Thread: Do people use missiles besides for just the cool effects?

I see no use for missiles whatsoever but would occasionally load up some just to make the combat a little realistic or different.

Also wondering if they do splash damage? I remember in XwA if you were too close to the impact of a spacebomb (which were A LOT slower) you would also get damaged. But I find it would be useful if they had splash damage if the enemy ships were close together.

Only reason i'm trying to bring these points up is because some Imperial ships have 3 Ord slots which would be more useful if 1 or 2 of those slots be converted into Gun slots instead.

All you really need is 1 Ord slot.

I think spacebombs do splash damage, not sure on the others. I occasionally use ordnance in PVE against the Vette--sometimes it's easier to launch a missile at those components than fly straight at them--and we're starting to use them in PVP like crazy. My summary of missiles would be they're far from necessary, but have great strategic value when employed in the right situation.

My favorite is target someone and type /launchmissile YAY! Makes em nervous when they see the missile lock message come up.

Only thing I use missiles for is Turret 5 on the corvette. Pretty much worthless for anything else.

Missiles have their place in pvp. Against the agile light fighters it is often easier to get a missile lock than to land a blaster shot.

Used a spacebomb while in my nova once in PVP (forgot i was overt) the person who attacked me didn't last long against that (his fault for coming at me straight on).

For what it's worth, to me it depends on the ship.

For instance, the Krayt has 4 weapons and 1 missle slot. In that case, I have as much firepire as I need with the weapons and find myself never wanting to use missles at all (except for the occasional). In the KSE, you only have 2 weapons, but 2 missle slots, so you lean on the missles a bit more to dish out the amount of damage you need to.

Missles have their place, it's just a matter of when and how.

I use Image Rec for PvP and occasionally SB2's for both vette shields and enginesin larger fighters

I hooked a missile launcher up onto my B-Wing, just so I could say it really was a "bomber". But it really serves no other purpose then to look cool. It's a level two launcher, so it doesn't do much damage. But it looks neat when it fires.

I know a couple of people who like to load up sb2's, but they are also sw's so the cost is less than if they were buying packs.

I've stopped using them for the most part.

For pve, I just don't really need them with the firepower of both my krayt and oppressor and even my dunelizzy and advanced.

For pvp, I often find that I can outboost most missiles that come my way...most times anyway...

I can one shot most players with my main gun (4550 max damage) in an Aggressor, and I am manueverable enough to take on a vette solo with just guns. I have never seen a need for missiles, except maybe against players in A-wings...

I use and prefer Concussion missles personally.
