Thread: Heavy TIE vs TIE Bomber?

I'm currently an Imperial 3/3/2/2 pilot and have been considering an upgrade from my heavy TIE but I thought I'd ask here before I did it. Is the TIE Bomber the best alternative for my current level or should I just stick with my current ship? Is there a significant difference in performance characteristics with the upgrade or will I even notice a change? Any advice would be appreciated.

This is like comparing apples and oranges.

I'd stick with the heavy tie if given the same choice.

If you want to go oldschool, get a tie interceptor.

Personally I fly every ship I'm awarded the cert for while leveling pilot profs. I alternate every box trained.

Keeps me on my toes, keeps things from getting stale and it's just more fun that way.

If a poisonous snake is dropped on top of you from a gyrocopter, don’t freak out and shoot your own driver with your arrow gun, making the vehicle lose control and blow up. Its probably just as scared as you are.

It's more about performance benefits than anything else, I'm not switching to change my look but any increases in ship performance would be welcomed. I noticed that the bomber has 2 guns and missile capability which seemed rather nice, but if the ships flies like a tugboat I'd sooner stick with what I've got. What are the pros/cons of the Heavy TIE vs the Bomber?

I used my hvy tie until I could use my jedi fighter. The hvy tie is a BIG bomber (95k)with the speed and manuverbility of a tie figher (20k). Shoot , what more could you wish for. I rarly get missils to lock ( not to metion, missils cost money) and I could fit a BIG gun to make up for having only one weapon. I was stressed when I had to go down to 90k for my jedi figher LOL. The bomber is not a dog fighting ship and until you are up in the componet level , you can not even use the heavy big stuff.

I guess you can see if you can play without dog fighting and just be a missil platform. Some people are good at that. I guess you need to see if you are. How are you doing in the hvy tie? what is you pilot level now?

If you want to get shot a lot and not be able to turn or fly very fast, get a bomber.

Just stick a bigger gun in your Heavy when you level up.

Unfortunetly the game is a bit broke right now in that there isn't much reason to fly bomber-type craft.

Short answer is the T/B flies like a tugboat. Its a bomber after all.

Just the information that I wanted, thanks very much guys. I'll just stick with my heavy until I can fly a JSF or KSE.

Not a personal attack, but I knew this phrase was involved somewhere.
/sigh

Seriously, just plain stick with your Heavy TIE. After making Imperial ace a long, long time ago I've tried many different PvP/PvE setups. My favorite is the TIE/H and that's what I fly now in PvP.

The JSF is a lot harder to hit, but the TIE actually turns better and, well, its agod damn TIE. It's what I should be flying as an Imperial.

I don't consider that a personal attack, not really sure what the problem with flying a JSF would be though considering the character that would be flying it is, in fact, a jedi. I like the heavy tie, but not having flown any other ships except the starter tie I just thought I'd ask if there was a better option or not.

Come to think of it, I really like the look of the decimator and oppressor too so I'll probably have multiple ships. I would just like to explore all options while I learn to fly effectively, but investing in a ship that flies like a tank is a waste and asking here would preventit ....so I asked. It's not as though I'm working the guns for friend to take the easy path to ace, I actually enjoy space and just wanted some constructive opinions before I made my decision.

BTW, why the sigh about the JSF? I haven't completed the quest to get it yet, but thought it would be a nice addition to my collection of ships. Is there something wrong with the way it flies or are they just considered tacky to traditionalists?

Well, ya gotta remember first of all that your kinda stepping into the pilots wading pool. Pilot as a profession has developed entirely differently from other SWG professions. Different breed/mentality/customs.

The problem with the JSF is well. lets see if i can narrow this down.

1.) Many (myself included) consider some of the ROTW ships over the top, out of balance, and basically over done. The JSF usually recieves the brunt of this, althogh its not limited to just the JSF.

2.) Everyone is now flying a JSF. It has, in action, become the composite of space. Apparently sony didnt learn their lesson on the ground, and have repeated their past mistakes in space now.

3.)Lotta ppl come through here looking to get powerleveld just to fly them. Nevermind the rest of the game. But this is also a point that extends a bit deeper when some of these people go overt and subsequently get owned in PvP due to their overconfidence in their uber ship, and apparent lack of skill because they were powerleveld that is matched only by their bad attitude in pvp.

This isnt directed at you, im just related what other people might possibly be looking at, or why it might generate a few snide remarks here or there. Im sure i may have missed a point here or there, but thats the gist of it.
