The Krayt still has 30k more mass than that, and the same weapon loadout for the pilot, plus a turret for a gunner. Of course, it turns like a tugboat compared to an X-Wing though.

That explains it.
The heavy xwing.. is not a chassis modfication via strakes then like the ROTW pre release info would lead some of us ( *cough* me) to beleive.
So.... zee strakes... zey do nothing!
Yup. I've got strakes on my regular X-Wing. They add a little bulk to each side, so it makes it look a bit meaner, I guess. Something like 100 armor, 50 hit points. They were the first things to get disabled when I got jumped by some Tier 4/5 guys in Endor space. After a repair, they're now 90 armor, 45 hit points I think. (I'm not in-game to check)
As far as I can tell, the strakes are simply a visual modification.

mass is a factor, but it isnt THAT much of a factor. At least not to a JTL wrenchmonkey. Once you learn how to build into 65K mass chassis with 2 gunmounts, a 100K chassis looks like heavan.. a 180K chassis? i think i just died.
I fear the worst fo PvP though.
Ill bet the imperials get a version similar to this, the heavy T/A. Ill bet its like 145K mass.
Hypermanuverable fighters will now get alot faster now that they have the mass to fit in L8 engines alot easier now.

An Advanced X-wing is still an X-wing and thus won't be able to keep up with TIE-A's, A-wings, and the new Jedi and Grievous Starfighters in PVP. This baby will likely stay a premier PVE ship like the Krayt.

I am a bit confused ... is your job to disable an Imperial Corvette and Rebel Gunboats come to help? or is it Imperial Gunboats that come to hurt?

Dunno if anyone managed to get this during beta, so I'll post the details.
The Advanced X-wing deed is a reward for completing the Kashyyyk space station quests as a Rebel pilot. The last mission, taken from the Rebel Space Station in Kashyyyk and request by telling the station "I'm looking for a challenge!", is to disable a Corvette and escort it back to the station. The enemy spawns start as mixed tier 2-4 fighters, but eventually Tier 5 Rebel Gunboats join the mix, armed with missiles. Three such boats spawned for me in total, but I was still able to beat the mission. The gunboats, once they expended their missiles, just couldn't hurt the vette -- they weren't shooting their lasers at the reactor, just at general locations across the body. Thus, the vette just plodded along its merry way while I shunted my capacitor around 100 times to stay alive. Of course, the gunboats didn't despawn when the mission succeeded, and proceeded to kill me three times while I tried to make it back to the station... so I guess it evened out
.
The reward is the Advanced X-wing: identical hardpoints to her smaller cousin, but with a chassis of 2000 and mass of 180k. *whistle*

The Corvette was once an Alliance ship and was hijacked by pirates flying Freelancer ships. You have to disable it, at which point it becomes your escort target. A bunch of Freelance ships spawn to stop you, and they just so happen to bring Rebel-style gunboats along with them. Sorry if that wasn't clear; the gunboats aren't Rebel aligned, just the Rebel model.

Well, these ones are extremely aggressive. They never sit still and chase you all around the place. And they have missiles
