No problem.

Actually, I should have used a different word, since cheating = exploit in almost all cases.

Kill the engine. Then look for its blind spot.

Lets use our imagination:

this is an imperial gunboat I==>

I==>

Ok.... maybe you need a lot of imagination lmao!

If its a YE-4, just stick and move on Gun #2. Come in directly behind it and its the only one you have to compete with.

Once I take out the engine, I'll usually sit at 550m in front of the gunboat and blast away ... I just went to all that work taking out those shields, I'm going to take advantage of it!

In my experience, the max range of gun #2 on a YE-4 is about 525m. The max range on starfighter guns is 550. I sit behind them all day in the 528-535 range blasting away and never get hit. It's much easier to maintain this position than one beneath the ship, at least while it's moving. Once it's disabled there are a few blind spots, but the range of the gunboats's guns is typically much shorter than the range of a starfighter.

You need to use the <PRE> command if you edit as HTML. That'll make it show up exactly as you type it every time

Yeah, why beat it clean when you can exploit a range bug?

Shift your shield's forward a little bit, since you'll probably take more fire to the front than the rear, however don't shift them too much. Shield Adjust1 or 2should be enough. Fly directly at the gunboat. He'll probably be facing you, so try to come in from a tad below his nose, so that his top guns can't fire at you. Target his engines or reactor and hit him with as many shots as you can while closing on him. Once you come up to him, pitch down a bit so that you fly beneath him, then hit your booster, go into a hard roll, and pitch all the way up. That will put you into a corkscrew manuever as you boost away from him. Once you get out of range, wait until your shields are at full strength again, and then turn back around, and repeat the attack again. Once you've disabled the gunboat's engine or reactor, he'll stop moving and then you can just move into one of his blind spots and finish him off with ease. For this mission, you also might want to switch to a crafted, high-speed engine, rather than an RE'd one, since flat out speed will be of more importance against the gunboat. I'd also consider switching to a stronger shield for the mission.

Is it an exploit that the vette/ISD can shoot you from 1k away but you can't?

I like to fly circles around the gunboats while shooting them to strip away the weapons. it is good practice for dodging the vette's blaster fire
