will work properly. Until that day, it's really only good if you don't have the great Smuggler or BH shots, want the AOE damage shot from Fan Shot,or want to climb up to Master Pistoleer to get nice speed and accuracy bonuses.

Y? umm try and KD a pistoleer with +50 to KD, you wont unless you are a Master Pistoleer.
I had BH Pistol 4 + DF 4, and I couldnt Low Blow a Pistoleer with Trickshot line.
Well, true, it may be hard to kd a pistoleer.. but what would help me be able to kd them better using the low blow skill? I mean, it's not like smuggler has any other pistol skills that would help make it's kd more effective..

I disagree wholeheartedly. The BH line is easily the most powerful. Smuggler is not really that powerful without pistol speed to back it up.
Pistol stances line is up there in "the most powerful" category. Speed is still the end all stat for dps. With the BH line of course you get speed, moves, and accuracy.
Smuggler line really isnt very powerful without accuracy and speed from pistoleer tree to back it up. And to compare it to the other 2 pistoleer lines for power ignores their benefits which are largely defensive. rollshot+stances 4 will way out damage last ditch without the stances line (actualy from my tests it outdamages last ditch with the same speed before hitting cap).
In the end smuggler line is *in line* with other pistol trees for its position and xp requirement. With absolutely no pistol or defensive mods, it should have some of the most powerful stand-alone moves. Ranged KD (with an accuracy penalty I'm pretty sure), panicshot is hands down the best move in the tree, much better move for pvp than lowblow, and last ditch ... not the most powerful pistol move but the hardest hitting. Really only useful if you are at the cap which you wont be unless you go master pistoleer or BH/pistoleer. Otherwise fanshot is much better.
From the original posters request: I think the smuggler pistol line would work out best. But use lowblow sparingly, dont depend on it. Depend on panicshot.
