Well for starters... what parts do you have, or are trying to install? Run down a list with their mass and pertinent stats and then maybe some people can work out what to change.

He better be glad he's a rebel, he'd have real fun with a 50k mass interceptor in the same tier.

Yeah, I can't help but snicker a little whenever I read a rebel asking how to fit together a ship... like c'mon, has he even tried setting up a TIE yet? LOL

well dont going to be able to post i list of each and every part til a get home from work. From what a remember the mass on they ship is 100885 i know thats not the max on a xwing but it was the best i can find. All the parts where Mark IV and some advanced blaster. I couldnt load the Droid interface, no launchers at all, and no front armor maybe no armor at all...lol

Lesson 1: put in the parts that will do the job.

Lesson 2: higher level doesnt always mean better.

Lesson 3: start with Shield, Engine and guns, thenbuild everything else around those.

Yes I know... but you don't get that until Tier 4, and by then you've accessed a bunch of other (heavier) choices to fly as well. Before Imperial pilots get to Tier 4 we've flown nothing heavier than 50k (except the TIE Bomber which is a nearly unflyable pig).

bah... you don't need armor. Concentrate on getting you best engine, weapons, and shield on it first then worry about the rest and use lower level stuff if you need to. Higher level is not always better. Vendor search is your friend... both as a way to get parts and as a way to compare your parts to what is available on your server.

BTW: After Saturday I have new respect for anyone that flies a ship with 65k or less mass in PvP. I flew an Interceptor and even with well above average parts, it took foreverr to kill people.

Here is the tier-3 loadout I recommend to my customers. Numbers are approximate, the final product varies somewhat.

Reactor - Mark III 8k mass 14.5k energy
Engine - Mark IV 13.5k mass 102 spd
Booster - Mark I or II
Shield - Mark IV 17k mass 1900 f/r shields
Armor - 2x Mark II 2500 mass
Droid I/F - Mark III 2600 mass 18 speed
Capacitor - Mark III 6k mass
Weapons - 3x Advanced blasters with quickshot upgrades
Ordinance - no room
CM - Sensor decoy launcher

You have to run reactor overload to have enough power. That reactor provides enough to run engine overload 3 if you run reactor overload 3.

Alternatively, you can use your reward level 6 engine in place of the Mark IV.

Well I fly my alts Dunelizard overt in Kessel (can't get to DS yet) sometimes and I'm only using 72k mass (of the possible 85k). I could maybe get down to 65k if I dropped out my current reactor (large enough to not need an overload) and used a smaller one with RO3 or 4. Is that worth your respect?

It's all the same, Tie, Scyk, Z-95, X-Wing, KSE. It takes anunderstanding the capabilities of your vessel, and a Strong, working knowledge of it's components. While more Mass would seem to mean one has an easier time of it, this is by no means a given, nor, in the case of a young pilot, does it even equate to a healthy loadout.

there are a large number of threads on setting up your ships. One of the chief stats to aim for is MASS. Generaly, the Lower the Better. You are attempting to optimize Every system.

One key, and overlooked aspect of seting up your craft, is Droid Commands. If you don't find it in the sticky, do a search. There are several specific, and highly informative threads on this subject in the Pilot Forum. Something to keep in mind and motivation to Search;

  • Droid Commands Enormously increase your survivabilty, reduce your frustration levels, and decrease your in space travel times, and the time it takes to kill your opponents.

  • Every Droid Command from Every Faction is capable of being used by Any Pilot, regardless of current faction. If the command isn't in Your tree, or, in a box you don't yet have, you will need to Buy a pre-programmed Droid Memory Unit (a chip) or, have another Pilot program an un-programed chip for you. It is far easier to buy a pre-programed one using the Galactic search of player Vendors feature on the Bazaar.

  • You need to install a Droid Interface on your ship in order to use an astromech / Flight Computer

  • Rebel ships use Astromechs, not Flight Computers.

  • Each program takes a certain amount of memory (space). Higher level astromechs / flight computers have more memory than lower ones.

  • Programed chips are one use only. It makes sense to buy more than one of the same chip if you are moving up your pilot tree.

  • Prices are very reasonable on most servers for these chips. Expect to pay at least 10K apiece.

  • Engine Overload 3 (EO3 Imperial), Weapon Overload 3 (WO3, Imperial), Capacitor Overload 3 (CO3, Neutral), and Capacitor to Shield shunt 1-4 (CtSSx, Neutral)are higly valued by a majority of Pilots

  • Level 3 Overloads cause minimal damage, for maximum gain. Level 4 Overloads are most often seen used in Deep Space -- An Ace only, PvP playground.

Parts are broken down into two basic Categories, Crafted and Reverse Engineered. Both are produced by ShipWrights. Reverse Engineered, RE'd, are built using space loot. If you don't know what RE is, or is about, do a search, both here and in the Ship Wright Forum. WEll, Well worth the time.

The goals for fitting out a low mass fighter ship, and the goals for a higher mass fighter ship are similar, if not the same; Ultimate performance. The roles, flight characteristics, flying styles are Not. Not to mention that each Pilot will bring something completely different to each ship. Loadouts vary greatly.

Your X-Wing Does offer you a great deal more flexibility than the lower mass ships. And it's a tremendous Leap forward in manueverability and Damage Capability from the Y-Wings. Bear in mind, though, that some Pilots can do tricks with their Y's that will set your Hair ablaze. This comes from an intimate knowledge of their craft, and highly honed flying skills. Also, some people willsolo their whole tree, right up to Ace,in a Heavy version of the Starter Ship (any faction), as comparison, and (starting from scratch) do it very, very easily, players New to Sims (like me) Will hit a wall and Will struggle every step of the way. Be prepared. Read up and,

Don't stop Flying.

For Imperial Pilots, Don't forget you have access to a Heavy Tie right from the get go. Each Faction has it's pros and Cons in terms of chasis but Each faction is granted the ability to fly Heavy versions of the starter ship, capable of being crafted by a Master Shipwright. If Your shipwright won't do this for you, go and mine/buy the 1K Iron Asteroid Resource, and the 1K Petrochemical resource needed to make them. All the rest of the resources needed are mundane, even if needed in large quantities. If your ShipWright Still won't make it for you... find another shipwright.

On Kauri these Chassis go for about 250 - 500K. And there are some available just about every other day, or so, and from the same Ship Wrights.
