Thread: Landing in cities

Here's an idea i came up with a little while ago about how to land in cities. Have Architechs be able to make landing pads that could fit 4-6 ships.

They could be placed in a city like a garden. The mayor would have to grant landing rights to people and one spot on the pad would be reserved for one person and one ship. Animations would be like shuttels landing and taking off. POB ships can me like houses in the sense you can go in and out of them while walking around, and could take up 2 landing spots on the pad. Pilots would have to pay a tax on the spots they take up.

Like? Dislike? Anything to Add?

Sounds cool if it worked.

They should also include starship landing gear clamping for those parked illegallly .

Don't like. NPC cities are dead enough as it is.

The landing pad would have to have some sort of landing fee to compensate for the loss from the shuttleport. As far as the NPC cities.... who cares. This would mean that I might never have to see some "l33t" jackassesswinging thier glowbatsin the starport or get invited to groups before I am even finished loading? Hell yeah...I am all for this. Excellent idea.

EDIT: BTW this would increase the traffic through player cities and be good for business for everyone.

Well, like i said. The spots would be reserved by the mayor, and the pilots would have to pay a tax on their spot. If the mayor doesn't want to see the sight of your 1337 TIE bomber in her city, then you are stuck in the starport.

I think that it would be MUCH better if these were made available as a player housing option. That way it is INDEPENDENT of a city, which history shows can be immediately destroyed if some vindictive nerf herder gets elected as mayor...

The Landing Port homes could hold one single POB and one starfighter at the same time, when landed, both vessels could show up on the landing platform, this would only work with (possibly) Luxury Yachts and (definately) the original 3 POBs, Y-8's are simply to big and shaped wrong for this sort of thing.

The POB would be accessible as a regular home and there could be one or two "out buildings" on the landing port to allow the player to have a land-based location to host a shop and or storage area. The POB and other ship would only be visible/accessible, if the player chooses to land there with that ship.

It's a complicated thing to implement, but might be easier to implement then having to create something to handle the potential destruction of a Player City Starport.

That sounds pretty cool too but just from the size of space needed for that thing I am sure it would take 8+lots. I think it would worth it though.

Yeah, it probably would take up near 8 lots.

I actually don't believe that this will happen for a significant period of time though. We might be able to fly airspeeders well before there is a possibility of something like this.

I actually think that one day they might include something like this, if and when it is possible to massively increase the size of space zones to allow us to take off and land by flying straight at a planet or straight off the planet.

POBs are already sabout the same size as a medium house, that would make these house too big.

I always thought there should be two possibilities.

The top of a guild hall would be perfect for a small landing pad. It'd be a nice perk for the owner of the structure. Maybe two or three starfighters only?

Or...

Make player space stations. Trick is, the stations are "linked" to a level 4 or level 5 city. Only one station is allowed per city, and no stations are allowed to exist without a city. Landing on the station would allow a player to port directly to the city the station is linked to.

Ever seen a guild hall?easily the size of 2 medium houses and they have multiple levels not to mention they are only 6 lots

EDIT: added quote for clearification because I am brain dead and didn't remember to include it in the first place

I own a guild hall. I'm thinking of using the roof as a landing pad...but there would only be space up there for a snubfighter or two, I think.
