Thread: BWing Mass... How well do you Reb's like this ship?

As an Imperial Pilot my only option is to eventually save up 6million or more to spend on a Firespray. I haven't mastered yet so I can't say that I've flown the Oppresor or the Decimator yet. BWing in my opinion sounds like a flying tank and handles like one too. The loadout on that thing is off the hook though!

Don't get me wrong, I love the ships I have now but I must say you guys are not in that bad of a spot. You get all the iconic ships (may start a rebel on Bria just for that!) in addition you get to go after the Star Destroyer (we get to take out a generic looking Rebel Base). My reasoning for starting this post is that in many ways I envy the Rebel pilots and even the nuetrals right now. Not saying Imp isn't viable or any whiney "NERF the BWing" stuff.

The player owned BWings I have seen looked pretty sweet.

im a rebel master pilot and i like the longprobe much better than the bwing. the guns are close so you hit with both of them, and you at least have half way decent handling.

the imps get the tie-opp which handles better than the lp and is a smaller target. freelance pilots get the rhix and the new krayt. the krayy blows me away, its got just 30k less mass than the bwing, yet it handles at least three times better (ypr at 100 instead of 30) and the guns are a bit closer in. you say its good for the vette but i disagree. my awing has soloed intire vettegroups countless times. with the bwing you will have a very tough time with the ties. the awing can do the ties and the vette with ease providing the pilot knows what he is doing.

now im not really complaining since all i ever fly is my awing anyway, but i think that us rebs are pretty screwed in the heavy fighter dept. of course we do get the best light fighter in the game though so we cant really complain.

im in love with my awing, theres nothing she cant handle, which that is really the main reason that i dont like the bwing; theres nothing the bwing can do that my awing cant, but there are things that the awing excells at where the bwing is terrible.

so the rebs get a xwing thats average at everything, a bwing thats good at one thing and terrible at everything else, and the awing that is great agianst anything you throw at it.

traveling at 1300 without boost and turning on a dime in an awing > anything the bwing can do

awing is far superior against ships and in pvp

bwing can.. uh.. have missles... ooh...

Ahhhh. But can an A-wing: travel at 1015, while sporting 2500 shields and weaps capable of dealing 14-23k dmg *per volley* sporting 24k spacebombs, and 800 HP armor? I think not. "Anything the B-Wing can do", eh? Try soloing a Tier 5 gunship in an A-Wing... Each has it's place. And FWIW, I can dogfight 4-5 Tier 4 TIEs in my B-Wing and emerge relatively unscathed.I spend as much time in my B as I do in my A. in fact, I only use the A-Wing if there's gonna PvP or I want to finish a Tier 4 duty mission...

(PS Granted, chips are used for these numbers, but they could be used for the A-Wing as well (i.e. "1300 without boost")...)

So I was just cruising through the FAQ's comparing ship masses and such. Now the TIE Oppresor is around 170k mass. Not too bad in my opinion. Much more than my Advanced and a good 50k higher than my Aggressor. A nice upgrade IMO.

So then I noticed that the BWing has 4 weapon slots, 2 torpedo slots, and around 240k mass! WOW!!!! Now that is pretty spiffy IMO. Well, my character is Imp and always has been and always will be.. so I won't be flying a BWing for quite sometime.. hehehehehe...

So, just curious, Rebel Ace's, how do you like the BWing? I'm pretty sure it's not the most manuevorable thing you have but I am curious.

In my case, the TIE with the most mass is the Bomber, followed by the Oppresor, Aggresor, Advanced, Intercepter... and down the line from there. I like my Aggresor a lot right now but am looking forward to the increase in mass on the Oppresor.

i'm bot ace yet, but i'll get the b-wing even if it's the worst ship ever (which i don't care, IT'S A B-WING!)

it will take mad skillz to fly it surgicly, and i love to be kewl with the mad skillz

I just want MP ships beefed up so the YKLX3r is a good bomber option too.

I've solo'd Tier 5 gunships in my A-Wing. But I do sport a MKII Spacebomb launcher. *shrug*

lol. Well of COURSE with space bombs Guess I was talking with just lasers (and saving bombs for, oh, I dunno. The vette? ).

Space bombs in your A, eh? Not leaving much room, are you? Aren't they 11k? Where are you cutting back? Armor? Can you solo a second after this or do you suffer compo damage? Just curious, because I hadn't really considered the "A-wing as bomber" strategy effective, especially not if you had to dogfight after. I'd be interested in your set-up so I could give it a whirl. Sounds fun...

