So, after having ground through all the factions and squadrons in JTL, I have come to the conclusion that my least favorite ship isthe Y-Wing.
As an Imp pilot, I had to fly all the ships as there was not much choice in the first 3 tiers. Flying freelance, I flew all the ships which I found to be acceptable, but favored the dunelizard for the grind... the kryat is awsome!
Rebel... what can I say? After the Z-95, which sucks compared to the other noob ships, then you get the Y-wing
You can argue its not a bad ship IF you have good crafted and RE'ed parts and the pre-nerf reward engine that ppl brag about - but never use because they don't want to decay it. But then you can say that about any ship. ( A opressor with uber parts is still more uber than a Y-wing with uber parts )
But if starting out as a fresh pilot without a lot of cash for good RE and crafted parts, the Aliance pilot route is possibly the roughest! Fortunately it's eventually balanced out with the X-wing and a-wing, which are indeed fun ships to fly.

Let me add that the Y-Wing should be called the WHY-Wing. It sucks ass.

Have you flown the Bwing? Try that before saying that the Ywing is a bad ship.

You talk about a lot of ships, and a lot of gear, but very little about the ship central to your point(?). Personally, I would much rather have a Ywing with essentially unlimited mass (for my level), and learn to fly a harder to handle ship, than I would to be in the Imperial situation with ships that lack mass and require parts selection to fit. A Ywing pilot can fit any loot he can use, no questions asked. Big armor? No problem. Heavy shield loot? sure thing! Only good reactor you've found weighs 10k? great, bring it! Wanna try countermeasures and missiles too? sure thing slap them in.
Money is easy to come by in JtL, for any faction. More than enough to slap all sorts ofdecent partson a Ywing, and have a good time learning to fly.
It's obvious you never took a buddy up in a Ywing and played around. Having a gunner is one of the more fun things to do in JtL. Since your post seems to look at ships as only a means to a grind, I guess I can see you're not in it for that.
If you care to post a few actual hard objections to the Ywing itself as a ship, let's hear them. Compare all the tier1 ships if you like. Most everyone will agree the Dunelizard is the best, but saying the Ywing is worse than the Basic TIE? c'mon...

when I did the rebel squadrons, I stopped upgrading ships after the Y-Wing Longprobe. I had used the X-Wing on my other account, and found the Longprobe to be far superior in a fight thanks to it's heavier load out. As for the A-Wing, I've never liked the ultra light craft. Sure they may be fast, but they can't take any damage. I would argue that the Y-Wing Longprobe is possibly the best ship the rebels get (I haven't experimented with the master level ships yet, but I've got my eye on that B-Wing)

In comparison to other ships, it's still a pig to fly.

I made a point that any other ship with the same good parts will be better than the Y-wing (but Ididn't mention for a similar mass limit..oops! obviously a light TIE wouldn't be much of a match)

I have taken a buddy up in a Y-wing, still a terrible ship to fly. Try a Kryat or aggressor with a gunner? Those are way better in a fight. I have fun with JTL, it's the only reason I play SWG. To assume I don't have fun is a mistake as I do interact and play with others. This is a mmorpg.

Actually, I did better in the basic TIE than the Y-wing (Ties 1, switched to TIE/ln for 2nd tier..still did better than y-wing). but, as you say, once the mass limit kicks in the Y-wing is better. However there are better ships to be had.
Looking forward to trying the B-wing >_<

So, what you're saying is, that the only thing that bugs you is it handles poorly. Everyone knows that. It doesn't make it a bad ship though. There are plenty of things that can be done to compensate for that, and none of them cost oodles of credits.
Bad handling doesn't make a ship bad overall.

Based on the original posters logic, bad handling makes for a bad ship. That's why I said to try the Bwing before judging the Ywing so harshly. I loved the Ywing when I did rebel pilot because it has the mass to load up with high level equipment.

Sorry, but mass is a poor substitute for agility. A fast, agile ship can kill far more quickly (less looping around and more chasing the target right up his tailpipe) and can avoid many shots more than heavier armor and shields can take.
The perfect compromise is the Krayt, in my opinion. She's very agile and fast for her size, with 210k mass. The longprobe simply has too many drawbacks to compare to the Krayt.

By the way, if we're talking PVP... shields and armor amount to nearly squat. It's only my enormous firepower that keeps my Krayt at least competitive with the smaller ships. One hit, boom.

I personally can't stand the Y-wing. But in no way is it a bad ship.
Just suits a different playing style than I like.
For Reb ships give me an A or a Y.

I found the Y-Wing comparable to the TIE Bomber, and I wouldn't really complain about either one because they're true to thier reputation.....as sluggish and heavy and tough.

I think the Y handles slightly better than the TIE bomber, and almost the same as a TIE Oppressor.
