Complete agree with this thread!

the freighters should be able to fire alone, and Droids may be a good alternative...

Several models, each capable of using a certain level os cannons and certain accuracy... Devs should think of that ASAP!

So, just to clarify, would you be in favor of droids?

A Y-Wing Longprobe with 5m mass and an extra launcher.

That's what the Nova Courier would become without the need for gunners. Similiar with all MP ships. Can you say "Overpowered"?

LOL!

Being a DE, I'm sure in favor of them...

Gee, sorry folks, Imeant to reply the "NO SOUP FOR JOO! - Master Privateer = Master Chauffeur" thread!

I believe droids should be given gunner capabilities, even if limited, to be used in turret-armed starships.

I bet the devs want fo force people on grouping and such, but the pilot should be able to control direct or indirectly at least 1 gun, so using droids would help lone rangers!

Let me elaborate more the machanics I thought:

The gunner droid could operate from 1 to all guns in the starship, but with progressive lack of accuracy, much like the autofire we see in XWing Alliance freighters.

E.G. using 1 gun, up to 50%chance of hitting the targets passing by. 2 = 33% on each, and 3 guns = 15%.

Max targets, accuracy, fire rate and max guns would be the stats of the droid, and as programming, the player could choose the targets on screen and set the droid to fire at it, in pre-determined fire-modes: barrage(max energy consumption), fire at will, normal and defensive mode(energy saving).

The idea isto make droids an option, but with some limitations tostill favor player gunners.

Well, again, sorry the mistake!

*scratches head* So, you want to turn this into X-Wing Alliance, flying the YT-2000, send the droid to be the gunner, who's a lot more accurate than you are...

As I edited in my post above, I don't imagine ultra-precise droids. The ubber-most droid would have 50% chance of hitting a target... maybe less... Just to enable lone pilots to at least fly around alone.

You're flying a ship that is supposed to be crewed by more than one person. Why would you expect to fly around alone?

The Freelancer pilots' lack of a single seater at master is an issue unto itself. Turning the YT-1300 into a behemoth because of mass and firepower is creating a bigger issue.

Gee dude, just giving my opinion that the game should follow the previoulsy released ones! not meant to turn the yt into a ISD or anything, just give it the ability to shoot feeble blasters around to maybe beat a blue con, relatively speaking!

It`d work like pet droid in space!

The previously released games were single player with multiplayer components. It wasn't feasible to have ships require a player crew when the primary focus of the game involves a single player.

And if JTL followed the previous games, Tie Fighters would be shieldless deathtraps for anyone except a wonderpilot. And my X-Wing would have 4 guns, dammit!

No, don't have the droid gun, have it pilot. Makes more sense.

This is seen in Xwing Alliance and the movies (when R2 asks luke to pilot and he says no I'll keep it on manual)

The droid can have an evasive maneuvers program or whatever, the AI code is already there on the NPC ships.

Recently, I worked up to Imp pilot 4/3/3/3 and got myself a nice TIE Aggressor. Now, coming from a X-wing alliance, I was expecting to have the rear turret to enable 'auto-gunner' so I can make the full use of my rear gun, without having to drag some poor soul with me..

So, everything didn't work out as well as I had hoped. The annoying this now, is that the TIE aggressor is a good craft, but I am annoyed that I have to fly this ship at half its potential!

A droid that droid engineers make, that takes up mass and can have a accuraccy % for each droid to represent quality of the droid. These droids can then be 'added' to your ship and auto fire for you on any hostile targets in range.

True, this would mean that it would take away some of the fun of having 'human' gunners, but surly the incentive of having human gunners is that you can interact with them on a personal level and the droid gunner would be relativly 'stupid' in a way that it would only attack the nearest target, rather than the most 'tactically viable' target.

This would mean that players who want to have fun with friends can still have 'human' gunners, but players who prefer to solo, and still get the full use out of their ship, can make use of droids and become a formidable threat.

The arguement of saying "Well, wont that mean that MP ships will be very hard to kill".. well.. yes, they should be! Multiple weapons means more offensive & defensive capabilities, but large ships mean heavy components & slow manuverability. Every ship has a weakness, and MP ships it should be its speed, not that you cant drag enough people out into space and force them into the gunner positions.
