Thread: Tomo, you REALLY need to forward this to the Devs:

I'm not fed up with flying...I'm just trying to see the point of it, and when I start thinking stuff like this, it's usually a scant few weeks before I START getting "fed up." I know this is thread #45,493,283 on the subject, but we don't need more space content in a few months, we need it NOW, man.

Simply put - new ships and duty missions aren't content - they're appeasement. They're a step in the right direction, but they're not content. We wouldn't have gotten jack had Ep3 not come along. Capital Ships are gonna be nice, but again, new ships doth not equal-eth new content...eth.

I mean, seriously - a "professional pilot" nowadays can make about 500k-1 million per night flying duties, and that's not even pushing it. You probably could make more if your brain didn't start to come out your nostrils after about Duty Mission #7. With inspiration buffs, you can cap faction now in DS in less than three days from a relative bottompoint. I personally went from ~47k to 120k in three nights, and it wasn't a continuous grind.

But once you have these credits and faction points, what's there to spend them on? Once you get a good enough ship, pretty much everything you earn is pure profit, for the most part. The ground game holds little to no interest to me anymore, even though I'm CL80 with a pretty solid melee template (which might be part of the problem since melee's gimped right now).

If I make a minimum of 500k per night, by 9/27/05 (my 2yr anniv.), I'll have roughly 90 million credits (barring minor expenses). And that's just 500k, note I said earlier than pulling in a mill-plus isn't that much more difficult.

But what am I going to do with it? And please, no "/tip it to me" replies. This post is meant to be serious.

Besides, my main objective right now is to best all your best REs, especially Tomo's L6. I've already got the best L10 weapon, now I'm trying to get the best L6 and L8 engine, L7 and L8 weapon, and best reactors and capacitors in the game. But after I do that, WHAT THEN?

I mean...I could always grind enough FP in a month to carpet an entire planet's usable flat surface with Imperial PvE bases...but again...what'd be the point?

...besides giving the Devs a great incentive to nerf faction rewards in space...

I think the idea was that after we all got Ace Pilot, we'd just keep ourselves amused in Deep Space killing each other, like the ground game.

Unfortuantly, due to downtime after being killed and a general lack of incentives, this dosen't appear to have worked on most servers. I do hear good things about Starsider, however.

What we need is the ability to have actions in space, which have consequences. A Galactic Civil War in space, where every enemy fighter you destroy cripples the enemy fleet just that little bit more. The ability to be able to smuggle cargo aboard a freighter, but with dire consequences if you're scanned by an Imperial patrol. Just things that make us feel we are part of the Piloting side of a larger universe, not just blasting things for no apparent reason. I mean, you'd think the Blacksun fighter fleet would be completly disappeared by now, with the amount of ships that have been sent to that big airfield in the sky.

These days about the only entertaining thing related to DS or PVP in general is the content of the seathing hate tells you get from all this flood of newbies we got. At least on bria. Ive been on break for a month and i have had a couple intresting tells since my return. Some other veteran pilots i know have gotten ALOT more tells. Tells in breif;, "WAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!"

Theres a reason why im now working on my 9th pilot badge, and have done the corvette master mission to master a pilot tree 12 freaking times already.

Storm squadron will be badge number 9, and the 13th time ive mastered *sigh*.

What they need in space are some "contested sectors" for the two sides in the GCW to fight over. I have been toying with the idea of instanced space sectors that thetwo sides could fight over. If I have time I might write the whole thing out and post it.

The biggest obsticle is the fact that most people do not enjoy JTL PvP. It is hard to have a GCW in space when you have 6 PvP pilots per side on some servers.

Pardon me for saying so, but this sounds a lot like a "what have you done for us lately" post. Keep in mind that content grows from the bottom up, and every month since release has seen some form of content. Just because it's not content for you at your level doesn't mean it's not content. Call it appeasement if you want, but it doesn't change the facts. Something new has been added to space every month since release. Even if it was just a minor space/ground mission that they never bothered to tell us about, it was there. Let me repeat this; something new has been added every month.

High end stuff like the FRS, the Corvette, and the DWBdidn't get added until the game was nearly a year or more old. Space itself is an addition to the ground game deliberately delayed so the ground content and economy could support it. Fast adopters have always had more faction and cash than they knew what to do with, because they've been ahead of the curve, it's not a symptom of a new problem.

In other words, I guess I'm saying get used to it. Until months go by where nothing is added to space, I'm gonna continue to feel that these cries of Dev neglect are just bored whining. Complain about bugs that need to be fixed, don't complain about lack of content.

All they really need to do is add stuff that ties the space game more into the ground game. For example, put in larger NPC freighters that can be disabled and boarded. While some players fight inside the freighter and try to loot its cargo before it blows up, other players have to stay in their fighters and defend the freighter against enemy NPC ships that will spawn in and try to either finish off the freighter, or dock with it themselves, thus causing new waves of enemy NPCs to spawn inside the freighter. For PvP, do the same thing but replace the freighters with static faction bases that can only be attacked, boarded, and captured by overt players in overt ships. What ever side controlled the most bases would then be given some sort of reward. Both of these ideas would allow both space-focused players and ground-focused players to work together or compete against each other towards the same goal while each still being able to do what they like best in the game.

That's exactly what space needs. Escort missions that don't actually go anywhere. Because the ones that move at 150 aren't boring enough.

Fleet battles and alarger space zones with planets as actual objects you can get closer to + atmospheric flight = win...

but that's 2 years off

The problem with escorts isn't that they're escorts, it's that they're not hard and you have no way of knowing how much further you have to go. I can think of one Storm Squadron mission where it's quite difficult to keep up with the spawns, and on that one Y-8 escort it's basically impossible for a single pilot to do so. Both of those are fun. Waiting around reading the forums between spawns with no idea whether you escort will be over in another 20 seconds or 20 minutes isn't.

Which is exactly what those ship takeovers will be. After each wave, the people in the ships get to send a message to their group "Are you almost done yet?". How long will those of us without combat skills be sitting out there? 10 minutes? Doubtful. They have to take over an entire Vette. I'm betting on half an hour to an hour. That doesn't sound like anything even vaguely resembling fun to me.

Hmmm, now what about the possibility of incoming waves of fighters who are going to try and stop your team from a successful takeover? The guys outside waiting could have the job of stopping them. Maybe if they get through, it would reinforce the NPC defenders onboard??

It could easily be made fun, by having various wrenches thrown in the works. Reinforcement boarding parties (escorted MP ships that try to dock, and if they succeed, new NPCs are added inside). Warning messages to the fighters that reinforcements might be coming from 1-2 other possible systems, and then it's up to the forces how to deploy for intercept. There are all sorts of things that could be done to make it more interesting than "kill wave #213 now" also side missions where the space defenders could find and steal access codes that would make the boarders work easier. All that off the top of my head after I read the pessimistic post. Imagine if I were actually paid.
