Well, been playing ground game since launch with a break in the middle, but just got the expansion. I was curious if anyone could recommend a good ship to start with that doesn't require any pilot skills, just something to get me started. I appreciate the help.

if youve been playing sience laucnch you should have the sorrosub yacht, its the only ship that does not require pilot skills( pilot skills are free though so i dont see why you woudent have them) after that after you train in a squadren you will have access to its starter ship

Well , as a vet you already have a space yacht. That will let you travel.
All the beginner ships are pretty much the same stats, with the only discernable difference being gun placement and faction.

Yes, I did get the yacht, I just wasn't aware it could be used for anything other than transportation. Thanks for info.

Noteworthy that the Sorosub can't shoot or anything combative. But it's more then enough just enjoy scenic space.

Dunelizard is a really good ship you can get really early on as a Privateer Pilot. Get certed for it 1/0/0/0 Privateer, good balalnce of speed and manuverabilty, has two gun slots and almost 90k of mass.
I used mine all the way up to 4/3/3/3 when finally switched up to a Rhix.

The Dunelizard is by far the best starter ship, blending 85-87k mass with twin projectile mounts. The Heavy Syck comes in handy in the later tiers where adding beefier shields and armor can come in handy, but nothing beats strapping twin .650+ L5s onto a Dune - then switching to an L7/L6 combo in T3 and soloing it.

Damn that sounds like a lot of information I know nothing about at this point. I imagine this will become common knowledge shortly after I get going. So where is the best place to find a Dune Lizard? Is this being sold by players?

Dunelizards are player-made ships and have a usage level of 1000, the same as the Heavy Syck.
The Heavy Syck is a tad more maneuverable, but it lacks the second projectile mount. It has the same usage requirement as the Dunelizard, yet it's far more expensive, as it uses asteroid resources.

Thanks or information, I will have to start looking around for this ship. So you can purchase and add whatever weapons you want after the ship is purchased?

And BTW I just wanted to comment on how helpful your comments have been. Much more help than I have found in other profession forums.

Usually if you don't ask for stupid things like FS XP conversion or ask that provisions be made for EVERYONE because YOU can't specifically do something thousands of others have done before you, then yeah, this is a pretty friendly forum.
