I picked up a joystick for JTL today. I've never used one before, but I've been having trouble with my mouse recently, and decided to try it. Could you give me some tips on getting used to it? Thanks.

Bang around on low-level spawn for a few hours.

What stick did you pick up? That'd help a lot.

Logitech Attack 3. I'm liking it so far. Just not used to it yet. I really need to learn to remap the keys on this thing, though. It's a pain to have to switch back to the keyboard to adjust my speed.

doesnt it have a throttle control? If it doesnt take it back and get one that does, you really need a throttle to make using your joystick worthwhile

The most perfect joystick IMO is the WingMan Extreme Digital 3D...I have the WingMan Attack 2, which is the same basic structure;it has a trigger, three thumb buttons, two buttons on the base, and (most importantly) a swing-stick throttle control, not a throttle wheel. The swing stick gives me a great deal more accuracy in gauging my throttle. The only things its missing is a twist-handle for the roll axis, which the ED3D has. Logitech's software also lets you assign shift-button values to your joystick.

Does anyone use the 4/8-way hat switch on their joystick? Thats another thing the A2 doesnt have, but I dont think that I'd ever use it.

By the way, my keymap is this: trigger, fire current weapons group. Main thumb button, cycle next component. Side thumb buttons, target closest enemy and target next under reticle. Side buttons, activate booster and either target last enemy that shot me or fire all ordnance groups, if I load up ordnance. I find that gives me everything I need for a dogfight to quickly acquire the next best target (usually whatever's shooting at me heh), disable it or destroy it, and bug out if I need to. I could map more but that seems to be everything I ever need

Should have come with some calibration/configuration software, Logitech stuff is usually pretty good in that aspect.

Can't help you with the details however, I'm an X52 user myself. It does have a throttle on it, yes? If so, that'd be the easiest thing to map out.

No, no throttle. Just a bunch of buttons. As near as I can tell, most of them don't do anything. I just figured I'd remap two of them to get it working.

I'm kind of confused as to the software bit. The instructions from Logitech said, and I quote, "Insert the USB connector, then follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation." So I plugged it in, and the computer did nothing. It knows the joystick is there, and I can fly around with it fine, but there weren't any instructions at all.

I have the Logitech Wingman 3-D Extreem. It has the 8 way hat and I thought I'd never use it and tried to program it to do something other than look around. However I have found it is really great to get in position to attack a gun boat, or other multi gunned ship from the safest attack angle. I use it all the time now.

Is that what that is? I thought that was like the sliding things on my dad's old joystick. He used to use one to play Flight Simulator back in the mid 90s. Messing with those almost always ended up causing his plane to crash into the ground. I've been doing my best to avoid touching it. Thanks!
