Are you using reactor overload programs? That should help with your reactor problems. I typically do not have room for any more than 2 guns. I use to Lev 8 Reward blasters that I have RE. They have a combined mass of just over 50k so no room for third gun, if I want my lev 8 shields and nice engine.

I use 3 level 6 guns with a reactor just over 14000. I don't bother with missiles though.

The X-wing should not have 3 gun mounts!
Ever!
Look at every single X-wing in the Movies and EU. Not ONE has more than the four wingtip mounted guns (mounts 1 and 2 I believe). The biggest change to the X-wing is the T-65J model, which changes up the engines and adds a third TORPEDO TUBE, not a third gun. Having 3 gunmounts is CRAP!

Eh. If the Tie Fighter, Tie Interceptor, and Tie Bomber can have shields and hyperdrives...

You should be able to make 3 2k reactor drain guns and a 2k drain launcher run with an overloaded 13k generation reactor.

I fly my X-Wing about 90% of the time and I love it. AND I completely agree that 3 weapon mounts is CRAP! It was never in anything I have ever seen or read. I also hate using the engines that give the X-Wing a different look. While sort of cool. Just not cannon for me I guess. I have two REd borstel disruptors on my X-Wing that look just like the ships from the movies.

Meh, so it has 3 gunmounts. WHoopty do. I don't agree with it, but hey, if ya got it, use it. *shrug* Doesnt bother me any.
Ive often thought that the 3rd gunmount was a programming error. i mean.... i would think xwings are supposed to have 2 gunmounts and 2 missle mounts. I would seriously never use any other ship as a rebel if the xwing had that config. Two MK II IR's would solve alot of problems in PvP.

Tie Fighters with shields and/or hyperdrive in EU:
Tie fighter game (Avenger squadron): Tie interceptors with shields and hyperdrives. Ties with hyperdrives and warhead launchers.
Thrawn trilogy: Tie interceptors with shields
Wraith Squadron: Tie interceptors with hyperdrives
Truce at Bakura: "They were as well shielded as a full sized Tie"
X-wings with a centerline mounted gun:
None, barring uglies. And even those replace the torpedo tubes with the guns.
