BTW, why the sigh about the JSF? I haven't completed the quest to get it yet, but thought it would be a nice addition to my collection of ships. Is there something wrong with the way it flies or are they just considered tacky to traditionalists?

Pretty much. Any pilot that has confidence in their abilities doesn't like to fly them for the reasons listed in the post above.

I've just heard the phrase 'Just fly the heavy starter ship x until you hit 4333 then use the JSF 'till Ace' more than I care to.

If you don't understand my sigh about the JSF then you should spend some time reading on the boards, it becomes pretty clear pretty quickly and ultimately you'll either decide not to use one or you'll redouble your efforts to gain one.

Tocran wrote:
I would just like to explore all options while I learn to fly effectively, but investing in a ship that flies like a tank is a waste...

That's not exploring all options and calling the Bomber a waste based on other people's opinions is a little premature. I know several people (myself included) who enjoy the Bomber and have found it to be quite effective when set up properly.

Again, I'm not trying to see you can pee the farthest here, I'm just beginning to understand how a lot of 'Pro-CU' people felt now.

If a poisonous snake is dropped on top of you from a gyrocopter, don’t freak out and shoot your own driver with your arrow gun, making the vehicle lose control and blow up. Its probably just as scared as you are.

Depends on who you ask. I could be mistaken but ill wager 90% of the forum will concur its unbalanced, and is the "composite of space".

Personally, I am a Bomber pilot. I love my TIE Bomber. Its a pig, sure, but you can learn to fly a pig. I myself am not a parts master, I just recently started collecting parts to RE. But with the Bomber you dont really need to be. Its 190k of massy goodness. Find yourself a really fast engine, I used a player made 112 speed with YPR in the 60's. Its pretty quick for a pig. Only ships that cause me any troubles are A-wings if I dont disable them on the first pass, but all that needs to be done is a quick boost and turn.

Added bonus to flying a TIE Bomber is when you get master, you can easily transition to an Oppressor. All you need to do is shave off 20k mass.

Eh, I choose Bomber anyday, but thats just me.

people are so mean to the Jedi fighter. I know that lots of German aces' love the 109 in ww2. and you still see some still flying them at the end of the war. Erich Hartmann (351 kills ) but I , not being so good, would have to have updated to the fw190 and then if I could to the ME 262. Yes, the pure at heart whould stay with the TIE ( normal ) but even Lord Vader flew his experamental fighter. Now, making the jedi figher better then late model fighters like x-wing seems strange but ...

1) that is just how it is now and until they fix it , you use the best equipment avalable .

2) the rebs have such nice ships so early, they should let us catch up with the later ships.

We still do not have the flexablity they have until later. you have to be in a bomber at tier 3to get multi guns or wait for tier 4 tie advanced.

My goodness , they get ships over 100k at tier 1. heck at tier 0 they can start with a hvy z95 at 95k mass.

multi guns at tier 2 ( not counting the y fighter at tier1 ) and a 3 guy x-wing at tier 3 (100k mass) . the hvy xwing at tier 4 is 180k mass.

Thank God we have something. It is something the imps can have . are we so down on ourselves that we can not have good things?

Ya the small foot print is hard to hit but it is a lite ship also. It is not like there is a 180k load out you can put in it. You have to find good part to put in the small frame. I myself do not PVP. I like the cool looking ship and the fact it is hard to hit, I gave up some weight to fly the thing.

So , the purest can fly the tie ( normal) and I will test the Emperors new jedi fighter mark 2 ( because you are right, the old bird should not be better then the new stuff. So , it must be Vader's second test ship after the tie advance. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Yes rebels get high mass ships at low levels, BUT whats the point of >100mass when all you can fit is lv1-5 components?. Its actually quite well designed imo cause they have ships you might 'come back to' later when you have higher cert's.
Oh and the main problem i have with RotW ships isnt to much with the high end ones its the heavy varients i mean now all you use is 2 ships from novice to master. I find this stupid why have other ships at all?

Personally I'd prefer the mass of the actis (jsf) to be switched with the Imp guard int. The imp guard int looks better and is actually bigger than the jsf. Why should the JSF have more mass than a bigger new ship? I still wish the imp guard int had 2 guns to warrant the 4 gun hardpoints but I can live with it being just one. The regular interceptor had so little mass that you couldn't resonably fit two guns in it that did any decent damage. But that would not be the case with the imp guard int and it would be really nice to see if the masses of the imp guard int and the jsf were switched.

Imp ships seem to go the speed/maneuverability route. The Y-Wing is almost as much of a tank as the TIE Bomber - when I did my first Rebel squadron, I upgraded to the Y-Wing ... then after a while I went back to the starter Z-95 and had an easier time until I picked up 1211 and couldn't fit my best gear anymore. Until the X-Wing, Rebels don't have it all that easy. Privateers, now, THEY have it easy with the Dunelizard! 85k mass and two guns in Tier 1, and fairly good handling ... taking it to Tier 4 isn't much of a problem.

I beg to differ. I was stuck with bombers until Tier 3 when I could get an X-Wing. Soloing Tier 2 CP in my longprobe (I didn't mess with droid commands at the time) as awful. Slow ship + slow engine + lower tier parts = not-so-manueverable ship with mediocre weapons and firepower. I actually had so much trouble that I gave up with my longprobe and used my 12k mass Z-95 to finish the tier up.

I would honestly trade the Imperial ship line-up for the Rebel fighter lineup any day, in terms of ship roles and advancemment anyways. I can't stand being forced into a bomber role, particularly when my flight style is medium-light fighter-esque in it's nature.

Of course, now that there's a heavy Z-95 that can fit just as much good stuff as an X-Wing at novice box, it's kind of a moot point (and this applies to all the factions w/ their heavy variants).

Nobody was saying that, you ARE however taking the exact same course as these types of people with your current plans for leveling in the Pilot's profession.

I see where you're coming from Jeebus, but why not let me know your opinion of the Bomber so that I have a picture from both sides. So far it hasn't recieved any positive feedback and although I don't mind spending credits freely, I don't see a reason to waste them if the ship performs like crap. But considering that I am still somewhat new to piloting, I'd like a ship that offers the best bang for the buck until I am more comfortable with space and can make an educated decision myself. I'm not here looking for the easy path to the JSF, but I do like the look of the ship...to be honest, I like the look of the KSE far more. When I make my way to ace, which at current pace could be the same time I get to jedi master, I'll probably buy one of each type ship and test them all out, but until then I want the best handler to learn with.

Is the JSF that unbalanced or is it simply a FOTM? I'm definately not interested in joining the FOTM club, I just assumed(having not seen a lot of negativity about it) that the JSF was just a natural progression as you became more skilled at flying. Much like buying a new weapon as they become available, I just want to use the most effective tool for my purpose...I see no need in flying a CDEF ship when a better option exists.