The MKII Spacebomb launchers used to be 6.2-6.7K mass. A couple of really good friends gave me mine. It's absolutely INSANE in an A-Wing. Ya gotta love it!

I only have 4 shots with it and need to reload after any Tier 4 or 5 gunboat.

But in Deep Space a similarly configured A-Wing can easily do suicide runs against the ISD and take it out singlehandedly. I refuse to do it. It really takes the fun out of the game.

As for the rest of my stuff, sorry, no details on some items since I'm at work:

1100/1100 15.9 recharge shield

100-175 point armor front and back

Level 2 booster

Level 8 gun (0.62+ to both shields and armor, 2500-3800 damage)

Level 2 cap (40.9 recharge)

RE'd reward 92.2 engine

Level 1 Speed 14.5 droid interface

MKII Spacebomb (6.2K mass)

RE'd Level 2 Reactor (12K output)

Hmm...am I missing anything?

Nice! As for the SD, I tried soloing it w/ just lasers. Took a while, and I DID get jumped halfway through by a PC and couldn't finish, but I think I could have done it

Nice config. I'll have to look around for "first gen" Space bomb launchers. Mine might be, but can't remember

the awing solo anything including tier5 gunboats the vette and the isd using just the blasters. gunboats are the only thing that the bwing is better at. not because the awing has trouble, but just because the bwing can do it faster.

THAT I'd like to see. if you can solo the 'vette-- on a 30-minute timer-- you're using an exploit. Remember, you have to take the gunships first...

Your statement about the B-Wing only being "better" at gunships is patently wrong.Isn't the point to do it faster? Almost by definition, if you do it faster, you do it "better". If not, why do you fly an A-wing? Technically, a novice rifleman could solo a rancor, but that doesn't mean it's easy or even wise. In the time it takes an A-Wing to solo a gunship, I could've soloed 5 (spawns limited me to 3 though). The A-Wing is NOT the best "all-around" ship (this isthe X-Wing IMHO). The devs did a good job of giving each class an edge in a given situation. The A-Wing excels at dogfighting, easily handling up to 9 Tier 4 fighters at once. Sure, it can solo a gunship, but it's inefficient and dangerous. The B-wing could solo 9 Tier 4 fighters (theoretically. So far, my best is 6), but it's inefficient and dangerous. It can easily handle a Tier 5 gunship. The B-wing does what it was meant to do well. The A-Wing does what it was meant to do well. The B-wing does what the A-wing was meant to do adequately. The A-Wing does what the B-Wing was meant to do adequately. Saying the A-Wing is superior to the B-Wing is simply not true. Neither is the reverse. You take B-Wings out of the picture (and Y-Wings for that matter) and the number of Masters on your server will drop by 3/4 easily. You *need* bombers. Same thing for removing A-Wings and X-wings. You *need* fighters.

This argument is, in many respects, an exercise in futility. IF the A-wing is "better" now, it's because JtL is skewed towards dogfighting. With more content will come expanded roles and greater need for B-wings. As it is, I'm often asked to help on Master missions since I have a B-wing and can, if nothing else, load up 8 Mk 2 spacebombs, and STILL pack enough firepower to run a gunship's shields down to nothing quite fast. An A-wing cannot do this. In fact, I would say the B-wing even has a chance (albeit slim) of soloing the entire vette mission. The A-wing just doesn't have enough time. A properly outfitted B-wing with a knowledgeable, skilledpilot and no outside interference could do it (if you can't solo 2-3 Tier 5 fighters in a B-wing, you're lacking in skills...). A properly outfitted A-wing with a knowledgeable, skilledpilot and no outside interference could not (unless you can slow down time or speed up the harvest).

Now, continue this relatively pointless convo if you wish. My advice is this: get what you want. Just about any Rebel ship will suit your needs. If not, you have 3 slots. A pilot w/o a B-wing or a Nova just doesn't understand the point (or has no interest in playing a support role (or is poor )). Same for a pilot w/ only a B-wing and a Nova (and they're poor BECAUSE they bought the B or Nova LOL). But when it all comes down to it, what was your favorite ship in the movies (aside from the Falcon)? Got those and enjoy them. I have an X, A and B. There's nothing I can't hold my own against. Put me in a squadron and I can play several roles depending on what the others brought. But in the end, when I zoom out with these three craft, the only important thing is that I say: "huh huh. Cool."

'nuff said
