Thread: i wish four people operating a POB ship were equivalent to 4 people in tier5 fighters.

i think they should come out with additional "elite" components for these large mass ships, and totally revamp the turret targetting system.

they get dusted off too quickly to be worth much in PvE or PvP combat.

Zounds, contact me ingame on Janu. I'll take you out to Kessel and I'll show you what these machines are capable of.

I was there for a while, just me and a single gunner in the top turret (I believe you know Spikespiegel?) and we did rather well against the Tier 5s without dying and only minor damage to my rear armor.

These things are very capable machines in PvE. I can take my Nova Courier into a slugging match with a YE-4 and come out shining (with an Ops officer spamming the hell out of CapShunt4, mind you, but you adjust your combat style to the level/capabilities of your crew).

They need some serious help in PvP, but I have no reservations at all about PvEing with them so long as I have at least one shooter on board.

In Kessle you only have to deal with 1-3 tier 5 at any given time, plus they just don't seem very interested in shooting back. Try your POB in a tier 4 duty mission to test your crews mettal, see how many waves you can get through before getting beached.

i guess i just get frustrated when i look at the turret fire control in SoE games like planetside--

it makes me think to myself "now why can't they add something like that to the POB ships in SWG? it might make PvP... ahh... a possibility".

and janu, i've only been flying a few times in a POB ship with decked out elite parts, but the whole time i was blowing through kessel i couldn't help but think, "if the four of us were in tie oppressors, this whole corvette battle group would be space debris by now".

Oh yeah, one more detail. If you have FIVE people, a POB really starts to shine. Nothing like having your systems come back online in an ugly fight without losing Ops or gunners.

Sounds fun. Problem is 5 people in fighters would never have their armor scratched let alone systems fail fighting the same opponents. POB ships need a major revamp, currently they have no combat role.

As cool as they may be with 5 people, they still need to be made better for PvP. As it is now, one player can easily take out a decimator or nova courrier with 4 or 5 players onboard. I agree with zounds, they need to make POB ships better. Maybe give them better parts (weapons should be much more powerful and faster, and armor/shields should be much more durable), add a better turret targetting system, maybe do stuff like give the copilot a turret on the front, and add a new position called tailgunner or something, and have it so each position has built in countermeasure launchers that are very effective, so POB ships would be hard to take out with missiles. The thing is, its not that common for people to cooperate and work together well over the internet in a game, so when they do they should certainly be rewarded.

Five players working together in a decimater or nova courier should be much more powerful than five players attacking them in tier 5 ships. Otherwise, there would be no reason to use the POB ships.

totally.

i think they were originally intended as heavy bombers (like those large ww2 bombers that laid waste to europe), but they just aren't working out because the turret defenses are inadequate, the armor and shields are too weak, and the reactors and capacitors are too small.

maybe if the copilot was given the ability to fire the missles (and they could be aimed anywhere in a 90 degree arc that faces the front of the ship?), and the turret people had upgraded turret attack vectors or something, so they could at least lead the targets a little better with the mother ship doing corkscrews in space.

as it stands now they're essentially flying coffins so any upgrade would be awesome...

Sure they do, if you don't mind a challenge.Any group of monkeys can gang bang a YE-4infighters, the POBs represent adifferent kind of combat that takes moreskill toaccomplish than simply loading a bugged Weapon Overload program andCapShunting.

I agree, they could use a power boost, but they're not useless.

And neither will a POB with practice and good teamwork.

True enough. But the only way you learn is by pushing limits, and more often than not, those limits push back.
