POB engines and boosters are crippled by a problem with the way resource calculations work right now. IIscandar's been pushing to get them fixed, though.

As far as the stuff that works goes, the shields are awesome and the Null Bolts and reactors are pretty good. Definitely a step up from level 9 gear. Armor's slightly better, too, but considering the cost on this for something that'll be decaying constantly, I dunno whether it's worth it.

While I agree that the shields are better then anything else out there, they're still not good enough considering the massive size and lack of maneuverability for POB ships. Shields need to be much stronger in my opinion.

As for the Null Bolts, I agree they're pretty good, but not good enough for a POB ship. Think about it, on my X-Wing I can take three top-quality blasters, say for an average of 3000 damage each, meaning I'm doing 9000 damage in one volley, while the turrets on POB ships are only doing 3000-4000 damage each: that's significantly less then half the damage that the X-Wing is doing, yet the X-Wing is much more agile, smaller, AND not to mention that it's hard tohit things with turrets already. So, either the POB Elite weapons need to be boosted by almost twice what they are now, or turret movement needs to be made so it's not tied to the ship movement, or turrets need to be able to fire ordnance (much more likely that the turret will be able to get a lock on the target and then fire off an ordnance quickly, meaning if a ship flies into range of a turret for just 1-3 seconds then he's likely to be locked on and hit with ordnance even after he flies out of the turrets range, where as with blasters the target just has to juke in and out of the turrets range and it makes them almost impossible to hit, or even when they are hit they just go out of range and shunt. It always needs to be remembered that POB ships cannot pursue their target, so they need to be able to 1) outlast the opponents attack without too much trouble and 2) be able to destroy the target quickly, before they go out of range.

I really, really want POB ships to be viable in PvP space combat, and PvE for that matter, but right now it is FAR, FAR more efficient for 4 people to load up into fighters then it is for them to be in a POB ship. This is the underlying issue, and whenever judging stats on the POB Elite parts we need to say "is that part worth 4 seperate fighters?".

Definately agree with you there. I think PvP damage across the board needs to be reduced, since even battles between the pea-shooters last for only a few brief seconds. Reduce PvP damage and it gives a role for heavier ships such as the B and Y-wings as well, since now their massive firepower doesn't go to waste and the pea-shooters can't destroy them in a matter of seconds. Or, as I suggested in another thread, add in an inherit damage mitigation for each craft, based upon its mass (the higher the mass, the higher the damage mitigation).

Even if that were done though, I'd still hope for the POB Elite Components to be given a boost, again because it's nowhere near as effective as 4 seperate fighters flying around. It's so easy to take damage in POB ships due to their size and lack of maneuverability, and it's very hard to deal damage in them due to the way turrets work and the ordnance being at the front of the ship that cannot maneuver enough to follow the target (and if the pilot is trying to maneuver to lock on to a target, the turrets become essentially useless, or vice versa, so really only one set of weapons can be used on a POB ship at any one time: either the turrets or the ordnance).

Well, when I use terms like "awesome" and "pretty good," that's speaking relatively.

I'm not even sure there's a way to boost the actual POB components enough to put them at a level that makes them an effective use of pilots. For instance, what if you gave them shields with 80,000 HP? That might finally make them useful in PVP, but that's a distaster in PVE.

What they really need is a total shift in the very system by which they're damaged in PVP, and if you really wanted to do it right, you'd find a way to give them some other advantages that give them some kind of role that can't be filled by 4 pilots in 4 separate ships. There's just no way to make the components themselves as powerful as they need to be without throwing some aspect of the game entirely out of whack.

Because JTL is set up on the same borked system that existed in the ground game before the Combat Upgrade. The rulesets for PvE are not the same as the rulesets for PvP and any attempt to balance one screws the other.

The two systems need to operate on somewhat similar principles to make balancing work for both, which means either PvE or PvP needs a major retooling. You cannot balance one system at a time without artificial multipliers which we all know didn't work before.

I made a Null Bolt cannon the other day and I must say I wasn't very impressed. It's about the same stats as an average lvl10 blaster except it's faster but has way lower shield/armor ratios. So in short I'd much rather have a nice RE'ed lvl10 blaster. However it is significantly easier to get the null blaster crafted than it is to find enough and the right lvl10 blasters for a good RE.

So ultimately it still has it's uses but dont' expect anything grand out of the POB weapons.

The shields on the other hand I love. My POB shields came out as roughly 3150/3150 with a recharge of 19.74, which is just awsome.

Nut Bolt, with a mark 5 quick shot upgrade. I have a pair with .260 refire, though I've heard of better. I'll bet these rock for tracking. They have an awsome effect too.

Null Bolt with quickshot. I use a pair on my nova and they do ROCK at .260 refire. Even my poor turret gunners cant miss when they spray that many shots.

My POB shields come out to 3175 or so for the front/back, with a recharge of 19.74. I haven't bothered with the POB armor yet but I hit roughly 2600 on the markV armor as is.
