Two major issues drive me to this conclusion.
1.) Faction Balance: I'm talking about numbers of players in each faction. I love the idea of each faction having different ships that serve different purposes but let's face it, if they don't all stand on equal footing at Master/Ace then we will begin to see an imbalance in terms of the number of players in each faction. IMHO this type of disparity doesn't serve the game well at all.
2.) PvP: Right now PvP in JTL has tremendous potential but very few players are taking advantage of it. I have two JTL characters. One is an Imp SS Ace and one is a RSF Master Pilot. Every time I launch into space the first thing I do is declare at the Imperial station yet I've had only one or two PvP encounters. The more balanced these three ships are the more likely players will be open to PvP... and PvP is one of the few activites at Master/Ace so it only makes sense to balance it as much as possible.
Now I've never flown the B-Wing but I can tell you that I've completely crushed the few that I've met so far in PvP so I know that they are way too slow and sluggish. The Oppressor is nice and small but with 170K mass and only two projectiles I just don't use it as much as my Krayt.
The Krayt right now is the only ship I use when I want to deliver serious pain upon my enemies. I had my alt craft up a lvl 9 engine and geared it all towards YPR. Now it can get behind Tier 5 A-Wings with no problem and annihilate them with it's four massive blasters. Sure the Krayt is almost twice as big as my Oppressor but the turret has a 360 degree view and serves as a capable deterrent to anyone that wants to sneak up behind me.
I guess the bottom line here is that the Rebs and Imps need access to ships with very similar capabilites. Otherwise Master Pilot with become the TKM/MD of JTL...

Doh, time to nerf my beautiful krayt now? I don't mind if they beef up the B-Wing and the Oppressor, but I don't wanna lose one iota of capability on my Krayt
BTW, I agree with you on one thing. I have a Firespray, which used to be my favorite ship, but now it's in storage ever since the Krayt came out. Love this ship.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. No nef on the Krayt. I love my Krayt. I want to make a little model of it and put it under my pillow when I sleep.
I'm just saying that Imps and Rebs need similar ships at Master to keep the interest all factions balanced. Just like with the MP ships. They all basically have the same stats and characteristics...

I disagree.
The neutrals needed a good ship and they got it. The best thing about JTL is that instead of all the ships being equal you have to make a choice on the role for a particular mission.
Now PVP wise I have killed a few imps in my Xwing and so have alot of my friends. We have killed Firesprays and Oppresors alike all in Deep space.
Out of all the ships the Xwing suits me, other rebels I know like the Awing. Some PVP with both. Not because of the chassis YPR differences but because as pilots we are very good with our weapon of choice due to comfort and maybe some RP type issue.
The moment we make all the master ships the same we are gonna hit that Composite of space crap. I like that my bwing is a capitol ship killer and not a snub fighter. it makes sense continuity wise. When we do vette runs I take the Bwing. When we PVP in deepspace I take the X.
The system works I don't see a reason to change it.

I disagree... I think it's nice that all three factions have fighters with different characteristics at master. After all, if everybody had the same ship at master, it would detract from skill being the focus for who is better and put more emphasis on who has the best components. Not that those aren't important too, but I like a focus on actual skill.
I can also see PvP value in several of the ships, not just the master ship. The differences in engine YPR/speed modifiers in some ships makes them useful in the hands of a skilled pilot, even if they have to sacrifice mass in order to have a more maneuverable ship.
I think it's fine as-is, and brings diversity to the table. It'd be a shame to make each faction identical aside from the appearance of the fighter.

Have to disagree as well. Im a Alliance Ace and have only PvP'd a few times, all of which where in my X-wing. However, last night when i finally saved up enough money for a B-wing and went into deep space. it was soooooooooo easy to take out those imperial Gunboats that had obliterated me in my X-wing. But then a pair of PC Agressors showed up and toasted me and i just laughed because in sure it was the funniest thing to watch me try and go into evasive meanuvers in a B-Wing. It is, simply put a flying cow.
ok got off topic, so anyway i agree that WE CAN'T MAKE ALL SHIPS THE SAME. I like that each faction is different and that each ship equiped with the right stuff can kill anyother ship, ok except for the novice ships and the tie fighter. The Alliance have the best all purpose fighters, the privateer have the best bombers/Hvy Fighters and the Imps have some of the fastest fighters.

while i agree that the ships should not be the same, they should still be BALANCED.
right now the bwings only advantage is 30k mass over a krayt, and that the pilot can fire the forth gun without a gunner (not that your ever gonna hit with the forth gun in the bwing). for that 30k mass it has the same manuverabilty as the nova (the stats are identical) while the tie-opp and krayt fly way better than even the y-wing. now while i like the idea of the bwing being a heavy bomber, at least give it a serious advantage over the krayt in the heavy attack department, like even more mass or a couple more missle slots. as it is now the krayt is just as good at heavy attack but flys much better.

