Well I made Ace and just recently got my Oppressor.
Now because of it's better mass I loaded a whole bunch of nice stuff into it, an Engine with 70 Speed with 69 YPR.
Yet it flys like a Slug. It's so slow moving and turning I can't keep on Z-95s in Deep Space. It seems to take it awhile before it will move in the direction I want it so my fire is always off. I'm just baffled given it's slow reaction time how anyone can shoot anything in it. Granted it's ok when I'm at about half speed, but then I'm too slow. I didn't think there could be such a big difference. Am I'm doing something wrong or could it be I have a real bad chassis or something.
Wasn't there suppose to be some heavy Mass TIE Adavance. Cause I can't stand the lack of manuverability the Oppressor has. I'm not sure why so many Imperial Pilots are flying one, cause I would say while the extra mass may let you put in the stuff you want you can't manuver at all.
If this is what the Oppressor is like I'm glad I never flew the Bomber. I dunno maybe I need time to adjust.
Guess I'm just a little mad cause hordes of Fighters I could take on in DS Are pounding me. A-Wings were annoying before, but the only time I can hit them is when they start making those long strait runs in my Opressor.
Any adivce?

At minimum you should be using a lvl 8 engine with PYR 75+. With the mass of an Oppressor you could probably fit a Lvl 10 with 80+YPR quite nicely.
Is that going to make the Oppressor a ballet dancer? Heck no. But high 60s PYR engine ain't going to cut it in this rodeo cowboy.

The reason a lot of vet players fly an Opp is simple. For it's mass, it does have a lot of maneuverability. But, it will not handle like any of the other TIEs. The trick is to find the "sweet spot" for speed/maneuverability. For the Opp, that lands at about 60-65% throttle. Once you hit that, you'll be turning circles around anything. The other thing to note is the very low top speed on your engine. I won't put an engine in my Opp without it being at least 90-94 speed. That way, running EO4, I'm sitting close to 800 speed at 65%. Once you stick an engine in there that has a much higher top speed, and preferably something with 74+ PY, you'll really start to appreciate just what the Opp can do. Will it ever handle like an Interceptor/Advanced? Nope, but it will definately pack a lot more of a punch then either.

Stick a 116+ speed engine in it, always use engine overload 3 or 4 and you'll like flying the oppressor just fine. Imperial pilots' next best options would be jsf or rgt, imo...

A T/O just requires a different flying style, but its not that big of an adjustment.
Make yourself two throttle macro/hotkeys. One for 40% throttle, the other for 65% throttle.
A T/O handles about like a krayt or Firespray, and has the smallest profile of any master level ship. And if you put the RE time into it, will be a work of art deadly in PvE and PvP alike.
Ditch that 70 speed engine. You need a 92+ speed, 70+ YPR engine in this ship. Work it right and were talking an L10 paired with an L8 gun, L8 shield, L8 engine, and three missle launchers (MK III proton/concussion or MK II IR's)
Kit it out right, and put the stick time in, and you'll come to love the ship. Comparing a T/O to a T/A is like comparing an A10 Warthog to an F16 Falcon.

It's one of my better engines actually. I've never seen an Engine with more than 70 YPR. Never.
My fastest Engine is 79 so...
Where do you get such Engines? I can't seem to loot anything worth a damn in Space anymore.
Speed isn't to important as long as my Max is 800 or so. Manuverability is my number one thing.

Re engineering.
Long story short, for an L8 engine, you loot eight different L8 engines. You get a master SW to stick them all in his RE tool, and you get a single engine using the best stats of all engines involved.

To put it simply unless youve been extremely lucky and got a one in a million loot drop or have done nyms starmap quest you wont be able to find a high speed engine. 90ish is what you can expect from a looted lv10 and a bit less from a lv8 somewhere around 80-85. Still both are better than youre current one so theres definately room for improvement.

I just picked up crafted Mark IV engines that have a speed of 100 from a local vendor. If I were you, I'd go shopping. Compare Mark IV gear with what you have. I bet with your Opp's mass you can totally outfit it with Mark IV stuff. If you have a looted component that's better, keep it, of course. For everything else, flush it and buyMark IVstuff. You shouldn't pay more that 100k to oufit it with Mark IV stuff. Except for missles, maybe.
The Opp is going to be your best single-man heavy-hitter because it's not the barge that the bomber is, and it's mass isn't TOO much less. But if you're looking for a dogfighter, get the Heavy TIE, Royal Guard Interceptor, or the Jedi Starfighter. Note: The heavy TIE will be more nimble, but slightly slower. The Heavy is also craftable, which means that it's replaceable. All three of those ships have about the same mass. Your Jedi will fly similar to the Heavy, but it can carry two guns. It also has a MUCH smaller hitbox. The Royal Guard Interceptor is super-speedy, but less nimble. It also (right now) has a very small hitbox. I say "right now" because I've heard it's a bug.
Now that you're an Ace, you should get an Opp, a Royal, a Jedi, a Heavy, and a Decimator. With ROTW you can hold all five of those.
TK, I totally feel your pain. I'm not yet an Ace for the very reasons that are frustrating you now. I couldn't take on ANYTHING for months. Then I discovered that most of my components (all looted) put out Tier 2 power and effectiveness with Tier 4 mass requirments. Once I went shopping I totally loved space again. It was like my first day in JTL for fun factor. Sometimes, you just have to compare your gear with stuff in vendors and on the bazaar. For me, the only things that I kept were boosters and capacitors and droid interfaces. Everything else was no good. Also, spend a couple hours browsing the FAQ and other stickies here. There's SO much wisdom on this board! And when you know what you're doing JTL is amazing. But if you're working with crap gear, it's a nightmare.

Crafted engines are getting much better. I can pump out some level 7s with 90+ speed and near-70 YP, but they are nothing compared to a good RE'd level 8. Definately do Nym's quest for a good base engine to start with, then just keep hording all the engines you can find. Stop a shipwright once you have them and tip him nicely. Should be able to make something sweet out of them.

Leaph, what is your facination with the T/A anyway? You keep advertising it for some reason.

Does it count if I have a facination with them too? Enough mass to pack a level 9 quickfire and a level 8 engine/shield, plus that kind of maneuverability and small hitbox. What more can you ask for?
