Thread: Please help me kill faster

I could use some recomendations on taking out a gunboat faster. I'm on my last Inquisition mission, and I am doing rather well with it. After refining my tactics a bit, I have stopped getting blown up, which is good. However, the gunboat is now despawning on me because I take too long, which is not. I'm flying a Heavy TIE, and I think that the single gun slot is really what is killing me. I am generally able to chip away at the thing's shields and armor, but when I get the engines down to about 75-86%, it despawns on me. Taking too long is my guess.

My current tactic has been to agro the gunboat and escorts, fly about 3k away from the gunboat, turn around, and stop. When the escorts come into range, I open fire on the lot of them, and take out what I can. Once they've past me, I turn to my left and get away from the gunboat again, effectively making a big square in space. Once the escorts are dead, I joust the gunboat. I am pretty sure I do it the standard way, blast at the front of the thing, try to duck under it when I pass to avoid as many guns as I can, and Cap to Shield Shunt until shields have regenerated. I try to make sure I have CtSS ready to use again before I turn around, which is probably also costing me extra time. But sometimes it gets in a lot of good shots, and having it ready is a lifesaver. Last time I tried this mission, he only barely scratched my armor, so I'm getting better at this, but I'm still too slow.

My equipment setup:
Reactor - 11894 gen rate, 2090.2 mass
Engine - 1642.1 drain, 9344 mass, 67.4/68.9/69.6 P/Y/R, 82.2 top speed
Shield - 2647.5 drain, 27031 mass, 2555 front and back, 14.32 regen
Front Armor - 891.8 armor, 1320 HP, 5892 mass (probably will replace this soon, took too much beating)
Rear Armor - None
Capacitor - 790.7 drain, 7725 mass, 1193 energy, 43.6 recharge
Booster - 535 drain, 8247 mass, 1887 energy, 52.4 recharge, 167 consumption, 39.2 acceleration, 29.3
speed
Droid Interface - 488 drain, 7214 mass, 15.6 speed
Weapon - 2800 drain, 21838 mass, 1910-2953 damage, 0.500 vs. shields and armor, 27.2 energy/shot, 0.340
refire

Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

well IMO you should get a ship with a 2nd gunslot and try using spacebombs.. are you using droid commands? or bomber strike?

Always using droid commands. EO3, WO3, CO3, RO3, CtSS4. Bomber Strike, when I can. They hate me. I get 3 "fumbled authorization codes", or whatever it is, to every one sucessful BStrike I call. Don't ask me why. Even as an ace on Treena, I get that.

doh :/ if you can get a jsf or a grevious starfighter.. makes quite a diffrence =) not much of an advice but.. heavy mass TIE is a bit crappy in your situation and is also easier to hit

If that's a crafted gun, switch it out for a High Speed instead of damage experimented one.

If that were an L7 RE job, I'd say get one that exceeds 3k and has much better vs ratings.

Maybe just bit the bullet and kit out an Advance with 2 guns, or use an REd Borstel from your previous profession.

If this is one of them chaser gunboats, which it sounds like, whatI did to the ones in my storm squadron missions is:I would start jousting with the gunboatfirst to take out the engine. If your shields are good and you use the CtSS smartly, you can deal with the fighter hits. once it's stuckI would then lure the fighters away and put and end to em. Then go back after and finish the gunboat. Worked for me, maybe give it one tryand see what happens.

Actually, that is my Borstel. Un REd. I don't have the spare parts to RE it at the moment. I've considered getting an Advanced, but it still seems semi wasteful for one mission.

Joust and blow the engine, it's cake after that.

No, thats a Boltdriver. A Borstel is an L8 gun with 3600 max before RE

Eh, it was something with a B. I'll be the first to admit that I don't look at names. I don't have a Borstel yet. So far, I've only done Inquisition (almost finished my second run through there) and Crimson Phoenix. CorSec is next on my list, but no neutral parts for me yet, REd or otherwise.

That's my current tactic. The problem is that the gunboat is despawning before I can blow the engines up.

3k is a bit far. You might just be going to far in and out on your runs.

By my rough calculations you arent using all your mass, and still have about 10k.

Using the heavy TIE you should be able to fit a level 9 quickfire crafted. Switch to a high speed crafted engine for this mission. And go after the gunboat first to disable it then take the fighters.
