Thread: Y-Wing: Possibly the worse ship in the game

I think the ideal Ywing engine is am REjpb based onthe privateer reward engine from tier4. L8, REd for great PYR, and by then, also great top speed and not overwhelming mass. Great choice if you can get ahold of one.
PS- If we're talking about Ywings as flying ceramics, you can think of mine as one of those highly balanced juggling plates.

That what I use in my Y-wing. It handles pretty well with a good engine. Almost as well as an oppressor.
Im master pilot and have 3 permenant ship slots. And the Y-wing takes one. So yes I rate it highly.
Out of ALL the ships that you can take a non-master friend to DS in the Y-wing is the best.
Why?
Because it actually isnt too bad at PvP. A krayt is the size of a block of flats. The aggressors rear gun isnt too helpful. And as for the POB ships...
I havent pvped much in it as I only use it when a guildy wants to see DS. But last time I was up I took on two player oppressors at once and won. I killed one straight away after a bit of a turning match. Turned to the other and my gunner had somehow already taken him out! How about that! Nice one Headsplitter.

Most of my comments are based on the Longprobe, I don't have anyone to play gunner for me so I abandoned the straight Y-Wing.
Trying to tangle with fighters is simply not what the Y-Wing was designed for. Remove the high performance fighters from the mix and you have the heavies, Kimogila, Oppressor, TIE Bomber, etc. Even at Tier 2 with stock parts I could pound ships like that into submission easily because of the mass that allowed a massive weapons loadout and heavy shields and armor.
When it comes to the role the Y-Wing is built for, bombing, it just flat kicks ass. We can argue components but the previous posts are correct. Great components can make a weak ship really nasty. However, with so much mass to play with you can build the thing into a tank, mix high penetration weapons and have missiles in both ordnance slots and you've got a whole world of hurt coming down.
I have killed a gunboat in two passes with this kind of configuration. Now, this was with high end parts, but nonetheless it was basically a toe to toe slugging match. The heavy shields and armor allowed me to remain in the slot and just pound the gunboat. By the end of the second pass it was dead and I had no front armor but that was about it. This was a Tier4 gunboat that wasn't just following a road.
No, the Y-Wing is not a great all around ship, but for its role it's a monster.
I'm just trying to get together the RE'd components to put lvl 8 guns in both slots and where I can put lvl 2 spacebombs in both ordnance slots. Matched with the appropriate heavy armor and shields, it will be a beautiful thing. I want my flying tank. =)
Just my 2 credits worth. I dumped my A-wing to bring the Y out of retirement.
I dropped it and shifted to Rebel specifically to fly the Y-Wing. =)
From the time I saw the first movie it has always been my favorite. Until the Jedi Starfighter in EP2. I would really love to see those sleek little devils in play.

You can argue its not a bad ship IF you have good crafted and RE'ed parts and the pre-nerf reward engine that ppl brag about - but never use because they don't want to decay it. But then you can say that about any ship. ( A opressor with uber parts is still more uber than a Y-wing with uber parts )
But if starting out as a fresh pilot without a lot of cash for good RE and crafted parts, the Aliance pilot route is possibly the roughest! Fortunately it's eventually balanced out with the X-wing and a-wing, which are indeed fun ships to fly.
I like my ships big and heavy, so the Y-wing, TIE Bomber and B-Wing are my favorites.
And arguing about the parts is pointless, in the end it all comes down to the skill and style of the pilot.
And imperial pilot route is always the roughest, with RE'd parts or freshly starting.

Flying freelance, I flew all the ships which I found to be acceptable, but favored the dunelizard for the grind... the kryat is awsome!Rebel... what can I say? After the Z-95, which sucks compared to the other noob ships, then you get the Y-wingYou can argue its not a bad ship IF you have good crafted and RE'ed parts and the pre-nerf reward engine that ppl brag about - but never use because they don't want to decay it. I have tryed Y-Wing, but i think maybe the Tie Bomber is a bit harder..
But all ships is just about to learn how to fly them, then i think you would be a nice pilot with all ships

Got to be the funniest thing I've heard all week.
To get back on topic though, I've only been flying for a week now. When I started out I really wanted to get to those X-wings but after so much time in my Y-wing I've grown quite fond of it. Can't wait to try a loadout with some higher certification parts.
