So I was just cruising through the FAQ's comparing ship masses and such. Now the TIE Oppresor is around 170k mass. Not too bad in my opinion. Much more than my Advanced and a good 50k higher than my Aggressor. A nice upgrade IMO.
So then I noticed that the BWing has 4 weapon slots, 2 torpedo slots, and around 240k mass! WOW!!!! Now that is pretty spiffy IMO. Well, my character is Imp and always has been and always will be.. so I won't be flying a BWing for quite sometime.. hehehehehe...
So, just curious, Rebel Ace's, how do you like the BWing? I'm pretty sure it's not the most manuevorable thing you have but I am curious.
In my case, the TIE with the most mass is the Bomber, followed by the Oppresor, Aggresor, Advanced, Intercepter... and down the line from there. I like my Aggresor a lot right now but am looking forward to the increase in mass on the Oppresor.

I love my b-wing..now. When i first got ace i tried it out and thought it was the worst thing ever in the history of flying, but my views(and tactics)have since changed. It takes a special kind of flying to compensate for the massive amount of fishtailing that this monster does, plus i never fly without cap, weapons, and engine overload any more.

I work for a rebel guild, although I'm a Freelance pilot myself. Ive been noticing that as the guild members master pilot, they have been passing around the b-wing deed. Most of them try it out, then quickly re-deed it and go back to the y-wing. I'm sure someone will figure out how to fly it and keep it. But so far it has been really unpopular.
It seems that the b-wing is the one true bomber in the game. Very poor manuverability, but it can pack a huge payload.

The B-wing is great for bombing runs, otherwise it hadles like a sloth. If I saw you in an Opressor, I am running home to get in my Awing. Most likely a B-wing will only beat an Opressor if the B gets in the first 'sucker' punch with all weapns linked and your shields low. Otherwise the Oppressor will fly circles around the B-wing.

The "B"rick-Wing is a gun heavy sloth. She's good for straight on strafing runs on the 'Vette and she packs quite a punch. However, unless you've got fighter support then you are dead in the water once the escorts jump you. It's a mission specific type of craft... not something you would want to go dogfighting with.

well, the b-wing should handle like a brick....you only have the heaviest components there is in the thing......I never did like the b-wing myself.....but after flying the a-wing and x-wing and seeing how fast they get destroyed because they don't have the mass to carry good shields (you need at least 2500 shields after tier 3).....but if you put those heavy shields on either the a-wing or the x-wing...you'll have to sacrifice either engines or weapons and I don't like sacrificing these two...need my weapons to kill fast and need my engines for the goodPYR.
In my opinion, speed is not important for the majority of JTL.....but PYR is very imortant and since the b-wing is the worst of all craft in this departement, it really is only good for bombing runs....matter of fact the very last tier 4 rebel mission in vortex squadron is to protect the flanks of some b-wings that are on their way to do a bombing run on a imperial space statinon in dathomir system....see they can't even protect themselves with all that firepower they carry.
Hopefully the devs will put some more content in the game that calls for the use of the b-wing.....seriously, a-wings should get torn to shreads when attacking a SD.
matter of fact, I don't think that all ships should use the same components...but that's another discussion.

Agree with the above...it handles like a Lead Zeppelin...thats what I call mine. she is definately mission specific, but with a good loadout..ie 4 level 7 guns, 2 mark 4 or mark five missiles, heavy shields, engine, etc....you can withstand tremendous punishment. I have learned flying this thing is very much about have weapons, engine and reactor overload commands. They are essential. She is quite difficult to handle, but a good ship for things like the ISD or Corvette. I also take her on Tier 4 and Tier 3 missions with some of my guildies who are at those tiers...I shoot everything once so it aggroes on me, and it frees the lower level guy up to kill ships and get xp, etc etc
I WON'T be re-deeding this ship

Redeeming part about the b-wing is it can blow up ANYTHING very quickly, i've destroyed corvettes and SD very quickly with it nice way to get faction, not very good against anything fast.

Flying the B-wing was one of the main attractions of mastering the Alliance Pilot profession for me. Along with the 'cool' factor of flying Ackbar's baby, the ability to mount 4 projectile and 2 missile weapons seemed to make it the perfect ship for PVE.
The reality is that it handles like a nightmare the first time you fly it but you can tame it with practice. With EO3, the B-wing is almost bearable but still has the massive inertial that causes oversteering. It took around 10 hours working on tier 1 TIE spawns before I was able to control it to my satisfaction.
I don't fly my B-wing any more though - I discovered that a Firespray handles so much better (for PVE, of course) that it's worth sacrificing 2 projectile mounts. I still have the 2 Mark III Spacebomb launchers and I'm still the biggest target in the zone (except the Ixiyens of course) but I now can hold my own against tier 5 TIEs with ease.

I could have written the last post myself
I just gave my deed to a guildie as I haven't flown it since I got my Firespray. It was fun at first, more of a novelty. It was good for taking on the corvette but in most cases it was more frustrating than useful. I kinda wish that my FS had one more weapon mount though. That would just put it over the top as the best all around fighter/bomber in the game IMO, if it doesn't already hold that distinction.

I love my B-wing. I I use it as my multirole ship, and I find new ways to load it out, or ways to squeeze new levels of performance from it regularly, if not daily. It's a little akward at first, but well worth the effort to learn the in's and out's of the "B". The only thing I would not try with this ship is one on one PVP. I think it'd be next to impossible to manuever effectively against a human pilot flying anything mid sized or lighter.

I'm among the school of those who don't like it.
(By the way, what kind of flying do you do that requires you to have 2500 shields? I've been equipped with 1300/1700s since I got my X-wing and have never thought it wasn't enough.)
I didn't like the A-wing, either...too light a payload. Right now my craft of choice is the X-wing, mounted with two cannons, decent shields, and a prenerf 92 speed engine. On occassion, when I'm feeling a bit odd, I'll break out the Z-95, equip it, and head out to find some Tier 4 stuff to blow up...but then again, I'm a bit crazy.
Next time Starsider has a big battle I might take the Z into it...
The B-wing has a great payload (one-shot Tier 4 stuff easy), but its complete lack of maneuverability just doesn't appeal to the pilot in me. Similarly, I dislike the Y-wings. Nope, X-wing is the way to go (as far as I'm concerned).
