Hello fellow pilots.

Let me first say i was a Master RSF before and do know some how to kill NPC ships.

I fly a B22 with 2 red lvl 7 guns and a shield around 1750/1750

Anyways i just wanted to know how you other manage to safely kill a Gunboat thats not static or on a route in space (= meaning its after you)?

Im doing the Havok sq. right now and manage to get to 4434 without any help nor problems, just got to 50% shield at times when my wp brought me to spawn places.

The mission im doing nowis when you should assist B-wing sq to destroy a base. I fly in kill the escort of6-7 (dont remember)tier 4'sto the gunboat and it starts to hunt me down. I speed away about 2K recharge shield if its down.. turn and straf run.. turn and speed away.. etc. this takes lots of time.. should i aim for a specifik sub system? Like engine maybe? And by the way.. that damn gunboat do have good gunners.

Tell me your tricks

Tricky one, you need a fast responsive ship.

Flyinside the gunboat. If you end up on the outside. Boost away.

I just do what you're doing ... I've thought about trying to refine gunboat tactics, but it would only be possible during missions, since those are the gunboats that track you.

i think perhaps you're flying to far out to do the strafing run.

Typically i'll fly to 700m-1km out shield shunt of required then steam in at full speed. target the engine or reactor and blast away. once im just pulling level i'll tap my booster on to get out of range that bit quicker.

rinse and repeat

I target the engine or reactor and do strafing runs until I destroy that part. Then your strafing runs become easier, since it's not moving anymore. Now, you can either target the guns, or target the guns on the side that has fewer of them (usually the bottom)...or just keep strafing it until it dies. I'm not really sure there is a better tactic outside of strafing runs, except for bringing along wingmen. I'm not saying or implying that you need to bring wingmen, but you asked for tactics, and bringing a wingman or three is almost always a great tactic.

Enfeerno's tactic does work, but I consider it to be cheating...but to each their own.

One idea i had was to let it hunt me in to a spawn of friendly fighters.. they might take some of the fire then.. but in dathomir space not much is friendly to a Rebel pilot

Problem is i dont always have the patience to keep up the strafe runs.. so sometimes i stay in to long and get to much fire.. guess this is something i got to learn... beee patience.. not sure if the Mission will fail if it takes to long though..

Anyways thanks for the replys..

Pretty much what everyone else here is saying. If push comes to shove, though, don't be afraid to equip a Y-Wing Longprobe with two level 8 guns and your level 8 reward shield (if you've gotten it already), and a pair of MK3 proton launchers. The missiles themselves won't be enough to damage it significantly, but they'll add a little bit to each run. I assume you're using all the standard overloads.

Make sure you shoot for the engine or reactor to disable it. Once you've done that you'll be able to sit behind it in a safe place to finish it off. Alternately, you might also try shooting for the guns in order, starting with #0 and working your way down. That way you're removing teeth as you go and it won't bite as hard on the next run.

what ever you do do NOT sit behind it whilst the rear gun is still active. If you disable the ship via engine or reactor the best way to approach it is from directly underneat its belly. Come in straight at its underside and park up 300m odd away. this is its blindspot and you can sit here safely until it explodes in a pile of pretty sparks.

Someone mention its a exploit flying on the inside of the gunboat.. im just curious how do you mean inside? like belly? or how?

If the gunboat steams after it will try to point the nose towards me all the time.

Im only curious on different tactics.. im not in the game just to force grind to master all the time.. like many do

By the way the last mission for Tier 4 (Havok sq) will not fail even if the rebel (nym) fighter group gets blasted and you fail the first part to kill them incl. the gunboat. You will get another mission to defend the retreat of some alliance bombers. At the new wp you will fight lots of Tie's, cant say what happens after this because i had to boost away and logout (IRL events came in between).

Also, make sure that you target the same end of the ship. not a big issue when running hth, but still quite important if you wanna do it fast.

Are you doing the gunboats for the Kashyyyk space station quest by chance?

I did not say exploit, I said that I personally consider it to be a cheap way to beat them.

The tactic: Gunboats do not have collision as you may or may not have noticed, depending on whether or not you fly by or through them. You can use this to your advantage by getting *inside* the graphic of the gunboat, matching speed, and firing. That's it ina nutshell. Use the tactic or don't. I personally do not, and I do not believe SOE has explicitly stated that it is an exploit (can someone confirm this, one way or the other). So, it could be a perfectly viable tactic.

I was not judging Enfeerno for using it...I was just stating my opinion for my own personal play ethics. I apologize if it came out that way.

No its not the kashyyyk space station quest.. but i do think the GB's behave the same there. Like the mission you can get from the YT1300 that circle close to Kashyyyk station.

Its the 4'th tier 4 mission for Havok sq.
