I got a powerful "Null" bolt cannon, was considerably powerful. Rail gun looks like fun.
I hear the engines are not as good as most lootable engines and the same goes with the boosters, but Shields are good, I don't care what people say... Elite Shields on my YT-1300 make it nearly impervious to most ships in the galaxy.
I don't pvp often though, its up to you really. Some loot is often better then crafted products.

WEll for PoB ships I have alway preferred the beam weapons that can do equal damage to armor and shields. I only use the other two when I have a starfighter that has multiple weapon slots that have the same fireing arc. The turrets on the PoB ship do not have the same fireing arc and it is more beneficial to have a weapon that will do a good amount of damage to both shields and armor.

POB engines and boosters are crippled by a problem with the way resource calculations work right now. IIscandar's been pushing to get them fixed, though.
As far as the stuff that works goes, the shields are awesome and the Null Bolts and reactors are pretty good. Definitely a step up from level 9 gear. Armor's slightly better, too, but considering the cost on this for something that'll be decaying constantly, I dunno whether it's worth it.

Me, I like the Gauss Cannon. Not so hot against armour, but it'll out-perform most REd L10 guns against shields.
And who carries tons of armour anyway?

shipwrights make them out of 50% asteroid minerals, making them expensive too.

Tomo - I have POB engines and boosters on my YT and don't have any problems with them. My YT travels 1187 non booster and 1550 with booster (those are also with engine overload 3).
Deconfrost - The POB ships are any ship that you can get in walk around in and have multiple persons in. These ships are the Nova courier, YT-1300, Decimator, and the Sorosuub 3000 yacht (although the yacht can't be managed).

Experimentation is messed up on POB engines and boosters due to the fact their schematics call for resources that don't have some of the stats (such as PE) that are used in the experimentation process.
So they'll work fine, but a POB engine might have a speed of 115, whereas I can craft a level 9 that's lighter and much cheaper with a speed of 119.2. Likewise with boosters; I don't know how POB ones turn out, but I know they're not as good as my 50.5-speed 9s.
IIscandar's been pressing for a fix on these. The devs are working on it, but we don't have an ETA yet.

POB shields - These are awsome and I would recommend these to anyone who uses a POB ship, better than anything currently crafted or looted
.
Rail Guns - The POB weapons are also better than anything currently crafted, though some looted ones can have better damage. The MASS involved with these makes their use limited however, but they do pack a nice punch.
Capacitors - The POB Caps are very nice as well but again you can get looted caps with slightly lower stats and a tiny fraction of the mass, so once again limited use.
Boosters - I haven't made any POB boosters yet so can't really comment on these.
POB Engines - I was really dissapointed in these, your better off getting standard engines crafted by your shipwright.
I think there's a few POB items I left out there, but this should cover most of them. As I recall ALL POB items are 250k mass, so if your sitting on a ship that's got 5mill mass then it's not a huge issue to equip POB's on everything useful, but if your in one of the standard 500k mass ships this can be a huge decision to pick which one item to use.
I would recommend that the POB shields be your first POB item. It's been a while since I made mine but as I recall I pulled in around 3k front/back on the shields and it still has roughly a 19 recharge rate on it, both stats drastically surpass any other shields. With a slightly different build you can drop your max shield to 2800/2800 and bring your recharge up to something like 24. so there are a few options for you to toy with. These stats are based on memory so are not 100% accurate but should at least give you an idea of how those shields turned out
.
