Thread: 9x Ace Pilots I think we should get ALL ship certs

I am not sure if this has been posted before, but I was discussing the game with a friend at work who doesn't play, and he said since I had mastered all 9 squadrons, I should be allowed to fly any ship in the game. And I agreed with what he said.

What do you all think? Should 9x Ace Pilots be allowed to fly any ship, regardless of faction?

I've had this idea before - and I while I think it has merit, it has a few flaws:

1. Depending on whether you're Imperial/Rebel/Privateer, you won't be able to fly certain ships because you won't be certed to use an Astromech or Flight Computer since they're ship-specific. Rebels and Privateers would be hard-pressed to enjoy TIEs if they couldn't use droid programs.

1a. It would work if Privateer ships could use both astromechs OR flight computers, but that would still leave straight Imperial/Rebel fliers S.O.L., and even THIS fix would leave 9x-ers only capable of flying six ships out of a current nine.

2. An Imperial flying an X-Wing might be a game-breaking bug - source code can be funny that way - things called General Protection Faults happen when white turns to black, cats start liking dogs, and rain starts falling UP.

A better reward for 9x acing would be to resurrect the Boltdriver, Borstel, or pre-nerf L6/L8 reward engine. If you spend the credits/take the time to grind all nine trees, I think they can afford to bring back an "unbalancing" item.

That or introducing a new "Supreme/Elite Ace" tree and title system, complete with the ability to use ship texture kits at long last on Imperial ships so squadrons could deck out with specific motifs.

Astromech certifications work by level, not either flight computer or astromech. Rebels use both astromech droids and flight computers, depending on which of their various fighters they are using. The ability of any faction to use the ARC-170 and the Jedi Interceptor suggest, too, that any faction is capable of using astromech droids, as well as flight computers.

See previous comments.

There are already Imperial variants of Rebel-style craft in the game. They are called scientist or civilian craft, but there are X-wings and Y-wings already in use by Imperial-tagged NPCs.

Agreed.

An interesting idea, but I doubt the devs are ever going to give TIE pilots the ability to paint their ships. If you want customization, either go privateer or pick up one of the three new fighters coming with RotW.

I don't like the idea, I like that there is a differeance in what ships each side gets to use.

Resurrect the Boltdriver and Borstel? When did they die? Are the 4 boltdrivers and5 borstels I've gotin the past6weeks worth millions now?

Acing 9 times gives you a 4x XP bonus, a whole load of reward components and 9 badges. That was enough reward for me.

I don't want to target an x-wing and find out an Imp is flying it. That'll be hell in PvP.

Now if this was reality, a pilot could fly any ship he wanted if he had the ship. But for game purposes that couldn't be the case. What I think should happen is (maybe) based on your ground faction you should be able to fly your own faction's ships as well as neutral ships. Neutrals, depending on which squadron they get could be able to fly either Neutral and Imp ships or Neutral and Rebel ships. The only non faction ship (until ROTW) is the firespray so the ability is already out there.

You might as well drop the neutral prof then. Droid commands can be traded. Pilot commands are not much good 'cept IFF but rebels get those too. Not something I'm in favor off.

Much as it's a great thing to have done to have completed all the squads I odn't think that the ability to fly all ships is a particularily good idea.

Just in terms of making any sense really - You flew for them? Against us? And now you want one of our ships?

Nope, doesn't work for me.

My idea was for Pilots to gain a cert in a random ship (up to a Tier 3, nothing past Tier 4) as a reward for helping a Tier 4 Pilot do the Vette and gain ace. My way of thinking was lets say your a Freelance and help a Rebel Pilot gain Ace, at that point you would talk to the NPC that gave the mission to the Rebel Pilot and he'd offer you a 'reward' for helping the Rebels. At this point we could just allow him to have someone teach you a cert in a Rebel Ship, or allow you to pick up a reward item (Parts, a Ace Helm or Jacket, or just cold hard cash).

Still this is just my 2 cents...

Nope. I strongly disagree with having all the factional craft available to any Pilot. The rewards in terms of loot and badges are just fine. Now, if there were some ELITE PILOT PROFESSION that required mastery of all 9 Aces, I wouldn't mind. hehehe.

I would rather have some new ships open up in general. I'm kinda getting bored with the whole "been there, flown that" issue I have right now. That's the only thing I'm happy about in the new expansion, more ships to try out.

My opinion is similar to Talsts. After 9 defections, people wouldn't exactly be friendly toward you on any side of the fence.

A similar suggestion was made regarding getting more ship slots by the number of Aces you aquire. It just doesn't make sense that a multi-defector would get preferential treatment.

And it flat out isn't fair. Imps and Rebs on the ground can't be all 3 factions in the air, and would be disqualified. Even if they just flipped back and forth between the two that they can, what would explain why they can fly the opposing faction ships? Nuttin.

I guess I don't understand why folks think there should be a reward for betraying 3 different factions on 3 different occasions. But then, I think more in a "character/world" sense than a "game" sense. And considering how you used to have to bounce thru professions to become jedi, I guess I CAN see where the idea comes from. I just don't agree with it.

Isuppose getting 4x XP isn't reward enough?

Like Coran and me said, xp/reward components is enough for us. As to betraying 3 factions, moving from neutral to either Imp or rebel is explainable storywise. Moving from rebel to imp or vice versa and then back isn't. But after mastering 6 squadrons already and then come here and reading posts that Imperial missions are the toughest was an itch I just had to scratch

And the level 7 Imp reward gun is a nice starting point to RE guns for the x-wing. And I'm fond of a little irony, shooting imps with their own guns