I own both.
Bwing - 4 pilot controlled blaster weapons and 2 missle tubes
t-22 - 3 pilot controlled blaster weapons and 1 missle tube, 1 turret gunner controlled blaster weapon.
30K is a big difference mass wise. When I point the bwing at a gun or system on the corvette, that gun/system get's vaporized with 2 advanced and 2 heavies all hitting it at once.
and the same thing would happen with your krayt, but you would be able to manuver around and make another pass in half the time.
the vette is a bad example since its components take less damage than a tier4 fighter, my awing will blow up a vette component in 2-3hits. since it takes so little damage to take out capital ship systems, the only thing that matters is your survivability and manuverability to get in and out of their arc of fire.
a better example is a gunboat since they can absorb huge ammounts of damage and ask for seconds. but then agian i think it would still be much easier in the krayt since you would be much more capable of getting in the blind spot and staying there. the bwing can dish out a bit more damage if you dont have a gunner, but if you do have one the krayt has a clear advantage in damage output since you will still have 1 gun hitting even while you are repositioning back into the blind spot.
as for the 30k mass, thats only 12.5% less for the krayt while the bwing takes a much larger hit in manuverability. it still has 210k mass, its not like its hurting in that dept, the extra 30k on a bwing just means you get to spluge on using those two missle mounts or mabee put a huge booster in. its not like its going to make or break your loadout.
the problem with the ballance is we have the tie-opp which cant hit near as hard as a bwing or m-22, we have the bwing which can really dish it out but flys the same as an MP ship, and we have the krayt which hits almost as hard as a bwing with the performace of a tie-opp.

One primary part of balancing is the weapon loadout.
First thing SOE needs to do is address missles, because missles ARE part of the loadout, their just underused and not effective, therefore discounted by the players.
SOE however, doesnt discount missles.
Look at the opressor
2 guns, 3 missles = 5 total hardpoints.
then the B wing
4 guns, 1 missle = 5 total hardpoints
Krayt
3 guns, 1 turrent (techincally 4 total guns), 1 missle = 5 hardpoints.

The only problem here is the krayt, it's too good compared to the others. Of course the freelancers don't want it to be nerfed. Instead all the others would be generously asked to rebuy their oppressors (2nd time) and bwings againIF they were adjusted to the krayt. The krayt is just another bad design decision taken that is somewhere but not in balance with anything (not even with the firespray...).
Now if you want toadjust the oppressor and bwing i think you'd have to give the oppressor about 25 - 50% more manouverability (PYR, acc/dec) and give the bwing at least 1 more missile slot and around 20k - 40k more mass. They shouldn't be almost similar in stats since that would take most of the diversity from the three different pilot profs.
But the question is what they'll do, nerf the krayt or adjust the others. It's nicenot to call for a nerf obviously, but that doesn't mean it won't happen since the chance is 50% for that if the devs don't care about nerfing a newly introduced ship again (which might not be the case).
And Ducimus calc is sure right although i really hope this naive fallacy is just a contingency and not how decisions are made for JTL.
I also think that the missiles aren't really underpowered from the mass point of view the launchers need(concussion mark III around 5500k - 6000k mass, spacebomb mark II, seismic launcher mark III around 14k mass). But i think everyone will agree with me that another important factor with missiles is the cost, which is in higher levels prettysteep (ranging from1k to 2.5k of credits per shot at least if you are lucky to find a shipwright with normal pricing on them). So, creating a hardpoint "balance" in that kind of way is non-sense anyways.
And if i may add something to the krayt and PvP... Having three guns for pilot and even one 360° turrent seems pretty out of place as well since only that can make it unbeatable in capable hands.

Personally I could care less, Im happy privateers have it better, after having had to listen to people call privateers whiners and say that we should have inferior ships. Now those that stuck with privateer can have a good chuckle.

What needs to be done is simple. A dev at SOE needs to code up a really big crowbar and give one to every single person to use to pry themselves out of the box they're thinking in.
B-Wing has a role. It's a bomber. A really powerful bomber. Just because its in the Master box doesn't mean its role changes in the slightest. That's ground gamementality and pure ego talking. The mentality set by the ground game that the most powerful ability should be in the last box to train. And the ego that won't let a person fly anything below the Master box without feeling wrong.
