So I flew to Deep Space for the first time to see what the deal was. Full shields and armor, etc. After about 2 minutes i heard the combat music and my ship just exploded.
If this isn't a great way of telling me never to bother wasting my time going there, i dont know what is

First thing to do before going to DS is bind target closest hostile player (or something like that). It id shift tab by default (or was it ctrl tab) I put it to my space bar and make sure I smack it about every 10 seconds, if there isn't a hostile player in scan range (seems tobe about 2500m) then it just stays on your target.
Situational awareness is your most powerfull weapon in space. You can have the best shields, armor, and weapons in the game, but if your flying around and have no idea what is around you consider yourself dead! The idea is to make sure you know about the other guy before he knows about you...even better is if he doesn't know about you until he explodes
Also, you without a doubt ran into a another player, the tier V NPCs in DS are no tougher than the ones in Kessel, the only other thing that might kill you that fast is a Corvette, but I doubt you got that close to one without knowing it.

We really need a guide to Deep Space / JTL PvP stickied at the top of this forum.
Anyways, two key things to success in PvP:
1. ALWAYS, ALWAYS be looking for hostile players (by default, shift+tab).
2. Bring a maneuverable ship. A-Wing and TIE Advanced/Interceptor are acceptible. X-Wings and TIE Oppressors are not.

I went into Deep Space a couple times. Heh, haven't met anyone else in DS yet. Every time I've been, I've been the only player there... Or atleast I never saw any other player...

First thing I do when I get to deep space is type /who. That will give away half of the players in the game. The other half are sneaky so you need to rebind the target player enemies key. I have mine set to u. Then I just randomly click the u key occaisionally while flying around. If you do this you'll find that you may start getting the jump on enemy players and instead of dying in one shot... You'll be prepared and most likely be catching these same players yourself. I have only died four times in PvP and all four times came in a big planned PvP encounter when I was busy killing another player and couldn't get a target lock on the second player due to the corpse of the first one I killed being stuck as nearest target.

Oh wow, I didn't realize PVP in space was 1 shot, 1 kill.
Isn't that kinda dumb? What the point of having good shields, or good weapons if 1 tier 1 concussion missile can take you out in a flash?
Well I dont feel so stupid now I guess. Doesnt change the fact that they setup space PVP to be not fun, so i wont be doing it.

You might as well call it Deep Space Pv, because you'll likely be dead before you can say the last P.
As for dying in one hit, it's weapon overload enhanced blasters that cut you down, not missiles.

So blaster power is a factor, what about shield strength? Armor strength? Do these also mean anything in PV? Or is there a guide for how things work in PV compared to PVE?
Noticethat im calling it PV now, hehe.
Anyways, i use an A-wing with "advanced red blasters", 1800 strength shields, about 800 for armor... 92 speed engine. Decent capacitor with the shunt to shield command at the ready.
Nothing is overloaded, though i could probably find droid chips to do that if necessary.

using the search feature is helpful, it will clue you in to how many people are in the region, even if not in sensor range.

Heheh, that is me, Richmond. Glad you like my shop.
It's tricky to fit everything into one of the light fighters, but by REing and eliminating things you think you need but really don't, or at least things that you need but can sacrifice in the name of things you need more, it can be done. Oh yeah, and overcharge programs will help this a lot, too--if you're using them, you can get away with a level 1 reactor and a level 2 capacitor with no loss in performace. Your armor sounds a little heavy, too: you might try dropping down to two pieces of level 1, or one level 1 and one level 3. You just need to trim out 7K to be able to fit a good missile launcher and a chaff launcher.
If you're interested, get ahold of me in-game sometime and we can see about custom-fitting your ship to make it a PVP machine. The stuff I sell on my vendor's best for most situations, but for these light fighters, I highly recommend having a shipwright go over it piece by piece and see if he can't come up with something better for the mass you've got to work with.

Sounds like a Plan, Tomo. I'll try to get ahold of you in the coming week. I'll send an e-mail to you or something to setup when.
