Thread: If anyone wondered what was going to happen when the doitformes tried out DS...
So naturally, when you're starting from ZERO, it takes quite a long time (24-48 hours) to get back to a lucrative number of spawns. This isn't HELPED by the fact that a reset happens NATURALLY every time the servers are taken down.
By removing the incentive to be in DS in the first place, you remove the incentive of most of the pilots you wish to face from being there at all. THAT'S what I meant by "shooting yourself in the foot," and is it really fair that your entire server has to suffer an empty space zone for 24-48 hours because *YOU* wish to PvP?
I have no knowledge of your financial situation - but there are times when the good of the many outweighs the desires of the one (and yes, Trekkies, that wasn't a completely accurate Kobiyashi Maru). I got this game to run smoothly (yes, even in a heavily populated DS) on a 1.4Ghz P3 with 384MB of PC100 and a 128MB Radeon 8500LE. Maybe you should futz around with some of the graphic settings on the Launchpad (under "Game Options") - the ones I used on that severely underpowered machine were:
Graphics:
Vertex/Pixel Shader Version - Set to "Disabled"
***Check the box next to the following***
- Disable Bump Mapping
- Disable Hardware Mouse Cursor
- Use Low Detail Textures
- Use Low Detail Normal Maps
- Disable Multi-Pass Rendering
- (optional) Disable V-Sync
Game (Check the Following):
- Skip Intro Sequence & Disable Character System Level of Detail Manager
Advanced (Check the Following):
- Disable World Preloading (I don't know why, but this quickens load times)
- Use Low Detail Characters
- Use Low Detail Meshes
- Disable File Caching (again, ironically seems to help with load times)
*DON'T* check "Disable Texture Baking" - it screws with your face. It doesn't seem to hurt anything, though.
I've gotten a LOT of tells like this recently - usually either yelling at me for being a jerk and killing them, or theatening me to land and fight (I'm a CL80 pre-CU BH, not the best PVPer but I can hold my own, whatever). Sometimes both, like yours!
I'll let people faction alone in DS after the first fight, but the ISD is not fair game, it's my JOB to protect it. If you engage the ISD I will shoot at you, and I'll do whatever I need to defend it. That's about the only roleplaying immersive PVP aspect of space. Plus, as noted, attacking the ISD both lags the zones from the guns and resets the spawns.
I'm not sure how people arrive in DS and think they're entitled to free kills and to be left alone. I've gotten some pretty nasty tells, apparently people take it very personally these days when you don't like them have their way. Seems to be getting more frequent as well.
My most recent was two idjits in Advanced X-Wings. After the third time I vaped them I think they were just sore that a 50k ship was beating both of them.
I can remember a few times sitting in DS watching Imps farm, oblivious to my presence. I usually tend to leave people alone, but sometimes I do wonder if they really understand what DS is for. As for taking out the ISD, eh. It's there, its killable, theyare within their rights to attack it at will. Personally, unless the crew really looked like they knew what they were doing, I would have left them alone. A POB is an easy kill for an experienced pilot. But, DS is a free fire zone so peeps have to make ther own decisions in that area.
Nice... I have gotten a few tells like that. My policy being that nothing attacks the ISD while I am in DS. Although the 24-48 hours seems a bit much till it reaches normal again, 20 mins is definitly too low.
I have never quite understood how F1 F2 F1 F2 F1 tab or AFK grinding on the ground makes you more skilled that another person.
It's been awhile since I've taken to the "unfriendly skies" of Deep Space, especially since I've been working on getting my shipwright business going as well as trying to full temp my Jedi now.
But, I always enjoy a good juant into space. Honestly, if it's red.. it's dead. If it was fun I always give the "/tell Good Fight". Mainly, the people who seem to send hate tells the most are those using Deep Space to exploit the decay system. I'm sorry, but if you're sitting in your shiney new JSF not moving just waiting for the Hyperspace load screen... you may end up dead.
I know a lot of people call that dirty pool, but IMHO if you're in DS you know the risks. I don't go out of my way to load kill, but if I see someone just sitting there sometimes it's hard not to hit the trigger. My Oppressor loves to luanch missles, whatcha gonna do.
If someone see's me coming and asks to not be engaged I respect that request unless the fire on me or go after the ISD. If a POB asks to back off, in general I will.. unless they're engaging targets. As soon as I se a puff of smoke near your ship, consider yourself engaged. It may not be the politically correct way of handeling things but honestly, JTL needs less self impossed rules and more action. Don't like PvP, don't go overt, and don't go to Deep Space. Because this player and his 5 Ace toons (2 imp, 2 nuetral, 1 rebel) don't fire warning shots.

People actually go to DS to PvE? Blasphemy! BURN THE HERETIC! Seriously...whats the point in destroying the ISD...any two-byte pilot with a tri-cannon can do that.....What is impressive, is outflying a bomber strike, next to the isd, and still killing the caller of the strike who is in the bay of the ISD.
Points in destroying the ISD:
1) Lag relief
2) Massive influx of faction points from rapid destruction (500 a pop)
3) Boredom
